Lambie starts off at fullback playing very nicely. He takes one ball splendidly on the deck. And makes the open field tackle on Jonathan Davies.

Morne  off  minute 18... Lambie to flyhalf.

19.00 misses his first tackle at flyhalf on Falitau.

31.40  25 metre up the line penalty

33.00  Wales fly kick. Habana recovers ....Lambie rucks...easily lifted by Welsh 12, penalty to Wales.

34.00 several phases without Lambie in the line.

34.30 Warburton runs right over Lambie

38.00 North runs round Lambie but is impeded...Lambie tackles him.

39.00 du Preez avoids Lambie who is 15 metres deep. Passes to him on the next phase....up and under which is way too short....Wales off with several phases Bismarck steal.

So that's the whole game, accurately reported. So what do we conclude?
My main conclusion is Lambie looks far more settled at 15. He fields the ball well, is in good position and tackles well from the front  in space.
At flyhalf he seems loath to take the initiative. Willie and F du Preez made all the dynamic plays. Lambie was left to routine passing and kicking...especially after he was turned on his only run. And his kicking is not impressive...his range is less than Morne on line kicks...his drops and penalties were also weak. His tactical kicks were a mixed bag...one good one and several which yielded dangerous possession to Wales.

But mostly one is struck by how far he is behind the advantage line. I think Pat is a nice player and a good back up to Willie as a defensive fullback. But it seems unlikely he will be the attacking flyhalf we are looking for....more of a Morne clone, without the boot. He needs to play 15... He has never proven himself at flyhalf, but had several solid tests at 15

He has never impressed me at flyhalf either. I haven't seen him play this year, though I understand he got some good game time with the Sharks at 10 before getting injured. Not sure if that helped him settle and find some rhythm. But based on previous evidence, I just don't see what sparked the hype around him as a flyhalf, which has been going non-stop since 2010/2011 now?

Mozart
Your accuracy is as per normal BS and cannot be believed.   Have a look at Morne Steyn's stats and see what accuracy there was and how the backline lost shape af ter his departure:-
Steyn0/072/2/0000003/10/000/0
Steyn did bugger all when he was on the field of play.   He got the ball 4 times - kicked twice and passed twice and he made 3 tackles and missed 1.   So what shape was lost?
Lambie's stats at least show that he tried something  both in passing and running with the ball:-
Lambie0/026/5/51700014/10/010/0
We all know that you lie through your teeth when it comes to players and thatyou are so prjudiced that nobody can trust your version of what happened during games - so another piece of BS spread in this case.
You want defenceless attackless Francois Steyn at flyhalf on Saturday so have a look at this stats of last Saturday and come up with an explanation for his serious deficiencies:-
Steyn0/0169/7/62601114/50/000/0   Also have a look at the two misplaced kicks he made that led to tries for the Highlanders and to his dream tackle stats (dream for the Highlanders team) - as well as to the possession handover.
Your ideas about rugby equates to the same as a five year old boy's knowledge of the game - so keep on living and lying  as you please.

One only needs to read Mozcroscope to know that its going to be the usual biased bullshit against a player Moffie dislikes.......the real issue here is that Moffie is smarting at the prospect that Frans is going to be replaced by Lambie this weekend, because quite frankly Frans is not a flyhalf.

Mozart the problem is that Lambie is really average. He looks more comfortable at 15 but is at best 6th best in the position. Nowhere does he really shine. It's all regulation stuff - Lambie catches a pass, runs forward, joins a ruck, kicks for touch, pawn to B4. Just plain old ordinary stuff, like Wynand Olivier in far too many ways. But his fans have been vicious for many years now because he is the air apparent to Morne. That's all it is. But it's year five of his test career and we still don't know what he is really good at, that says it all really. He just isn't good enough, end of damn story. He never was and never will be. He is the Adi Jacobs of 10 or 15 but without the heart. Adi was always battered on defence but always put his body on the line, he was a terrible Bok but at least he played with the spirit of one. Lambie looks bored and languid, can't make decisions, can't tackle, can't pass, his running lines are pathetic (I call them running squig gles more than lines) and hasn't improved in any area of his game for five years!

