Ben Franks has probably played his last game for the AB's. What do you think?

Judging by Hansen's reaction of disgust at his behaviour that led to him being sent from the field in a game that could have gone either way at the time, I reckon Ben has signed his early release papers especially with other good props waiting in the wings.

I think Hansen is trying to create a strong team culture and model the AB's on hard rugby men that dont get involved in all the off the ball shit. What Frank's did, although not that bad, probably will piss Hansen off even more simply because it is1 individual letting the team down.

On the same note, I was very impressed that the Boks rocked up to play rugby and not worry about off the ball crap. They just got on with it for a change and that was refreshing to see.

Fully agree on the Boks showing up to play usual tough man rugby but with little off-the-ball stuff. Good for the sp ort.

Yeah. It was über dumb of Franks.  It jeopardised the whole game for his mates.  Hansen needs to put an end to the off the ball shenanigans. The ABs have no control over what other teams do but they can certainly clean up their own act.  Nonu needs a stern warning too.

Yeah was a Dumbass Thing to do. Hansen was pissed. He'll be back but he won't do it again. Nz rugby doesn't usually instigate off play stupidity. A few exceptions. Few and far between. Agree Frank's was dumb.

the game being so close made ben franks stiff arm a stupid and potentially costly mistake.
that was very un All Black like and if a miracle had occured and the Boks had pulled of a victory, ben franks could be facing the firing squad like donald duck did after the hong kong test.

luckily for us the All Blacks are prob the only team in the world that can absorb pressure from any other team when being a man down and still attack and defend like a champion team but the All Blacks just do it better and even when a man down the expectation is they still deliver.

beasts shoulder tackle on McCaws head was way worse, but Bok fans facebook pages saw beast and probably every Bok from now on card proof when playing in SA.

dont know if its ben franks last game for the All Blacks, after woodcock, the only two loosehead props we have are ben and crockett, so ben franks will still be around IMO.

but maybe hansen should encourage ben taumafuina to start playing loosehead, he could be NZs very own version of connie oosthuizen.

i heard a rum our that ben afeaki played loosehead as well, if he did, throw him in there ASAP i say, cos IMO hes the 2nd best tighthead in the RC/4nats.

@cloudzter,

IMO its not looking too good for ol ged, hes struggled for starting berths in hawkes bay where ash dixon has been the incumbent hooker and rightly so too.
ged maybe a better player, but dixon whose the hurricanes 3rd pick hooker is in way better form.

i got a real bad feeling that if ged dosent get a spXV contract next year with a NZ franchise, he will be lost to either an overseas club japan/UK or he will go back to an aussie spXV club and try to get recruited as a foreign player within the ARU which will make him eligible for the wallabies.

hopefully the highlanders who look set to lose the services of hore can sign up ged next year.
also fingers crossed that hansen recognises the talent that ged is and picks him for the EOYT anyways, but that will be based largely on his spXV form for the last two years which has been red hot.

A few remarks from  this thread, so far:

1. I think Hansen is trying to create a strong team culture and model the AB's on hard rugby men that dont get involved in all the off the ball shit.

Yeah right. That has to be why he defended that low down dirty thug Nonu?

2. the game being so close made ben franks stiff arm a stupid and potentially costly mistake.

So, I suppose Franks is not a low down thug as well?

beasts shoulder tackle on a McCaw who didnt even have the ball was way worse the nonus shoulder tackle.

wanna know why u hear fudge all from it???? cos whinging ur ass off is SA national hobby.

and why would u assume that franks is not considered a thug for a comment saying this???

Now hang on for a minute. I am talking about Nonu as a serial offender here. One who is defended by your coach, compared to Bismarck du Plessis who was being portrayed as a dirty low down thug for because of his legal tackle on Carter. I am on record here as being one of the few Saffers who agreed that Bismarck's stunt on Messam was illegal. The kiwi outrage, however, was more about his tackle on Carter. I am just trying to put things in perspective and my post was a bit of TIC, TBH.

What I was trying to say, with the Franks remarks, was that if the tackle of Bismarck made him a thug, then maybe Franks should be painted with the same brush. Instead, Franks' stiff arm is merely called stupid, and potentially costly [for the All Blacks].

