Francois Louw-255-12--1Jaco Kriel-13--11---

Kriel 3 runs 1 metre, one pass, one offload. Louw 5 runs, 25 metres, 1 clean break, two passes, one try assist. Kriel 4 tackles....Louw 6 tackles.

Louw 54 minutes, Kriel who in 26 minutes produced 4 tackles and 1 metre. The fact is Louw was more influential especially in the period just after the half with a hand in several moves including the Habana try.

That's my take, not a great game by Louw but decent. To me Kriel was pretty much invisible.....looking much as he did in the first Bargie test. I'm sure I must be wrong given the unanimity about him making a big difference....but for the life of me I can't find anything of consequence in his 26 minutes.

Our loosies are just bloody hopeless in general! Their job is to tackle, protect own ball, and to pilfer opposition ball. None of our loose forwards are performing these functions adequately! Mahoje only tackles, and at least three of those tackles were high on Saturday. Outside that facet of the game he was anonymous. Louw is consistently just below average, and holy shart he has gotten slow! At one point in the match he was running with the ball and he was so slow I actually felt sorry for him. Whiteley is busy, but is rendered just about useless when his fellow loosies are unable to gain ascendancy over the opposition. I feel there is still hope for him, but only under certain circumstances. Kriel and PSDT are the only forward that seem to inject a little urgency into the Bok game. However, the jury is still out on both of them.
That said, it was the apparent lack of a game plan for me that made us lose on Saturday. The Boks were disorganised and to me it looked like a bunch of individuals all trying to do their own thing. Very amateur!

There is no comparison ... not sure why you'd bother other than promoting the old and tired over the young and vibrant ... the past tense vs the future legend.

I read Mozart’s above comments with amazement at his constant ignorance about loosies.   He is the one who explained at one stage that loosies are not there to protect and recover balls at breakdowns.   He went on to say that pace is not an issue and that three slow loosies  are not problematic – hence his support for Louw, Vermeulen and Alberts.     However, his main problem is the non-realization that loosies play as a combination – not as individuals only.

The situation is that the present loosie combination is dysfunctional  with Louw, Mohoj e and Whiteley as a combination.   Whiteley is widely abused by him as not performing – and the latest effort to highlight Louw’s  non-attribution  as a positive and compare it to the performance of Kriel is another display of  absolute crap.   Why are the Lions loosie combination so effective and the one of the Springboks seriously malfunctioning?    The real reason is that the Lions  loosies support and complement each other – which is totally absent in the Springbok team situation.

As long as we have slow and on the whole unproductive loosies  with no ball sense  in the team – the loosie combination will be malfunctioning.   If we want to see positive results we need players to complement and support the combination  - players  like  Whiteley, Kriel and Labuschagne/Tecklenberg should be in the team.      That combination will produce the required results – the present concoction will not.

Louw if anything is a 7. He had a respectable game. I belie ve we need a pacy 6.

Louw is effective in his way, and he will be effective again against the ABs as he was last year.
Whiteley is just too feeble.
Mahoje has been hopelessly over pumped......for one of the Bargie tries he missed two tackles in the move, both high. He gave the Bargies that try.
Kriel made some nice cover tackles against Ireland but is easily overpowered in the rucks and mauls. He will never be effective against the better test packs. Perhaps against Oz we can afford one of Whiteley or Kriel, but that gives up our chance of dominating the collisions.

We have been playing with one effective loose forward.

Mahoje is an active player running around. Unfortunately other than the Lineout- he does not offer much in the team effort. With his latest tackling antics he is now a liability.
Ideally, we could have Kriel and Flow starting- even if it means dropping Whitely to make a place in the backrow

What price Schalk, Louw and Vermeulen of 2014 vintage. They weren't healthy enough in 2015, but for test match rugby streets ahead of Kriel and Whiteley.

Sorry Mozart ... but playing with the elderly really isn't the way forward.
We've seen him against the Pumas and the Irish this year and let's face it ... he's already contributed to two losses so far.
He was appointed a role on the open side against the Japanese and that he messed up too ... we lost the match, thanks to him and the other elderly folk. That in itself tells a story.
Based on the above facts ... why in heavens name is he still in the mix? He should be long gone.
The All Blacks would never have tolerated his sub standard play. In fact I doubt he would ever have received a call up to begin with.
I know he's old and that's enough to get your thumbs up but when it comes to rugby he's just not suitable.
Simply put ... he's useless ... and his inclusion is costing us big time.

Time for Kriel to take up his spot in the run on 15 and time for Louw to return to Europe where he can wait out his playing days for retirement.
That's why he's there, right?

So far we've played 5 tests this year and lost two.
I suspect that will increase to 3 from 6 next weekend ...
We have another 8 tests to play. We may just manage a win against the Italians but it'll be a toughie as it's in their back yard.
3 wins from 13 sounds about right.
I wonder where we'll be ranked come years end?

Swopping Kriel for Louw will make zero difference to your projection CC....we simply don't have the players to put a competitive team in the field this year.

Nope in 2015 we beat Wales in the WC quarters,  were close to beating the ABs in the semi...and cruised over the Bargies for 3rd. This year the Bargies have our number.....but  it's scarcely surprising given the poor new talent.

