Despite how good Kolbe was at creating opportunities I was a little disappointed in his lack of pace in being able to finish off his creativity. I was of the impression he was quicker than he is. Also why did he not use his great side step to beat those last defenders. Once he had created the opportunities I really thought he would score through sheer pace after all the hard work had been done in creating the opportunities. Is it just me who noticed this?

He is not as fast as he was in 7's, he has bulked up allot for 15's.  He is only 5.7 foot or something

Yet much too fast for his own team. So much.

This guy, and others, does not belong to SA rugby template, that sort of ploughshare plowing one centimetre after centimetre, forward and never backwards, that relies on heavy, unmutable structures, that has grown obsessed by territory occupation.


This guy's flashes of brilliance split his team in two, him and the rest. Other SA players are afraid of him, they run headlessly all over the field as soon he dashes forward.

He does not fit in. His moves put his teammates in disarray, they do not have the mental constructions to relate in time and space with that type of players.


The issue is not that this guy is not fast enough, the issue is that he is cornered in a team that fails times after times to capitalize on his numerous breaks. Many other teams would have built momentum from them but not SA rugby, heavy stompings, rigid branches, forward slow speed.


This guy is a waste of talent, he should have been appropriated by one of the teams in the north, where he would shine.

Fast over the first 30 metres mostly does it in rugby. Kolbe is more of a 60m man, than a 100m.

He was the sole reason why we almost got back in the match. Great player from my current home town...and clearly the biggest heart on display on Saturday. Proud to support him.

There is nothing wrong with his step and he doesn't need the pace of Habana to be effective.

Dave is seeing things again. Probably too much mentholated spirits again.

Kolbe is a wonderful little player and should have been made a Bok 5 ages ago. 

He is the only player in the Bok backline that oozes class.

You are missing my point - I’m not questioning his ability I’m just commenting on the fact that I thought he was quicker than he is

Small guys often look faster than they are. Great acceleration but top speed not as good as one thinks. So yes good over shorter distances.Breton Paulse was the same.

Look at the size of the guys running 100 meters in the Olympics. None are Cheslins size.

Kolbe is a game changer...our most valuable back ATM. Fantastic t see him go. Heart of a lion...or should that be honey badger? Acceleration and stepping is more important than pace.

His double inside and outside step might have been a bit better, and it gave Moounga a bit of an advantage as he was able to lean of his outside foot instead of the inside. In a flat out run, I am sure Kolbe would beat Moounga.  It was fantastic defence by Moounga, as he read exactly what Kolble was going to do. Only a top international standard player would have had any chance of stopping Kolbe in that situation.

Kolbe has enough pace and great skills and huge heart. What he needs is somebody to stay with him. A guy who might be able to do this is Jantjes who follows the ball brilliantly and has a gi ft for being in the right place when a try is on.