@ceradyne,

each to their own, but i sadi many many times on the million different poite related threads that bizzys first yellow card was BS and the hit on carter was just a solid on the money hit.

i dont buy what hansen said in defence of nonu either, the excuse was he had a stinger in his shoulder and thats why he dropped the uninjured shoulder on slipper is a little hard to swallow considering as u said, nonus a serial offender.

and if u look back at my comments on bizzy, i never called him a thug for his elbow on messams throat, cos IMO it was more reckless then it was intentional, but the seriousness of the elbow to a throat cant be ignored and why theres a lot of merit about about it being a red card offence.

but for the record, ben franks is a thug, his actions could have had some serious consequences for the All Blacks.

and while speaking on that incident if u were to watch that incident again at normal speed, u will see that while intentional, there was no real intent to injure with his swinging arm. it was on the same level as a shove to the head. if ben franks had put some real force behind that swinging arm, connie would have been hurt period instead of just bein annoyed like he was.

@Sasu, I think we are more or less on the same page on all accounts. We both agree that there was noting malicious about Bismarck's tackle on Carter. We both agree that Hansen's defence of Nonu is not on. We also both agree that Franks' act was stupid. My mistake, probably, was not formulating my post quite correctly. I was more referring to the incident then to you making the remark of it being stupid. My remark was not aimed at you in particular, but more to your countrymen after the previous test. You were just the messenger, mentioning the incident, in this case.

Beast on McCaw was a penalty and nothing more. McCaw was stationery and beast cleaned him out in my opinion and not tackled him. It was reviewed and deemed to be nothing more than a penalty by coming in from side by all parties and very rightly so.

Nonu jumped up off his feet and propelled his shoulder into Jean's upper body/neck. Way worse than Bismarck's elbow into Messam's shoulder that saw an Oscar performance. That should have been a straight red card. There is no way a player can accidentally do what Nonu did. Sometimes a combination of players ducking and defenders slipping up creates a high tackle. What Nonu did was straight up professional foul and red card.

Nonu and Beast were both reckless and dangerous. The players they hit weren't aware it was coming so they could not brace themselves for the impact. Not yellow carding Beast was odd but something i wasn't to fussed about. He's not the type of player that usually offends in that manner(he's usually a clean player ), but Nonu on the other hand has a bad reputation for illegal tackles(Skinstad refers to as coconut tackles) and surely must spend sometime out of the game if he is to reoffend in the future.

Not buying what exactly? Are we not allowed to talk about any test we want? These incidents are recent and happened during this years RC competition. I realise Beast infringement is the most recent and did warrant a yellow card, and what i was trying to say is that one hit wasn't worse then other, as some have suggested. But if anything could be debated as to who's hit was worse, you'd have to look at the position of the tackled player and ask who was in a more vulnerable position? In mind McCaw was in the more vulnerable position with out a doubt. End of the day both hits were ugly.

What crap is this?? Beasts hit on McCaw was nothing but a penalty for coming in from the side. He would have been well within his rights had he entered through the gate. It was not a tackle. It was a clean out.

The ref reviewed it on the field and was happy with what he had seen. To say the Beast got away with one is saying the ref is cheating as it was not like it was done behind the refs back. The ref saw it live, then reviewed it and was happy that it was just a penalty for coming in from the side. That is the correct call.

Rugby is becoming a fuck up now. People just want to see cards for any thing remotely tough these days. Bismarck's tackle, Beasts clean out and so forth. This is a contact sport. No wonder we are seeing teams score up to 20 points per match just on penalties. Its bull shit.

What did deserve a second look was Kirchener taken out in the air. Now I know you will all say but Habana did that to Dagg. Very different. Habana ran to the ball and him and Dagg just clipped legs. I think it was Ben Smith (not sure) that took Kirchener out and he had run past the ball so he was not actually contesting possession. Not saying it was a card but it was dangerous and deserved a review because there is a difference between hard and no too dangerous and just plain reckless! That boardered on the latter.

We should be watching big men thumping each other all game. Cards should be reserved for only reckless, potentially serious acts of foul play. Head high tackles, taking players feet in the air, punches or professional fouls and shit like that. Not cleaning guys out too hard, legal but hard tackles and that sort of stuff. Soon enough players are going to be too scared to shit!

This is rugby afterall. Cards need to be kept out of it. Penalties are there for a reason! The way things are going, teams are playing just for penalties because 5 or 6 of those can easily win you a game. Its taking away from running rugby and becoming too technical!

