I hope there is nobody on here that has family or property in this area.

Knysna town is alight, not just the outskirts, the town itself.... total devastation.

People are wandering the streets in town with backpacks on, they have lost everything.

Flames last night reached 60 - 70 meters in height due to these gale force winds.

The pictures and videos coming out in the media show horrific destruction, the worst I have ever seen, for any bush fire in SA.

Cape Town was bad enough with their storm, but Knysna, Segfield, Plett, Brenton and all other surrounding areas are being threatened now with complete destruction, no exaggeration....

Strange...just as I read about the severe storms lashing Cape Town, here in Sydney after a dry spell suffered, although not as bad, lightning strikes and torrential rain at the same time....

So sad, that's such a magical area......lovely, soft climate, great scenery. I surfed up and down that coast, fished for leervis in the estuaries. And Knysna itself is the epitome of a seaside town. My best wishes to those good people.

As of this morning, almost 200 homes and businesses in Knysna have now been destroyed.

Up to 10 000 people displaced

One fire fighter died last night from 70% burns

Great gesture by Kululu to fly out 100 volunteers from JHB for free, to assist with the fire control

Great gesture by FNB to donate R100 000 immediately to the rescue fund, and R10 million to the overall clean up and assist campaign

I have just looked at the latest pictures, the lovely Pezula estate looks heavily affected.
