Eight, one third of the match 23 from Wales
21 Jun 2017, 21:37#6
Would have had Joseph at centre over Davies.
21 Jun 2017, 21:46#7
Daly over North is'nt that bad and with Farrell playing 10 no need for HalfPees kicking boot. Williams is the more dangerous runner. Itoje to cover lock and if need be flanks. Gats will be hoping for Faletau to come through unscathed then. Sinckler off the bench could be quite entertaining. A Coenie style prop who's handy come scrum time.

Joseph is suspect on defence and I believe Gatland thinks defence is gonna win these games.

A small prop in the guise of a blindside flank....slow, puny and not selected.

Halfpenny had a very good match against the Mabs.

I wouldn't have said it at the start of the tour, but I've got this sneaky feeling the Lions are gonna take this one.

I'm with you MonsterBok. Before the tour I was saying 3-0 to the All Blacks but now I'm starting to lean towards the Lions taking at least one test off them and maybe (hopefully) even winning the series!

Who was the poster who (along with the dull-witted rugby noob Moffie) was saying that Alun-Wyn Jones would not make the match day 23 let alone the starting line-up?
Can't remember who it was . . . wonder if he'll fess up?
Wehe!
Go Lions!!!

Hey, all that said, I really can't wait for this first test. It is going to be epic! I am tipping the AB's to win the series, but I reckon it is going to be very close. I can't shake the opinion that the Lions just have not looked great in the warm up games. Yes I know they are just testing combinations etc etc, but they just did not perform well against teams they should have walked all over. During the last Lions tour to SA where we won, they were dominant in most warm up games and still landed up losing the test series against us.

Really looking forward to this contest.

Agree 100% with that. Glad Liam Williams was selected.
Very good team picked by Gats. Just wish Jonathan Davies would pass a bit more!

A player weighing 115 kgs is not small and at least - unlike some of your favourites of the past - is a hardworking player. At least Stander is a loosie - not a lump of fat or a stand-in flyhalf.

This is a fairly typical rating for Lose-Jones from the Sunday Express:
..
Alun Wyn Jones - 5
Selected ahead of Maro Itoje and it was difficult to see why. Removed from the action after just 47 minutes.
Here's the Daily Mail:
...
Alun Wyn Jones (Maro Itoje 47)
Off the pace for parts of the first half as game played at extraordinary tempo. Hard to justify inclusion ahead of Maro Itoje. 5
