Yes Barrett made a nice break leading up to Rettalik's try, and there were a few other moments, like Willie skinning Conrad Smith and just missing on a try scoring pass to Serfontein. But most of the match was meat and potatoes.

Then there was the Lambie try....a bit of brilliant execution. The patent for this try has to go to Luger and Guscott in the match against the Boks in 99. It was an exact replica, a perfect kick to the corner, a brilliant jump and tap by the leaper ( Kirchner/Luger) and clean fielding and try scoring by the follow up man (Lambie/Guscott).

This kind of try has a whiff of Aussie Rules about it, but tends to be 50/50 for a try if the kick is well placed. Those odds are much higher than conventional phase play or standard attempts to breach the defence through the backline. It often means loss of ball, so it's subject to a lot of moaning. But is it better to lose the ball after eight phases vs one, with a lower probability of success? The only counter argument I can see is the possibility of forcing a penalty through ball retention..

There was very little in positive performances by the Springboks in that match - so it Is definite that if you look hard at the match - that try was one of the very few positives in that game. I also agree with buzz - while Bismarck was on the field of play he was awesome in breakdown play.
However, the rest of the game was a comedy of errors by a useless lot - the aimless kicking of Steyn and Pienaar, the poor loosie performance, the atrocious lapses in defence and poor and clumsy ball handling skills all contributed in a major way to the loss.
So a very little bit of good play should be the only ray of hope for our supporters. If one such incident is the only thing we can rejoice in a sea of utter misery - lets agree that the Springboks as a team put up a really horrible performance.

Lambie is my first choice flyhalf for the Springboks. I am a big fan of him. He is a model private person as well - a real example of being an absolute young gentleman with strong religious principles..
