Kolisi is the Player’s Player of the Year
The Boks played a more expansive game at the start of the season which suited Kolisi. He could be fantastic with better coaching.
Making Duane Vermeulen captain instead of Kolisi was pretty bizarre, as will next year with the Stormers having Kolisi as captain, and then Eztebeth.
Well done to the lad...a player that plays his heart out and his all and very effectively too....he is certainly NOT a quota selection...Congratulations Siya.!
PS He was a guy that was spotted by Saffex in the early days
So how good was Kolisi against the wee abs? There was talk at the time he should be dropped. some "memor ies" are short it seems.
As for Saffex having praised all and sundry as potential test stars (Who didn't he select hahahahaha) he had to at some time get it right. To me I want to see Kolisi shaping against sides li ke Ireland England and Nz. Frankly I still have some doubt. What is certain is that he had a better year
If we play Kolisi, the other 2 loosies should be bruisers.
I must agree with Beeno1. Siya Kolisi only impressed against the weaker French and Argentinian sides. He was no-where to be seen against the Irish or the All Blacks.
Makes one wonder how he landed the "Players Player of the Year" award when we had titans like Malcom Marx impressing all season long.
I smell a rat.
DbDraad - why not rather select a proper back row? Why do we always have to select around the obvious BEE selection?
I dont remember much good from him. The only Bok to stand out for me was Marx.
Reason being is that there wasn't much good from him against the better quality of player. He was told to shut up and sit in the corner against the All Blacks, as well as the Irish, and he did as he was told. Totally ineffective.
He had a few good runs against the pathetic French, but tell me which second rate club player would not have been able to exploit the many holes left open by the French? Even the useless Jesse Kriel was made to look good and that's saying something.
It looks like his award is much in the same line as Alister Coetzee's appointment as Springbok coach. A colour thing.
There are many horrible rumours going around that Kolisi will take over the Springbok captaincy, so why not pave the way for him by giving him an undeserved award.
As I said earlier, transformation is here to stay.
Kolisi had a very good year, proved beyond doubt his test credentials. Also looks our best bet as a leader, but how do you leave Jaco Kriel out?
With Marcel Coetzee the obvious merit choice at 8 but under an injury cloud, it might be worth having a look at Kolisi at 8, with one of the du Preez twins at 7
For me it would be:
6. Kriel / Kolisi
7. JL du Preez / D du Preez
8. Marcel Coetzee
Kolisi a leader? Am I in a parallel dimension? Yikes!
