Likely Bok team
That is 100% what I think the Bok team will be, Meyer has mentioned that Coenie will have more game time though and the new scrum laws will help rather than hinder him.
The only person I'm worried about on defence is Basson.
Mozart: thanks for giving us a sensible rugby topic to focus on. It is like raw meat thrown to starving lions, it should distract them for a while, lol
Can't see him changing much apart from maybe starting with Bismarck.
Is Kirchner already overseas? If not I would say he's a definite starter.
Interesting saffa team doesn't look too bad in writing... Surprised cheetahs back row never make the cut as from my POV the premium back row of the comp this year in fact would go so far to say cheetahs entire forward pack was the most well rounded..
I think Morne obviously the safe bet particularly when come up against wobs and kiwis. But Ruan......? Surely any number of half backs that could slot in in place of him...
@justwin I agree that some actual rugby might turn the topics away from personal attacks on ones character, nationality and / or beliefs and..... back to rugby....
Anyway can't wait to see new look wobs come out swinging and hopefully do it for 80 to make the 2x home games v nz bearable...
If Kirtchener isn't on the bench IMO that's when Meyer has full belief in Le Roux.
The bench is up for debate.
Ruan is definitely starting according to Supersport with Du Preez on the bench, I'd like to see Kolisi on the bench over Coetzee.
Moz, like you I don't like Wooli Booli so I hope he doesn't start, I still don't see value in Pienaar or Kruger and Basson is also not a Bok...but hey, each to his own and Meyer must step into the breach. Of major interest will be Meyer's gameplan.....what do you guess that will be? I hope it's not about kicking the leather off the ball, there's enough legs in the team to run it.
Forgive my ignorance ... but who the hell is this "wooli booli" you guys keep referring to?
Mozart & Beeno1, we need you for your humour and wit in the Fantasy Rugby. My last appeal!
Here are some excuses you could use in the unlikely event that your Fantasy Rugby team has a bad week. See allcan be rationalised and explained :) Emoticons have been provided for Beeno1 where possible.
1. I was on vacation (or travel for the job) & couldn't get internet access;
2. The system did not register my changes even though I confirmed them.
3. I was too tied up with my golf & couldn't be bothered to deal with showing you cretins that you are indeed without rugby knowledge (or education either (smirk is required when using this excuse))
4. You dimwits fail to understand my long-term strategy. It's all a matter of strategic positioning with the judicious use of transfers (condescending grin required when using this, nose should he held high also)
5. I did not have time as I was searching for emoticons in order to try and get through to you half-wits. It's like talking to brick wall.
6. I was running my business ventures & just didn’t have the time deal with the Fantasy crap. (Actually my news paper route was cancelled & I was pleading with the boss to get it back)
7. The coach is such a worthless piece of crap that the players I wanted to select are not even available.
8. Picking players from this bunch is like fishing in an empy barrel & I couldn't be bothered
9. I had such strong reservations about the team the coach selected that I did not want to dignify this team by selecting any of the players (storming out of the room required once this excuse is used).
10. Statistically speaking I should be top of the table as when you divide the points each player earned by the time they were on the field clearly I won. I seriously question the algorithm used by the cretins running the show.
Good team if that is what is announced - better than last year on form and talent. Would like to see FDP get extended game time so we can see if he still has the goods and that debate can be put to rest. I hope they are insisting he returns to SA rugby (at least Super Rugby) next year if they plan on his long term use.
Very disappointed to see Louw resign with Bath. Would love to know what, if anything, SARU offered to get him back into the fold as well as he is obviously part of the long term plans.
Maybe this overseas player use is just a part of the reality of the professional era and a reality of a weak currency and just needs to be accepted, however I would like to see SA rugby set up an amateur draft system much like the NFL where any SA youngster would have to declare their intention to go professional and would be entered into a pool of players for that years draft from which the Super Rugby regions would be able to select and have exclusive negotiating rights to sign to a contract. The term of the initial contract needs to be 4 or 5 years - sufficient time for the team to see reward from their investment - after which time the player becomes a free agent and can sign with whomever. Super Rugby teams need to be salary capped and there should be profit-sharing amongst the teams. This would ensure teams would be evenly matched talent-wise, young talent would be able to come to the front instead of buried on the depth chart at one of the big three Super Rugby regions and it would provide a level of equality amongst the regions that would ultimately benefit the Springboks. The intangibles is what would separate one team from another - the coaching and culture of the organization.
This sounds like a coach that wants to start FDP:
""I was very impressed with Fourie du Preez today (Monday), I always knew he was a world-class player and it's been an honour for me to coach him since he was 19-years-old," said Meyer.
"He hasn't lost anything. I know it was the first training session, but the small touches on the ball and the way he puts the forwards through the gaps.... I am very happy that I brought him in."
And this from the backline coach:
"The Springboks have battled for continuity in the crucial scrumhalf position and Loubscher said the return of veteran Fourie du Preez to the squad had been a major boost.
"He's a world-class player, there's no need to elaborate on his credentials.
"He just slotted right back in, I was impressed, I thought he did really well in training. He brings great experience to the team and he makes it much easier for me as the backline coach."
The former Springbok wing said he was excited by the prospect of Du Preez and flyhalf Morne Steyn playing together again because they had each proven their ability to perform under pressure."
