Chiefs captain Liam Messam will start on the bench against the Rebels in Hamilton this weekend as coach Dave Rennie makes eight changes to his starting lineup.

Brodie Retallick will take over the captaincy for the match.

Prop Jamie Mackintosh and lock Michael Fitzgerald also return to the forwards, while Bundee Aki will make his return from injury to start at second five-eighth.

Mils Muliaina moves to the left wing with Tom Marshall in at fullback, while Gareth Anscombe starts at first five in place of the injured Aaron Cruden.

Jordan Payne will get the opportunity to make his Chiefs debut off the bench.

Chiefs keep making changes to their starting team - mainly due to injuries. Resting Messam had to happen sometime though. Go mighty Chiefs!! Anscombe at 10 as expected, he should do fine.
Ross Filipo is finally playing again, we haven't heard from him for ages but he is a good player. TKB off the bench again (my Fantasy rugby team is starting to look in taters, lol

Maybe it is a case of resting Messam - but he was by some distance the best forward of the Chiefs in the last two games.   The rest was mediocre at best.
I made some changes early in the week in my fantasy selections - bearing in mind the injuries and byes, but the Messam case left me stranded.   I will have to replace him with Whiteley - who I had on the bench - not really a top change.   I intended to bring in Sam Cane, but cannot do it this week.  What a mess!!

I can - but have no money left in any event.  What having to bringing back Folau and bringing in Anscombe - I ran out of funds.  I even had to bring in Jaques du Plessis for that reason.  If I had money I would have brought in Cane instead.   My total bank balance left is $37 000 -  so where to now?
If Pek Cowan does not start for the Force - I may make two changes, but that is a big IF.   In that case I can change Du Plessis and put in Cane as well - leaving me with the Royal balance of $3 000.
