Lions give quota coach quota headches

Cape Town - The Lions may be the pride of South Africa right now having booked their spot in Saturday's Super Rugby final, but their success may pose a tricky selection headache for Springbok coach Allister Coetzee. 

The Lions, under coach Johan Ackermann, have been the standout South African franchise in this year's competition and proved it once more when they dismantled the defending champion Highlanders in Saturday's semi-final. 

As a result, large sections of the South African rugby community have been vocal on their desire to see Coetzee select more Lions players for the upcoming Rugby Championship. 

Elton Jantjies, Warren Whiteley, Lionel Mapoe, Faf de Klerk, Ruan Combrinck, Jaco Kriel, Franco Mostert and Julian Redelinghuys were a part of Coetzee's squad for the series against Ireland, but performances from the likes of Rohan Janse van Rensburg, Malcolm Marx and Courtnall Skosan have not gone unnoticed.  (Add in back up hooker Akkers!!!)

But it becomes a bit tricky for Coetzee when one considers the transformation targets he has been given. (WHY NO BAN BY IRB. WHY NOT PROTESTS FROM NZ HYPOCRITS?)

By the 2019 Rugby World Cup half (50%) of the Springbok squad will need to be made up of players of colour. (I COMMENT TENNIS AND GOLF TO ALL SAFFAS!)

That is the non-negotiable rule laid down by government, and when one casts an eye over the Lions team at the moment they do not look like a bunch that will help Coetzee achieve those goals. 

There were just THREE players of colour in the Lions' starting line-up against the Highlanders - Jantjies, Skosan and Mapoe - while there was just ONE player of colour on the bench in the form of Howard Mnisi. 

That's a total of four out of 23 - or just over 17%.

It did not go unnoticed on social media. 

The Lions travel to Wellington for the final against the Hurricanes on Saturday. Kick-off is at 09:35 SA time.

STUFF THE RACIST ANC AND THEIR BIGOTED APPROACH TO RUGBY AND TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION WHICH IS JUST AS RACIST!  

 Time for a boycott!!!

 Players like Mnisi should also by right lose his spot once Vorster returns. 
I do however rate Mahuza as the better full back and hope he gets game time. Lot's of it. 
In the end ... it's about who gets the job done. Ackerman has followed this trend and I hope he continues down the same merit based road.

It is going to get worse with elections coming up in 2019.   Let me explain – with the Local Government elections tomorrow the ANC has gone on a racist agenda  since they are under pressure.     The worst racist user was the Minister of Sport – he was even reported to the IEC and  HRC for racist remarks made during the campaign.

There  are serious divisions within the ANC   and the result was a number of political murders and riots about election issues and potential election boycotts.   Indications are that some people will just stay away from the polls because of unhappiness about Zuma and his crooked cronies.   

  Despite all this the indications as per the latest  opinion polls are that the ANC support will drop from  62% to 54% countrywide  - it will be interesting to see whether this hold out in the actual elections.    What is interesting is that there is a massive drop in ANC support in urban areas – especially the metros.

If the ANC support continues to decline at a rate of 8% - they will not get enough votes  to be the majority party in Parliament in 2019.   The Government on political level was  so involved  in bribery and corruption it is virtually impossible to deliver services and to allow for economic growth.   The only way they  can try and recover lost votes will be to become even more racist than they were  in this election.   So I foresee that in 2019 the whole campaign by the ANC would be racist in the extreme.

Granted Zuma will not be there – but I am sure that he will try and get his ex-wife Dr Zuma – to take over the ANC leadership.  She is a rabid racist – I met her a couple of times and she is grossly unpleasant and is any time as corrupt as her ex-husband.  

I am afraid that rugby racism will be a very important part of an overall racialist campaign of the ANC in the 2019 elections.

 It's hard to believe that it could get any worse than it already is. 
And to think that many white folk will still bend the knee to this regime. 
Makes me sick to the stomach.

@CC there is no political way out of this that i I can see. Ultimately the war that should have happened in 94 probably still lay somewhere in SA'S future. All it takes is one assassination or scandal that gathers a tad to much momentum and we'll be killing each other in SA. I read some interpretations of Siener van Rensburg's work recently and it paints a dire picture. Haha though he does predict an unlikely German backed outcome to it all. I don't generally believe that stuff but from what I read on other forums and from conversations I have with other races, it does seem to me that a civil war is on the cards.

 It could as well be tribal wars between the various tribes - like happened so frequently in Africa.   The Zulus have the upper hand at present - but who will succeed Zuma?
