Injury has officially ruled Jesse Kriel out of the second Test against France taking place in Durban on Saturday.

Springbok team doctor, Dr Konrad von Hagen, confirmed on Monday that Jesse Kriel will not be available for selection due to concussion and that he will continue with his gradual return to play protocol after taking a blow to the head in the second-half at Loftus on Saturday.

“It is important to note that we practise extreme caution with head injuries and there are definite protocols in place for on-field and off-field diagnosis and subsequent management,” explained Von Hagen.

Damian de Allende also returned to Cape Town to continue with his injury rehabilitation. His place in the squad is taken by Cheetahs centre, Francois Venter.

There was some good news for the Springboks on the injury front, however.

Lionel Mapoe has completed the final phase of his rehabilitation for his hamstring strain and resumed with full training on Monday.

Von Hagen confirmed that the he rest of the Bok squad were all in good shape and in the frame for selection for Saturday.

He will not be bringing Vorster in as a replacement.

I presume it'll be Mapoe.

What does this fool have against RJVR and Vorster? Their skin colour?

Kriel just can't tackle, nor can his brother, nor can Allende for that matter. Tackling just isn't in the DNA of some chaps....I always loved it, even though I did a Kriel once. They found me concussed sitting in the change room an hour after the game staring at the wall. Louis Babrow sewed up my chin on another occasion. And another time I dislocated a shoulder. If you are going to tackle with commitment you can't be too bothered about the consequences. Kriel and Allende aren't committed.

Dan Kriel misses tackle bags, he is beyond hopeless at tackling.
Tackling front on is about timing. Getting close enough to put your arms around the person, and making sure your use the momentum of running to "try" knock the opponent backwards, while making sure your own head is to the side.

Most of these players with terrible defence just completely miss opponents. Sometimes not even one arm goes around the person. The revolving Delande seems to let players walk through him.

Most of it comes down to footwork and punching your arms out to get that hit. So many players go into the tackle reaching or over extending with their head down.
Simple basics although I was never taught to tackle properly. Our coaching was just go low on the big fellas. If you watch some NZ tackle technique clips you can see the massive difference between what we were coached at junior levels and their coaching. Superior in every way.

Moz, some might say that concussion is still with you but I will not comment on such statements

Some of you should apply for the bok defensive coaching position.

PS. I'm looking forward to seeing that slim bloke F. Steyn take to the field.

True Xavi, footwork is required to get close quickly and make the step to have the opponent within arm's length before committing to the tackle, and timing the hit.

You guys speak as though our boys know the value and purpose of a shoulder.

Kriel goes high ... a head hunter ... grasping at collars with his hands ... completely clueless. He has no idea what a shoulder's for nor does he know which side to place his head on ... as is evident.

He doesn't even have the simple basics of the tackle down pat ... and yet ... he's a Goat ... defending the toughest channel there is.

It's all a matter of timing your hit ... transfering your weight through the tackle ... aiming for at least 2m behind the target ... following through like one does with a punch ... or a golf shot ... or when you play tennis.

The technique isn't complicated at all ... simple basics he should have learnt as a kid in primary school.

Hard to believe we have so many top ranking players who still don't have this down.

Dude!! It's the lack of quality coaching at junior levels though. Less so now than 15-20 years ago but evident enough in todays 'stars'.