Mate McCaw was on his knees when Beast leaps into him with a shoulder to the face. Thats a yellow card offence. I don't want to see yellow cards or any cards for that matter but what he did was a cardable offence. Never once accused the ref of cheating, thats not  my thing, but just because the ref chose not to card him does not make it the right decison. I mean Poite saw Bismarcks tackle live and then on the big screen, does that make his decision the correct call? No, Poite was wrong and so was Owens. A clean out requires a player to use his arms just like a tackle situation, and Beast did not do this and his entry was incorrect. Even he was worried that Owens was going to send him because he knew what he did warranted time in the bin.

Hell. I was expecting carnage, swinging arms, head butts. But both sides were actually restrained. A few minor things. But both teams knew that it could effect the outcome and used there Intelligence. Sin bins are bad, penalties are costly. So keep to the rules and play smart. McCaw wasn't to fazed about it. No big deal he said come right in a few days.

You guys realize that everyone already knows the boks arent adverse to getting dirty when they think they can get away with it ? Denial isnt just an Egyptian river ,its something bpk fans practice all the time to where they are the gold standard ,but you havent fooled anyone you know .Why do you think the boks have that rep ? is it just the whole wide world being all mean out of jealousy ? { not ABS fans I can tell you right now } We wont think any less of you guys if you fess up ,quite the contrary .Now watch someone write ' what about you guys " or "so and so is far worse " or " It wasnt anything much,it wasnt that bad, there was no intent " or that perennial favourite "but the ABS/Richie was cheating/deserved it....blah blah"

spot on warhammer.

apparently running ur shoulder into someones jaw whose not doing anything is a penalty, but not using arms in a tackle on a ball carrier is a yellow card offense.

myabe theres some merit to the Bok fans (vast majority but not all) bitching and whinging like a two year old throwing a tantrum about unfair referee calls, cos beast not getting a yellow card was clearly a byproduct of refs being too intimated  to penalise the Boks.
tony johnson made the comment that owens would have been hung drawn and quartered if he was to send of beast.

i might have to do a full autopsy on owens performance on the game, cos off hand i can recall 5 incidents that was incorrectly ruled on by owens.

the most important thing is, despite the All blacks getting two yellow cards, the boys just got on with the job. this may sound easy, but its not, cos when things dont go ur way, u need to be a champion team to make sure it does.
All blacks are a champion team, and the Boks who have always had the potential still have their training wheels on.

Wardad, you reckon you boys are "great" at owning or fessing up to your thuggery. Ok then, hows Nonu's "bung" shoulder going?? If that was not an excuse from Hansen for some thuggish play then I dont know!

What Nonu did was leave the ground, propelling himself forward to hit JDV somewhere above the chest with no arms when the man was at full speed. That deserved a ban especially because he is a serial offender. Massive history of it. Beast has almost no history of thug play.

What dont you okes understand. Nigel Owens thought there was more in it and it was fucken reviewed!! its not like he chose to overlook it. He was not scared at all to take control of that game! He did it well. Upon review, he didnt deem it a card offence. It was not an offence that should have seen the Boks down a man and potentially ruin the game. Messam and the AB's were warned repeatedly about breakdown infringements until Owens had nowhere to turn. Ben Franks stiff armed a player and it was a call from the assistant ref.

The fact Owens chose to review the Beast incident is proof that he did wana get the call right otherwise he may have said I have seen it, nothing more than a penalty.

That is why I say, if you are saying Owens got it wrong, you are accusing him of cheating. I see someone here wrote about Poite reviewing it and getting it wrong still. That is incorrect. Poite clearly said, "I have a decision on the tackle. I want to see what happened after that!"

He made up his mind purely based on crowd reaction and because Dan Carter was injured. He, unlike Owens, had fuck all control of that match and it was a circus that ultimately decided the Championship for 2013.

Has the Beast been cited?? I have not heard anything yet. If he has not been cited, are the citing commisioners cheating too? It was nothing more than a penalty for a ruck entry from the side. Owens got it right. Nothing dangerous in that. If there were, we must do away with contact in rugby and play tag rather. Rip a cloth out the guys pants and thats a tackle!

