was poor...

Some really clueless up and under kicks, isolating himself on runs and never getting his backline away. Not sure why Morne went off but Lambie turned into a clone of Morne in that match on a bad day. His pole kicking was also not up to standard. He did make some good tackles but all in all it was a poor day at the office

Please give Goosen a run

Goosen is not ready for test rugby please keep him off the field but for a cameo perhaps. The backline suffered from a lack of pace and I didnt think Jaque did much or show much on attack - try was from an off side position. He doesnt look threatening on the run.JJ will play against Scotland no doubt.

Lambie merely did what he has been doing his entire professional career. Why are you surprised? Morne at his worst is better. This child is weak and gutless.

Is Morne better?   He never does what Lambie did - try to attack the gain line himself and get a go-forward ball to the Springboks - the fact that in one case he got isolated is entirely due to lack of follow-up by the loosies - they should be there to protect the ball.

We were indeed lucky that Morne went off early - at least Lambie made his tackles - which Morne often enough fails to do.   Do we need Morne - sure, like another hole in the head.

Fouriee and Pietersen was on the field of play and Fourie left a gaping hole in defence at one stage.   He was off-side in the case of the Du Preez try and if their was a TV ref referral the try would have ben lost and a penalty given to the Welsh.   For the rest he and Pietersen was there to fill up the numbers in the Springbok team.  They did not do anything of note and I suspect that it was the impact of the Japanese club rugby - leaving them without much steam to talk about.

Sorry members - but what I have seen of Fourie today leaves me no option but to prefer Engelbrecht at 13.   At least he has speed - which is absent from what I have seen today in the case of Fourie.

Just one other thing - Fourie du Preez was the man of the match - but he could have cost as serious problems with one of his passes to De Villiers - totally inaccurate and resulting in a serious attack by the Welsh and ultimately a converted penalty for them - could easily have been a Welsh try and even the Boks losing the game if the off-side try was disallowed.

Mike although I completely agree with your regarding Morne and Lambie, Du Preez had a good match and that one pass can be forgiven as he more than made up for it. Jaque Fourie and JP Pietersen need to get a feel for the game. Lambie was unexpectedly thrust into flyhalf, he more than likely trained all the moves at fullback.
I lost my cool when the beast threw the ball at the Welsh players, a simple catch was needed. Etzebeth dominated the line out.
Being in the Stadium (Left of Welsh goal posts in the first half, middle tier) I couldn't tell how Malherbe faired in the scrum and I was completely confused at Rolland sending off Coenie.

Morne is the worst defender I have ever seen, but Pat Lambie did not look like a test level flyhalf today. Was Morne injured or did Meyer just take him off because of his poor tackles?

Steyn missed one tackle....Lambie made 4 and missed 1....the usual selective observations. Lambie had a shockingly inept performance at 10.

I do not think Morne was injured - unless he injured himself while missing a tackle.   I think that Meyer lost his cool with him after it became clear that he was about to repeat his Ellis Park tackle fiasco.   My own feeling remains - he is one of the players on extremely thin ice.

As to the scrumming issue - I watched Malherbe carefully all game long.   The first scrum there was a problem already - Jenkins came under pressure and the scrumming on his part was problematic throughout.    He was at times pushed back in scrums and in one case Beast had a problem and he got penalized.   For the rest Jenkins was penalized twice for collapsing and then when it happened again the ref penalized Malherbe for no apparent reason.   I believe he thought that he penalized Jenkins twice for the same reason and the fault may consequently not be his - but Malherbe's

At the next scrum the referee warned both Jenkins and Malherbe that if they collapsed  the scrum again he would yellow card them.  Then before the next scrum Malherbe was benched and Coenie came on.  Same story - the scrum collapsed again and he sent of both Jenkins and Coenie.   I think the problem was entirely the fault of Jenkins - he was under pressure all the time and in one case he popped up - followed by regular collapsing of the scrum.  In between he was pushed back in scrums.   If it only happened to Jenkins-Malherbe  - why would it happen also in the case of Jenkins - Oosthuizen?  Jenkins was the common denominator in both cases - hence my belief that he was the real cause of the problem.

Moz did you see Morne's skew clearance kicks? Gave the Boks unneeded pressure.
Poor reffing strikes again. The pitch was in a terrible state, you could see tire tracks and at half time people were sent on to turn over grass that had been trodden on and scoop sand onto it. Oostuizen's not having a good time internationally is he?!
Can't expect someone who has been put at Fullback for a game to be able to play Flyhalf, you put the player in the position you want him to play.

As per normal your observations are shocking displays of bias  - so nobody can take you seriously at all.

Here is Lambie's stats:-

Lambie 0/0 2 7/4/7 23 0 0 0 0 4/1

Cannot find anything shocking there.  At least he was five times better than Morne was at Ellis Park.

What really was shocking was the poor show of Fourie and Pietersen.   They really did squat in the test and don't come back with Fourie de Preez's try.   It was a ref mistake not to see that Fourie was off-side.   It was bloody lucky the matter was not referred to the TV ref - it would have et to disallowance of the try and a penalty against Fourie.

Fourie's defence was no better than that of Engelbrecht and since he produced nothing in the game - I now prefer Engelbreht at 13 - at last he has speed which Fourie lacks completely.