@Saffex: Jake isn't moving Frans to 12 because Lambie is so good, he is playing Labie at 10 because having Lambie at 10 is less detrimental than Jordaan at 12. Simply put, Frans is the best player at 10 and 12 and he is juglling him in each game to cover up for the flaws in the other players. The ideal solution would be to clone Frans and drop Lambie and Jordaan altogether.

 Gonzo
I m sorry to disagree with you in the case of Frans Steyn - he has constantly flopped at 10 and  12 this year.   He is the only 12 in Super 15 that never scored a try and in 17 matches made two line breaks - beating minimal defenders.  He is also the worst defender in the 10 and 12 position in all Super 15 teams.  The above can all be statistically proven.  Fransie's only asset this year was his improved goal kicking.
To compare him with Jordaan at 12 is a real joke. Jordaan made as many line breaks in one game than Fransie did all season long.  He has the best defensive record of all centers in Super 15.  You only have to go back to the game on Saturday and see how many missed tackles of Steyn Jordaan had to make.
Problem is that Fransie's game is poor and playing outside of Fransie means that Jordaan rarely gets a usable ball to play with.  When he gets them he creates tries and he scores them himself as well.   Steyn's main problem is he has a tendency to hog balls at center - run straight at the first defender and crashball.   He passes less than 30% of all the balls he handled at flyhalf - and less than 20% at center and even then make skip passes that make defense very easy for defenders and eliminate potential overlaps by doing that.
In essence - Steyn is a very poor ball distributor and as such really causing malfunctioning of the Sharks backline.   He had that problem since returning from France and it was very noticeable in the tests he played in in 2012 at center.   Plumtree identified that as a problem last year and said Steyn should play at full back - he is not a center.   People screamed that Plumtree was wrong - but was he?
If there is one player to be dropped from the Sharks team that will improve the functioning of the backline it is Frans Steyn.  He has way too many negatives to be an acceptable center or flyhalf.

Last year I did an analysis of Morne and Lambie in the S15....Morne gained more metres per run, beat more defenders per run and made more clean breaks per run. To run from 10 you need at least one of....pace off the mark, a sidestep, deception or strength. Pat has none of these. Or you need to hit the ball on the right line at pace. Lambie seems to be able to do this at fullback....never at flyhalf.

The Welsh test is instructive and despite the moronic mumbling of Vetsak and the OOM, I tried to report it accurately. To me the most striking thing was how much  the team ignored Lambie. He was hovering soewhere between 15 and 10, while Willie was up in the line taking a lot of the flyhalf passes.

It strikes me if we want to convert a fullback to flyhalf Willie would be a much better candidate than Lambie.

 Gonzo
I gave you a breakdown of what Steyn produced this year and gave valid reasons for it as well.    Those reasons are full supported by the match statistics provided by ESPN. You can argue about match statistics for individual matches - but if the same tendencies are maintained throughout a series of 17 games - it indicates a tendency in performances of players.
Unfortunately the tendencies displayed by Steyn are all  indicative of substandard rugby and that does not do the team any favours.  Any other coach than White would not have put up with it - I do not know why White sticks with the guy through thick and thin.   Maybe it has to do with Steyn being one of his players in the 2007 WC,
However, to allow a player not to train with the squad two days a week to rest a suspect knee problem is probably part of the reason for the malfunctioning of the Sharks backline.

You will soon found out that Mozart's versions of play is so far-fetched  that is borders on hysteria - especially when he writes about players he favours and players he dislikes. He has his favourites in the Springbok team and nay player who threatened their positions are immediately denigrated by him.   So believe what you like  - but my advice is stay away fro the liar called Mozart

Gonzo it's nice to get a ....erm...new poster with such good judgement. The Board loves to believe in fantasies. There is the JJ fantasy, the Jan Serfontein fantasy, the Goosen fantasy, the Reinach fantasy, the Coenie fantasy. But the longest running fantasy is the Lambie fantasy.....after 5 years we are still trying to convert this fullback to flyhalf.
Fortunately I think the JJ fantasy series has been cancelled.

