No Moffie try some perspective how many tests has he started and how many in his best position at 10 and how many consecutive tests in that position.
His status would have been far more impressive had so much time not been devoted to the utterly useless Morne. ...the true definition of bog ordinary.

There is one thing that Lambie has - which is missing from Morne Steyn - and that is the ability to read games and make sound decisions.
Lambie did not have a good year in Super 15 - partly because of injury and partly because of the dolt he had at 12 while he was in fact playing.
Any straight choice between Morne Steyn and Lambie and I will choose Lambie all the time. You rating of players cannot be trusted - you are too prejudiced to allow for objectivity - so lets leave it at that.
Just a question - when are you writing up your list of players you dislike? I suppose you won't because it will take too much time.

Lambie also has rugby talent he is able to make a break and beat defenders and is also a great defender.

All the above comments on Lambie are correct but he is not the player he was a few seasons ago and also is not the Boks answer for the #10 position.
One reason I think that his game has suffered is because managers of the Sharks/Boks have moved him around in the backline to meet their game plans at the expense of his talent being wasted plus deflating his confidence for the game.
Pity.

He has been messed around too much is still young and needs investment at 10 now.

This time Mozzie, without a doubt your'e absolutely wrong...Saf fex is right he's been messed around by HM and to a lesser degree by Plum and Jake...shunted from pillar to post in the past...such indecision by mentors causes the confidence level to waiver...good call Pollard and Lambie on bench, one of the more intelligent moves.
And it takes consistency and time to develope a good half back duo with backup ...not a one or two week or even more. Some people have such a limited vision ...chopping and changing is the fly in the ointment in SA selections.

Seb, if you mean that HM messed him by keeping him involved in the squad without playing him, I would agree that you have a point. I might be wrong but, off the top of my head, HM has only once not played Lambie at any other position but flyhalf. I think he started at fullback against Wales last year on the EOYT. I don't think that Jake really played him out of position a lot either (if we accept that his position is no 10). I think the biggest culprits were Plumtree and, to some degree, PDV.

Let me try it this way. Often players are touted based on physical capability....speed, power etc. Some posters, we know who, weigh their prospects. So let's do this with Lambie, but more as a knockout hurdle. What exactly does he bring to the party?
I see a kid who is closing on 24, weighs 195 lbs and stands 5' 10" .... in short, a mid career player, who is rather small. Nor is he above average speed, nor does he have a step. That's a lot of stuff going against him.
The positives could be if he was a real competitor, a great reader of the the game....and as a flyhalf, a great kicker. But I don't see him as any of those things. He is a decent low tackler, a good conservative decision maker....but not somebody who is going to impose his will on a game.
In short he is quite ordinary....best at fullback, but no great shakes there either. A bit of a myth. Cruden without the vision or the hands, ie without the best part of him.

Well at 90kg he fine for a 10, size has never been an issue. Balls that he does not have a step of course he does. He also has a great eye for a gap, his pace is as good as any 10 out there and his defence is a strength.
He has always had a good boot on him and above all a great rugby brain and temperament.
Lambie is a class act.

You are right CD...it was more Plums and PDV to blame and on 2nd thoughts Jake stuck to his guns...PL was playing very well before the second Bull's game in the S15 series...the long injury played a part too as it does on any player....Dan Carter, Fourie Du Preez are examples of this...can come back but will never be quite the same.
That was a concern also for forward players, Juan Smith...lets hope that it will not be too detrimental for Pieter-Steph Du Toit.
I feel Patrick will rise up again though...putting him on the bench with new star Handre Pollard just makes sense. It's back up confidence both ways...both huge and still to tapped potential.
Morne Steyn's removal will free Bok rugby of stale conservatism and sentiment.
