Combrink hoofs it out on the full...Marx still moving okay at minute 6. But he gets pulled awkwardly over a ruck by one leg and is clearly hurt. Very similar to the Smit injury some years ago. Meantime Combrink feebly misses Lam for a try.

Marx injury has more collateral damage with overthrown Lions lineout on the goal line.

Laumape fakes Combrink out his sokkies for another try by Savea....Combrink's tackling is pathetic.

Combrinck and Coetzee were piss poo r on defence...worse than DdA can hope to be...and that takes some doing.

Some nice stepping by Combrink.....fabulous tackle by Dyantyi on Barrett at full pace. But poor defensive alignment leads to another Canes try.

Schoeman scores...a very honest effort from this player.

Schoeman wasn't half bad ...good effort...and it's not the first time. Bit small though.

The clear demonstration of how much faster Lam is than Combrink in a long kick chase. Hell he'd beat Combrink by 10 metres over 100

Schoeman is probably not test material...but technically he has the skills. Why our better athletes don't become effective fetchers is an interesting question.

As does some other midfielders, but not a complete center by far.

The Lions are always a cohesive outfit and they came back well. Lots of sound players like Schoeman who do their jobs. I thought we saw the clear Achilles from Mapoe, Combrink and Coetzee today. These guys aren't test material. Groom is a smart little player....Dyantyi is likewise clever and resourceful. Mostert was sound without being dynamic. The scrum was actually better when the replacement props came on...give one to Dreyer. The Marx injury at minute 6.40 resulted from Savea pulling up his right leg at the breakdown and Marx twisted his left leg as he came down. Huge blow.

Moz, the Lions team is greater than the sum of the individuals...and it's been like that since before Mitch left.

Yep they are the best pure team we have probably ever had in Super rugby....a conundrum for the Bok coaches, because when the players are transplanted, Marx aside, they don't perform at the same level.
