Ok, so we all seem to be discussing this moron yet again.

Lets think carefully about it...

  1. He started out for the Sharks
  2. Before anyone had heard him speak, the public and the media thought he was an above average provincial / state player
  3. He had a fall out with Shark management and went to WP / Stormers
  4. He began voicing his confrontational opinions and dividing opinion. None of the opinion was based on his skill on field.
  5. He made his Bok debut... after being forced into the squad due to political pressure.
  6. He made no frends in the Bok squad, but still played the same sort of rugga we had become accustomed to seeing.
  7. Dropped from Bok squad after making remarks which would have made Julius Malema proud.
  8. He ducked overseas
  9. Came back and now plays for his dads anti-apartheid bandits.

...He never was a GREAT player...

On talent alone, I'd say he is as accomplished as Jacques Botes. Botes is just very understated.

(this is all just my humble opinion)

... I do think he was good enought o don the Bok jersey, but he certainly did not deserve it!

He is a total prick!

Had he thought before he spoke, he could have had everybody eating out of his hands... He just has that type of personality.

But because he never harnessed his loser tendencies, he deserves F'all!!

Watch his debut against Samoain 2007; it was embarrasingly poor! He played further tests in 2008 and was a flop in all of them. On playing ability he proved emphatically in all ten tests he played that he was never good enough to play test rugby. Remember, he was going to elect Watson as captain towards the end of that season but backtracked as it was an abject failure of epic proportions. Watching him flounder in the nil to NZ was the nail in the coffin. We were still in that game until Watson walked on, then it was a free-for-all for New Zealand and they shut us down completely. Hardly the makings of a good player now is it?

Luke Watson was always poison for any team he played in.   Problem started with his father - who after 1994 demanded a return for the political sacrifices he made in his career as a rugby player.   He always was a greater political player than a rugby player and felt his son should be rewarded by captaincy of the Springboks.

It was in that environment that Luke grew up - and that was his undoing.    He was told that everyone was against him and he felt that  he was above the rest, but not recognised as a top player - which he believes he was.   The Sharks signed him up - but that is where he was a real problem.  His mouth always was his worst enemy.   When he came to Durban - he was taken in and assisted by Smit and his wife - but Luke started telling stories about the situation and Smit demanded his expulsion from the Sharks set up - end of story.

He then went to the Stormers and was even their captain - but remarks he made about his co-players let to extreme distrust between him and the Stormers players.  The result was drop in performance levels and he was dropped as captain and shortly thereafter he signed with  Bath.   Again his mouth was his worst enemy.

His international career was a result of political pressure on Jake White - who believed Watson was an average loosie - not on international level.   Although he was included as loosie in the Samoa game in Bloemfontein - he made a comjplete fool of himself and that was followed by an dismal showing against the All Blacks.    On the return of the team from Australiasia I happened to be on the same return flight with the Springbok team.   Whilst gathering our luggage at Oliver Tambo airport - all the Spr9ingboks were smiling and chatting and were really good in PR - except for Luke Watson who was as sour as possible, who never smiled ar even talked to anyone (not event he other Springbok players..

Cheeky Watson thought that his son would be made Springbok captain by Pieter De Villiers as compensation for past wrongs and when De Villiers did not comply - Watson thought he could get him through means outlined in the book of De Villiers.

Luke's performances deteriorated since he left Bath and I have seen the Kings play this year and came to the conclusion that he really now is not even Vodacom Cup level. leave alone CC level.   On average a player who wanted to use political means to get what he could not get on merit.

Puke is chumping at the bit to get back into the Super15. The stormers would end up playing Ricky Januarie at loose Forward to cover all the injuries than recall the Puke.
