Now that we've seen Fourie du Preez on song for the Boks again, it got me to thinking. Scrummies have to be players who can size up the situation at a glance and act with speed. IMHO Pat Lambie is just such a player!
At his age, and with his abilities, he has the potential to make a great scrum-half. He is safe under the high ball, quick, can read the game and seems to sense where his other players are (as well as the opponents). He also has the ability to break tackles. With Fourie at 31 years, he does not have a lot of years left in the game, and there are not that many world-class No 9's in SA. Good one's, yes. Great? Don't think so.
Yes, it's going to take a change of mind-set for Pat to take on that role, but I am sure that he can do it. If I were the coach, I would try him in that position for the outbound tours in November.