Beast's shoulder charge into Richie's face was a yellow if ever I saw one!I just knew that the TMO would be too gutless to recommend it given what happened in Auckland.....definite home advantage and as I said last week, the Boks are involved in so much foul play these days, they get away with a lot of it lest the judiciary are being seen to be picking on the poor wee boys!Cloudy, it doesn't matter whether Beast has a good record or not, if you do the crime........etc!

Mate no one accused him of cheating. He got the decison wrong, why i don't know? It was clear and obvious that the shoulder smashed into Richies Jaw and snapped his head back. Obviously you will never agree that what he did was a yellow card offence, but had the shoe been on the other foot and it was one of your boys being hit, im sure your opinion would be different. And yes the decision to card Franks came from the assistant referee, but what Franks did was no worse then what Beast did.

@siones uncles BFF,

a shoulder tackle to a player sitting down that was reviewed, could that be the first time a ref ever got it wrong???

oh wait a minute there was poite and the bizzy incident wasnt there as the Bok fans reminded us over and over and over and over and over again.

the reality is the Bok fans (and again not all but the vast majority) behaved like petulant children starting their crybaby facebook pages and what have u, and it was clear that owens wasnt going to risk giving any cards to the Boks.

a round of applause for u and those tantrum throwing Bok fans, u gave the Boks a nice little edge in that department.

TBH im glad the Boks didnt get any cards, cos it squashes the retarded notion that many here were spreading (albeit ambiguously) that the Boks would have won in eden park.
if the Boks couldnt beat the All Blacks in ellis park, with a one man advantage for a quarter of the game, i can not for the life of me see how anyone can think the Boks could beat the All Blacks in eden park, a venue where the All blacks have never lost in the professional era, a venue where the Boks last won in 1937, in a country where the Boks have won only three times in the professional era.

to me beast should have been yellowed, and im not surprised one bit to see saffas not up in arms about it, cos hes a Bok and a saffa being objective with a Bok players is in the minority of a single digit.

Any cheap shot like the one seen on McCaw gives any Springbok automatic folk hero status.

Speaking of folk hero status was hilariious to see Bismark get subbed on Saturday after being found out to be a dud after all.

The referee should be applauded though for giving SA every opportunity to win.

Yellow carding two of our players showed NZ will go down as the greatest rugby team ever for years to come. Despite SA having home ground advantage and with that big forward pack that was going to pummel us,we overcame all they had with a rock solid defence and kicked their arses with only 14 men.

Where's the citing then? If the ref got it wrong, where is the citing? Answer me that guys. Ref got it 100% right. Penalty and nothing more.

Black Adder you dont post often and I can see why. Dumb as fuck. Bismarck is the best hooker in the world bu some distance and you call him a dud. Sasuke is also proving to be a bit "rugby stupid" now because this was not a game for the forwards. It was a running game. In a way, we did not see the forwards dominate the test match like we usually do when AB's meet Boks. This was more an Aussie v NZL style game that is usually a better spectacle than a hard fought, big collisions game that is a Bok v AB test.

It was not a great day to be a forward and thats why Bizzy was taken out of the game a bit and could not reproduce his form of Eden Park where conditions were a little wet and game was tighter. Ball was been tossed side to side and end to end. How do you expect a hooker to be at every breakdown.

I have no doubt if SA played the way they usually do, we would have come out with a tight win but not the 4 tries. Hats off to them though as they chased the cup and not just a win. We could have kept the game tight and smashed your forwards all day long, whilst making them play to our tempo until they could not take anymore smashing at altitude. What ended up happening was we tried to play NZL at their own game and we ran out of steam. We did not select a forward pack for the mobile game and that was a big mistake. Far too much beef to carry around for 80 mins at high tempo. It is not a tempo we are used to playing for 80 mins and that showed. NZL are a lot more versed at 80 mins of running rugby and that showed too.

Had we just needed a win, I am certain our normal suffocating game plan would have brought us a result because NZL backs were not that great. I saw nothing from Nonu and Smith or even Cruden. Your tries came off shit defence and missed 1 on 1 tackles. All part and parcel of playing a looser more expansive game. Our boys have not had enough practice at that and it showed. We usually have rock solid defence. It doesn't just suddenly change for no reason! Had we stuck to our normal structures, we might not have missed so many tackles and result would have been different. No doubt.

I will give you a clue, dont waste your time looking within NZL. You wont find it there.

