Not only Habana - but if fact a total of six players flew directly from Argentina to play for their French clubs this coming weekend. Those include, Steenkamp, Steyn, Vermaak and Kruger. They will all miss the training sessions of the Springboks on Thusday and Friday and flew from Europe to Brisbane arriving in Brisbane on Tuesday. I wonder who pays for all that extra travelling costs - remembering that the players always fly business class. No doubt SARU is doling out the extra costs - but that is not the main problem. There are two others of much greater importance. Those are the following:- MISSING OUT ON TRAINING After one of the most dismal performances by the Springboks in years on Saturday - important players miss out on what should be important training sessions to try and eliminate the problems that was so evident on Saturday. I frankly cannot understand how that is not of importance in this case. I know the team is a collection of Meyer's favourites who cannot possibly deliver the goods in Brisbane - but how can that be allowed - even since most of the worst under-performers on Saturday are from the "French" component of the squad?. THE JET LAG FACTOR Flying from France to Brisbane and arriving there only on Tuesday next week is a recipe for disaster. It is even a longer flight and could have even have more devastating impact insofar as the jet lag factor is concerned. We by now knows that it would take 6 days to wear off and the game is being played after 4 days for the players involved arriving in Brisbane. SQUAD SELECTION Initially when the squad was announced it was emphasized that it was only for the game in Argentina and that the new squad comprising 28 players will be announced before departure for Brisbane. It now seems that the same squad containing at least a dozen useless players will represent the Springboks - what a fiasco. SUMMARY I have heard some crazy stuff about rugby in my life - but this beats all of it by a mile. Is Meyer that dense that he does not realize what he is doing? Does he not realize that his squad and team selection is defective? With that in mind let us accept that the Springboks will be disgraced badly in the next two tests and then see whether the message got through to the most dense coach we have ever had. The latter takes some doing since he is in competition with some really dense ones of the past. MEYER DOES NOT KNOW THAT HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING WRONG - BUT THE IMAGE OF SOUTH AFRICA IN THE RUGBY ENVIRONMENT IS BEING DESTROYED.
