A very sad situation indeed. A rare medical problem for people and not confined to only rugby players,

What a foul disease MND is. Had a good mate die of it 2 years ago and now another mate from my rugby club and my father-in-law have been diagnosed.

All the best to Lewis and his family. A RWC winner in 2003 from memory.

Is it because of rugby?

Same thing happened to Joost, it was devastating to see him deteriorate.

My wife is a Tigers fan, use to watch him play for the tigers. Really nice guy, he was in the schalc burger mould. Always put his body on the line. Heavy price to pay.

I think Andre Venter is also now in a wheel chair, but not sure what his condition was.

Horrid disease!!

Joost, Doddy Weir, Linee, Moody, Ed Slater from Gloucs, Steve Thompson, Ryan Jones, Rob Burrow (English Ruggby League player)

Im sure there are a lot more. It's a heartbreaking thing to watch someone suffer from.

On the news they said research said a rugby player was 15 times more likely to suffer from it but that the research was not conclusive

50% live for 2 years once diagnosed

Lewis said he went to get checked as he suddenly noticed he had less power in his arms

Dave

I was working in Education in Durban one of the Inspectors had he same disease. He was already sick when I started there and about five years after he was forced into retirement. He then bought a house in Riversdale - nt far from te House where I now live and lived for another 2 years before he died. So it is a deadly disease - but can take longer than two years to survive,

The following about the disese from wikipedia

It's not clear why this happens, but for most people it's thought that a combination of certain genes and other factors are involved. About 1 in 10 people with MND have a family history of the condition.

In Wikipedia there are reference to only 3 prominent rugby players who died as a result of the disease,- one of which was Joost.

I am very sorry about that news though.

Chippo……Steve Thompson and Ryan Jones both have Dementia, not MND.

MND is another of those terrifying diseases that has no cure. Its life-span is usually 2-5 years.

So sad to hear Moody is now suffering from it.