You name one hooker that has as much positive influence on a game than Bizzy. He makes tackles, steals balls, hardly loses a lineout, makes big carries and inspires those around him. Who you got? Dane Coles?? Give us a fucken break you knob!

but maybe we should drop it, end if the day, McCaws tougher then every Springbok player ever combined, and despite owens being to intimidated to call the game straight, All Blacks won and showed why they have been the ranked No1 rugby team over 4 times longer then all other nations combined.

Rougerie's EYE GOUGE and HEADBUTT, Thorn's SPEAR TACKLE, Nonu's NO ARMS SHOULDER TACKLE, Waugh's SWINGING FOREARM

Beast's clean out of McCaw?? Can you see the difference Sasuke Itchyballe. I dont suppose you can because you the same man who finds it hard to believe that the fat and useless Sione Lauaki has family members in Auckland.

How much more proof do you want. You know I got proof for you. Do you want me to get hold of Nigel Owens number for you so you can call him and get some clarity on that decision too??

No you wont because you are a talker and thats about it.

You should get out more to Sas. I mean, if meeting "celebrities" like Sione's family member seem unreal to you, you have lived a very sheltered life. You know I also stood next to Sir John Kirwan on the train heading to Eden park for the test match. Had a long chat with the man! New found respect for him!

@siones uncles BIFF,

ahhhhh i feel u r rage, i bathe in ur rage and it feels soooo good,

but dont get too worked up just because nobody believes u and ur made up scenario where the word of mouth of an uncle of sione laukai said the All blacks were on abnned substances.
its not my fault not a single person kiwi or saffa believes u, so deal with it ok siones unlces BIFF ( BTW, BIFF = best imaginary friend forever).

beast dropped a shoulder on McCaws jaw, and even if beast is cleaning out its still illegal to drop a shoulder anywhere in the head region, even in a ruck situation, but thats getting a bit too technical now for u so i will try to keep it simple in the future, ok siones uncles BIFF,

like i said, Bok fans only get angry when incorrect calls go against them, but as siones unlces BIFF has proven, they will fight tooth and nail to defend any dirty illegal moves their boys make.

but its all moot really, when things dont go ur way, u can do the Bok fan thing and throw a tantrum and start facebook pages and bore everyone to death with endless posts on poite, or u can do the kiwi thing and trust in the boys to get the job dione regardless which makes it all the more sweeter.

thank u mighty mighty All Blacks for making siones unlces BIFF look so stupid, and no hes not wearing a Bok jersey, hes just green with envy,

Sasuke, where did I ever say "The All Blacks are on illegal substances?" I clearly said Saia told me that Sione was in bad shape due to shit he was taking in his playing days. Performance enhancers..What does performance enhancers mean to you?? Clearly steroids.

You dont have to believe me but I gave you the info you needed on a platter. What you chose to do with it is up to you but who is really the dumb one? You bang on about it but have you made that call? I made it really simple for you but seems its still too complex for a talker like you. I am sure you will get the same info I did. Ask him to see some pics of the fat slob too.

If you tell me you have a pot of gold buried and I say you are out of your mind then you give me directions to it but I fail to check and just carry on like an idiot about how you are talking shit and so on, who is really the idiot?

Reading some of the healt news surrounding him on the net, is Saia really wrong and would Sione have been the only guy in the squad "dabbling" in some performance enhancing shit? I think not!

Do your research Sasuke. I dare you or shut the fuck up.

I love all your posts and talk about the All Blacks like they are some sort of reflection of your character. At the end of the day, its nothing more than a rugby game that will take place again next year and years after we are gone. You think you are "above" others on here because the All Blacks are winners! Are you a winner Sas? Are you an All Black?

You should concentrate on being a winner in your own life. Rugby is not going to help you any buddy!

You love to bang on about Bok supporters and excuses. Do you realise it was NZL that "invented" rugby excuses. Cant lose a game without being sick. England last year you guys were absolutely fucked up (SA won by the way) but you were all miraculously sick the week leading up. Just like 95' WC final. You are knocked out of the 07' WC and Wayne Barnes gets the blame when 4 years on, the French just proved they are the better team in WC finals. The shoe was on the other foot this time and the ref did everything he can to ensure the French didn't blitz you guys again but I dont hear you complaining about the refs performance then when it benefits you. Double standards?? Rugby in NZL is fast becoming a joke. Teams must come to NZL knowing that they are not going to get a fair game. Never gona happen!
