From Keo

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer appears unlikely to blood any new caps in the run-on XV against Scotland.

SARugbymag’s Jon Cardinelli, on tour with the Springboks, reports that Meyer entrusted all the veterans in the run-on XV at training.

This is the side that trained.

15 Willie le Roux, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Jaque Fourie, 12 Jean de Villiers (c), 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Pat Lambie, 9 Fourie du Preez, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Siya Kolisi, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Flip van der Merwe, 4 Bakkies Botha, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Gurthrö Steenkamp.

The backline is the same one that finished the Test against Wales. Among the forwards, Bakkies Botha replaces Eben Etzebeth, Siya Kolisi takes over from Willem Alberts and in the front row Adriaan Strauss and Gurthro Steenkamp move from the subs bench to the starting XV.

What do you think?

My view is why take the likes of Johan Goosen on tour when he could have been having a proper rest and a full pre-season conditioning programme. Why take Scarra Ntubeni? Why take Louis Schreuder?

And if Pieter-Stef du Toit can start the Currie Cup final and be the man of the match he surely can start a Test against Scotland. Ditto the game time afforded Jan Serfontein.

Why play Jean de Villiers against Scotland?

I would have started PS Du Toit in place of Flip for this game! I have no problem playing Bakkies against the weakest opposition we'll face on tour, that way he can help PS Du Toit find his feet. Anyway, I am sure nobody can argue that Etzebeth needs a rest. Interesting point regarding Goosen. I have been saying he should be in the match day 23, but maybe at this point it would be wise just to get his conditioning in order. De Villiers should be rested, he is an old ballie in rugby terms, so I don't get why he needs to play this game.

My guess is Serfontein has lost elevation with the coaches. His performance on the wing against the ABs, a harsh test, didn't make the case for him starting. Frankly he would have been better off playing some CC rugby than sitting on the bench so long.

And there are some fundamental questions. His invariable first act on the field is to crash ball off an inside step....this isn't going to fool anybody. And against the better teams they will view Jan as a turnover opportunity. He needs to diversify his game and create more more for players running off him.

To me it looks like a restart in the S15.

Absolute madness..This, against a team that went try for try against Japan in their own backyard. Fucksakes Meyer..Why dont you just take 23 guys on tour?

I am afraid and embarrassed to think that this is a South African coaches state of mind. So scared to lose a test because it may cost him his job.. SA rugby has fucked Lambie up, fucking Coetzee up and JJ and Serfontein are next! I agree on the Scarra comment. I dont reckon he is in Bizzy or Adriaan's league, he is not even best at WP, but how will we ever know how he goes if he cant get a game against Scotland?

Then one wonders why we have a flop in Serfontein..The man was in a position very unfamiliar to him..Forget wing, that was just the position of being on the field!

Perfect opportunity this weekend to blood every youngster on tour and everyone who didnt feature against Wales should play Scotland! Meyer is looking ahead to France already. He was to be the coach that breaks our poor record there. In his attempt to break that hoodoo, he is breaking the spirits of our up and comers. Then we wonder why the player exodus to overseas clubs. Hell, Serfontein does not play CC, he does not play international rugby so he really spends most his year being one of SA's most promising players yet plays less than our provincial players! Ditto Lambie..

Very short sighted of Meyer if this is the team.

Meanwhile, in NZL, we are seeing the return of Romano which means NZL will have 3 top locks. What has SA got? Etzebeth and a bunch of fillers. We dont know what PSDT can do..We never see the man play internationally. Not even against Scotland nogal. We see the emergence of Piutau, Cory Jane make a come back, Ben Smith shown confidence at centre. Beauden Barrett (their 3rd choice flyhalf) getting solid game time. Sam Cane and Luatua getting plenty chances as with Dane Coles. We do we have?? Same 23 every week.

Its a fact..23 guys do not win a WC..Meyer reeks of a coach scared to death. Take a punt Meyer and show some faith in our youngsters.

Beeno, to be fair who have we really played?? Aussies?? They were shit this year. Major problems in that camp so lets not look too much into that. Scots ran us way too close for comfort. We almost fluffed it against Argies after a 70 point drubbing the week before. We won a series against England in SA but that is to be expected as we know these HN teams cant compete on the road like they can at home.

We are clearly the second best team in the world but thats fuck all good to us when we are this far behind the first placed team..

We can bang on all day about how we should have beaten the AB's on some of the occasions and I seriously think we should have but we didnt. Scores are in the record books.

AB's are bringing talent through and we're bringing past talent back?? Pulling them out of touch rugby tournaments and commentary boxes...Fuck this man!

These old guys are playing at the expense of BETTER young guys. At least Jake White was bringing key old guys back in positions where we were thin. Fullback and prop. Meyer brings Bakkies back before PSDT gets a chance?? Fucken madness man!

My vote, Bakkies, Du Preez, Botha, Matfield, Fourie can all piss off and take Meyer with them. Bring back Jake White!!

It would appear that snapster has seduced bok logic with his faulty youth at all costs philosophy. Their schooling continues.
