Kolisi.Carr......Notshe the small loosie syndrome.

Nothing contributed more to the Stormers loss than the small loosies we had to pick because of injuries to Elstadt and Wiese. A week ago Kolisi was being talked of as a Bok captain. This week reality has set in....he is a very marginal test candidate. And Notshe who might be a decent sevens player was all but invisible against the Lions pack. . The question is not whether you need a power loosie, but whether you need only one. Ireland with Heaslip and Stampkar, for example, played two power loosies....as did the Poms with Vunipola and Itoje. My own sense is this is the way forward. If we have a very talented highly mobile loosie like Big Joe, I can see him making a case. If not you go for two power loosies and somebody who can fetch....ie, not just be called a fetcher, like Kriel, but actually make turnovers.

 
And your 2 power loosies would be?

Please don't tell me it's Aberts and Louw!!

At least we agree that Kolisi is not Bok material.


 

Louw would be a candidate based on his NH form....who else do we have that can really effect the breakdown?. Alberts was done a year or so ago.

 I don't think having a small loosie is too much of a problem as long as you surrond him by some power loosies. If we complete wrote off the smaller guys we'd be losing some good talent

 
Louw is 32 years old.

He is also a blindside flank.

He is inconsistent at 6. He forgets his role at times and goes awol for lengthy periods of the match.

Move on, Mozart.

Kriel would destroy him in a one on one contest. He's younger, stronger, quicker and hungrier than old man Louw.

It really is time we move on from yester year and embrace the current talent we have.


 

 As I noted months ago the Stormers pack has 4 relatively small players in the pack. Hooker and three loosies. That loses them a lot of clout
Elstadt was key and then Wiese seemed to be stepping up nicely but unfortunately was not able to play against the Lions.
I think the claims of Lions forward domination were exagerated. Poor wee cc just about wet himself when the Lions won a scrum.  Hahahahahahahaha

I wouldn't call Heaslip a "power loosie",... he's more powerful than Whiteley but like this last he's more a linking nº8,.... England played not only with Itoje and Vunipola/Hughes but also with Haskell/Robshaw at openside which means playing with 3 power loosies,... but england has always played like this, or almost always

IMO Whiteley is the only current SA nº8 up to test level,... yeah, he's not the power loosie the boks like to play but,... having PSdT at blindside (and one of the du Preez as back up) with Etzebeth-Snyman as locks wouold give the boks more than enough power,... I would also play with Coetzee (if he's fit and inform) at openside, gets more involved than Kriel at breakdowns and gives also an extra power,... Kriel from the bench as an impact player

Fair comment, but unlike Itoje Stephanie has looked clumsy on the flank. Mostert is a better candidate for the lock at loosie role. Whiteley is an admirable player, but I just can't see him being a factor in the really crucial tests.