The Pumas wiped the floor with the Springboks in the Durban test - this year it was a close save with them away.   The Japanese  beat us in 2015 - great drop in team performances.   The Welsh beat us at home in 2014 and so did the Irish.   The latter team wiped the floor with the Springboks in Dublin.     Talking about the WCC quarterfinal - the win was a fluke - despite the 59% ball possession and 61% territorial advantage - the Springboks trailed late in the game.   The game plan used in that game and in the semis was always going to lose the matches hence may comments about the fluke in the quarterfinals.   Lets face facts - the Springbok squad of 2014 and 2015 was worse than the present squad.  A new squad is being developed as a result of sheer neglect by Meyer since 2012 and the squad will improve with experience.   Problem is the experienced players are not contributing in performance and leadership - coupled to a dud as coach.

 It's a mess.

We need a complete overhaul ...
Mozart is promoting the tired and the elderly as our only way forward and he's doing this because Meyer never bothered to blood the obvious talent we have available. He too thought the elderly would be sufficient to carry us through indefinitely. Not sure what he was thinking ... if he was thinking at all?!
We have a host of young talent lacking top tier experience because the old and tired keep being selected over them ... and that's reason enough for Mozart to promote the likes of Louw and Morne and Beast. Silly I know!!
It's like tampering with a sore that still has puss in it. Covering it over with an old soiled bandage all the while hoping the infection goes away.
Instead we should look at the whole friggin mess and come up with a proper plan of action. Cut away the deadwood of yesteryear and look for proper logical methods to use.
We need to accept that Meyer didn't do us any favours ... and that we do not have the luxury of building on what he left us. He put us back at least 4 years ... which we now have to catch up ... and we have to do it with an inexperienced team of youngsters.
That means tough times ahead but within a year we'll have a team of at least 10 - 15 caps each ... and the year after 30 plus caps each ... with a lot more depth than we currently have.
There is no choice. We have to start from scratch.

Selecting off-form elderly folk merely for their experience is just retarding the whole process. They do not contribute to the cause any way so why select them?? I don't get this stupidity.
It's time to look it squarely in the eye and begin afresh and yes ... that means getting rid of Louw and Morne and Beast ... replacing them with Kriel and Lambie and Kitshoff.

i would be fine replacing them, but Kriel is simply not physical enough......Lambie is not a youngster and has never produced  consistently at 10 and Kitshoff had a whole half last week and never did any better than the Beast. In fact the Beast with his vastly better mobility even now is far closer to the model of the new agile tight forward everybody is calling for.

It seems that the only way to sustain his argument is to come up with a lot of fabricated nonsense.
I guess he must be under the impression that everyone's buying into his conjured horse shyte. Either that or he's arguing for the sake of arguing.
He stands alone in his quest to promote the elderly.
Beast over Kitshoff is hilarious. Louw over Kriel even more so.
How stupid can a man be?

What a joke a 27 year old, 97 kg flank, who isn't even a specialized fetcher in the Hooper mode is suddenly going to succeed in test rugby. Some calls have a measure of doubt, this is a slam dunk.....do you also believe in the Easter Bunny?

I agree with both sides of the argument re Louw/Kriel. I would tend to support the movement that is Kriel, however his success or any in the #6 jumper will depend greatly on the effectiveness of our 7 & 8. South Africa DO NOT have (Currently in the squad) anyone remotely in the mold of Fardy/Kaino or Reid or even half a Reid. So, in conclusion although Louw can head North and stay there, until we get a complete and complimenting back row we are going to be pushing S H*T UPHILL.

Louw is not an opensider. Louw has never been an opensider. Louw will also never be a top test openside flank ... not ever ... no matter how many times he's selected there, he just doesn't understand the requirements to make a success of it.
He is a proven failure at 6 ... over and over again ... ask the Japanese ... the Irish can confirm this ... and so can Argentina ... and to add to it ... he's now a slower version of his pathetic self ... selected out of position ... confused as to his actual role ... trying his best to play catch up ... and failing at every attempt.
The consequences ... another loss for the Boks. Another thumping at the breakdown.
Kriel cleaned up last season. He received the prestigious Players Player of the year award for 2015 ... and he did that for his awesome contribution and season with the Lions while playing at ... 6!!! That's right ... as an openside flank.
What a shock!!!!!!!
Instead we have fools who select an off form, slower, old man ... playing out of position ... out of his comfort zone ... without the necessary skill set ... making a hash of things at every turn ... over this rugby wizard.
Where's the logic ...??
Is it any wonder we're being thumped by the Japanese, the Irish, the Welsh and now the Argentinians (twice in a matter of a year) ... ??
I repeat ... "how stupid can a man be ... ??
Clearly his stupidity has no bounds ...

Yes ... Luke Watson did indeed and for good reason. He was the best rugby player in the country at the time.
How he never made Bok during his prime is beyond me.
It's one of White's many blunders. Much like Coetzee and him favouring a second rate chump like Louw over Kriel.
We've been trying to help you understand the basics of the sport for quite some time now, Mozart ... and to be quite honest your short term memory issues aren't making it any easier.
The least you can do is to try and remember what you posted yesterday.
We're not doing this for ourselves. It's you and your utter ignorance that's of concern to us.
Perhaps you should start using post it notes. Stick them on the fridge and ... well all over the place as a reminder.
Work with us Mozart.
We're just trying to help.
Old age really is a bitch.
