Top English scribe urges Rassie to bench Kolisi

Former England flyhalf and renowned commentator Stuart Barnes says the Springboks should bench their inspirational captain Siya Kolisi for Saturday's Rugby World Cup final in Yokohama.

Via a column for The Times, Barnes called on Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus to include Francois Louw in the starting team for the final against England.

Louw replaced Kolisi in the 69th minute of last weekend's 19-16 semi-final win over Wales and proved influential when he won a vital penalty on the ground in the 74th minute.

This would be my call as well, but I guess this is just wishful thinking and politics will decide otherwise.

When the Boks dominate the breakdown, they will win any game. Kolisi is a good player, but he is not a classic fetcher like Francious Louw.

Kolisi is better with ball in hand and defensively. The fetching is done by Vermeulen and Marx

Kolisi is a low volume player, and doesn't bring any leadership ability to the table. He is a big back masquerading as a forward. He carries better around midfield or around the seams. That is, however, very occasionally. At the breakdown, he is a liability. He makes some good tackles or, more commonly, supporting tackles, especially for our more vulnerable backline players, such as Damian. He should be dropped, but that would permanently destroy Rassie's career in South Africa, probably affecting the status those associated with him, such as family too.

Dave you can stick with Kolisi as much as you wish, but he should never ever be in the starting XV. Off the bench for the last 5 minutes of the second half only if the Boks are well ahead.

He cannot even retain his place in the Stormers  team as a regular starter or bench player. So what makes him first choice and what skills does he bring to the team with respect to motivating, game plan or changes as play develops and encourages an all out effort when the chips are down.

When the Springboks played the Japanese in the quarters Wayne V was the guy coaching, motivating and coming up with ideas to lead.

Forget your Eastern Cape allegiance to him and think about winning.

Rassie should drop le Roux bring in Gelante to meet the color quota requirement as stipulated by the ANC and start Louw with Kwagga as sub.

You at one stage supported both Elton Jantjies and Puke Watson as great players in Springbok colors and they both faded badly as Springboks.

Now please when you reply be objective and not demeaning.

Thanks.

Don't shoot the bog ordinary Kolisi.....he didn't make himself captain. Pretty pathetic though that we all know he's going to come off sometime during the game to make way for Louw. Transformation would have played its role, the politicians would be happy, it doesn't matter that the Boks only played with 14 players.......they got to the final, if they lose ...well sad to bad, happy days, they'd achieved their main objective and that was Transformation and the added bonus of getting to the final.........mission accomplished.

We need Louw at the death....he played a crucial role in the last 10 minutes all year. Leave the team as it is. Don't mess with it now.

AJH stop speaking shit, Kolisi when fit always starts for the Stormers Only a bunch of ignorant twits see no value in Kolisi the same fools who see no value in de Allende, Lood, PSDT etc. When we do play an attacking game Kolisi is our go to forward with ball in hand. He has made more breaks and beaten more defenders than any other Bok forward under Rassie. He has that ability to bust tackles like de Allende does. We can also rely on him putting in some big hits thrown in with his usual defensive work. Kolisi is a class act is far better than Louw. The only aspect Louw has over Kolisi is his ability to turn the odd ball over, a task left the Vermeulen and Marx (when he started and should still be starting) Pakie you dumb fuck playing Barrett was a good call it’s no different to us playing PSDT at 7, but even more so as Barrett is more athletic. Are you stupid enough to define Barrett as a failure at flank after one test. He was hardly poor there and certainly not the reason the AB’s lost What a stupid comment by you - wake the fuck up

The English backs are the big threat so Kolisi starting makes sense. The Poms will definitely run the backs a lot.

Dave is very pro LGBT and anti Folau. Criticised these pervs and he starts frothing at the mouth.

I hope saffex doesn't support trans men in woman's sports and pervs going after the children?

I hope you're right about Kolisi as it stands I struggle with sharing your faith.

Poor Dave froths very readily these days......not the bloke I used to know.

Sure we've had our differences but still...

Just saying.

Just think, if the Boks do win, we'll be hearing for decades about the black captain who singlehandedly won the World Cup. The man who was an inspiration to mankind and healed the world. There will be a movie about him. Sickening enough to dread the Boks winning! He'll be lauded as the greatest ever Bok captain.