Periodically every now and then a lunatic appears on this forum...sort of drift wood and flotsam and jetsum from either past SS Kamp or  moles that are homeless...now at least they really look like moles...and now and then again an effing cuckoo that falls out of the nest and tries to fly over the rest...delusional creatures that really have no purpose in life...shit stirrers, inadequate punks...real scum and low lives with issues against those who really have class and true character and talent...sure I'm not gifted with huge talents and I certainly have never claimed to be an expert in anything let alone in rugby, but I'm mature and wise and have a lot of general experience and I don't hate anybody, on the contrary I tolerate peoples foibles as I also expect to tolerate mine...it's called respect.

But what I find have to stomach is some effing idiot that speaks about a talent that they know FA about and little punks and weaklings that have zilch in life.

Yes I made a mistake and should let fools argue amongst themselves and should have listened to my old english and geography teacher who said it is fruitless to argue with fools...doing so brings you down to their level and sullies you.

I'm afraid I too have transgressed and fallen victim to this age old truth.

I don't have to defend Patrick Lambie...he is far too big to be defended by arseholes such as me and others and on second thoughts just leave it because Patrick will silence his critics and leave them behind and the case will be closed somewhere in the not too distant future.

He is a man with huge talent and character...egg is going to fly over so many faces in the future.

And Bozo it's not personal and I apologize if I over reacted but you and others criticise Lambie constructively and with the right spirit and then all can be forgiven. None of us are experts and that's an obvious truth.

Lets enjoy each others imput without putting each other down and use constructive criticism....can we now come to some form of peace???

Chabal kindly explain to me what was not constructive about my mozcroscope. Did you even read it? It's not degogatory, it's just factual....the follow up summary again is not inflammatory, just an honest exploration of the players strengths and weaknesses. This in the context of a player who was moved to inside centre to accommodate Butch James and Michalak at 10. The debate is legitimate, no matter what your high school teachers said.

We have seen your morzoscope efforts before - and frankly it is the most slanted descriptions one could ever imagine.  There is nothing honest - nor objective in your follow-up as well.  It is just a description that blame Lambie for everything possible and try and paint him in the worst possible light.  The latter is where the rubbish comes in. Take every sentence and you find it slanted.
By the way lets analyze the following as well:-
"This in the context of a player who was moved to inside centre to accommodate Butch James and Michalak at 10."

Why was Lambie moved to inside center?  Definitely not for the slant given by you - he was moved there because Francois Steyn was so piss-poor he could not be played at 12. and they were in a jam to find a 12.   That was the reason - not the rubbish concocted by you.  Please be honest for a change.

Sorry Mozart...it really had nothing to do with you... I know we differ in many aspects but i do have respect for you as I've said before and access you to be a decent sort with intelligence and there's nothing wrong with difference of opinion and furthermore I'm sorry for over reaction and wish for petty outbursts to be put to bed...what does get to me is remarks like PL is  bog ordinary or saying anybody that reaches these high accolades is useless...and that implies any player who stamps his mark on a rugby scene of such respect and degree...I never ever say Morne Steyn or Victor Matfield is useless...such remarks piss me off too ...yeah they are not at the best and have passed it but will always remain great but even great players reach their sell buy date...but to call them useless or insult them in meaningless terms shows utter disrespect for the game as a whole...sure we all have our opinions but opinions are personal and at the end of the day bear no value to the game as a whole...better now that I hold my peace...maybe just a bad day at the office and I trust that you as well as others will have the grace to bypass this and let sleeping dogs lie and that we become more constructive...you are not one that tears players to shreds.
