He never was part of the Stormers even when he played there. Watson plays for team Watson.....and not very well at that.

Never was and never will be a team player.

Not Springbok material in any way, shape or form.

Well suited at the EP Queens......

ive always admired luke watson for the balls it took to do some of the things he did, a man of conviction, if not SA principals.

the few games i saw him play, i thought he was a very good player, or at least had very good games. he has also won a lot of awards for his performances, so im wondering just how many of the neagtive press he gets from SA mediums and public opinon is based on personal reasons.

Sas you are right. On a pure rugby front Watson is a damn good rugby player. Test standard without a flicker of doubt. The lad has good pace, good rugby brain and his strength was as a link player. His skills have always been clouded by supporters hatred of the guy.

In his day he was good enough to be a Bok, but he cocked that up himself. Great player in the Daniel mould, but not as nippy

Don't know what test rugby Luke would ne good at really.

His father did in fact select the right name for him..."LUKE" as in Luke Warm.

Sharks, Stormers and Bath all have done better without him....perhaps the Queens will win with him there.

If you are at the bottom their is only one way to go...up hopefully.

Well, with the rate of injuries ATM, if Spies also get injured, Luke might end up with a Bok call up. Heaven behold!

Say what you want but with Schalk injred and Flo in Bath, the Stormers could really have done well with Luke

"His skills have always been clouded by supporters hatred of the guy.".....there you have a typical Watson supporter's view of the world. This guy failed every time he was asked to step up, but he still has a loyal group of one on this Board.

Dave he was not fast.....Hendro Scholtz the fat Cheetah flank outran him, he couldn't tackle for toffee ask Hollenbach and he was nowhere on work rate in the pack. We don't need a Bok flank who  Rodney Soialo could pick up and dump 5 metres later over the Bok line.

If we really run out of locals Louw is outstanding for Bath and a definite candidate for Springbok selection.   He is one of the two overseas players - Pienaar being the other - that is as good or better than any players from SA in Super 15.

Luke is not a team player - he buggered up badly when he played for the Sharks - his tongue being his worst enemy.  He then went to WP - where his ups and downs in games ultimately cost him the captaincy and he left for Bath - where he was the captain.   Bath did not perform well - and I was not surprised when his contract was not renewed.

All in all Luke  is not really up to standard.   He had major political support at one stage and that in part let to Jake White being terminated as coach after he was a WC Winner coach - on the basis that he was forced to select Watson for one test - where he was a major flop - and afterwards refused to select him again.    His main supporter was his father - who campaigned on the basis that he was out of the Springbok selection - because of political reasons and hence felt that Luke should in compensation be the Springbok captain under the new Government.   His arguments had nothing to do with rugby performance at all.

After his misadventures in the Sharks, Sormers and Bath teams - he went to the Kings and that is where he belongs and remains for the good of rugby in SA.

Oh give it a break Hendro Scholtz faster than Luke, man you do make things up dont you. I take it we should discard Schalk defensively as well, given he was slapped by Lambie?

Watson was a class rugby player, certainly a better 6 than Schalk and had he not been a complete twat, would have played many tests for SA. Great link player in the Skinstad and Daniel mould - brought rugby brains to the role

I observed Henro Scholtz out sprint Watson

I observed Hollenbach and AJ Venter put him on his backside.

I observed Soialo toss him away like a twig.

He was not fast enough to be an effective link....he did his linking at scrumhalf.....that's why he was so often confused with Craig Davidson....except Davidosn was a bit more rugged.

Did you observe Lambie slapping Schalk to the ground.

There is no way in hell Scholtz is quicker than Luke - knowing how anti Luke you are - there is no doubt far more to that passage of play than Hendro just out sprinting Luke

Schalk won world player of the year as no 6 flank. It was only after he broke his neck he started playing other positions in the back row.

I dont care what he won, one thing he is not and that is an openside/fetcher type of flanker - never was going to be given his size. Schalk has always been suited to blindside or 8 for that matter. Much like Watson of Daniel being played at 8, complete rubbish.

Schalk's strength is putting his body on the line, just like Elstadt, J.Strauss and J.Potgieter do. He was never going to be the type of player that was first to the breakdown, turning possession over or providing the linking role that Daniel or Watson did.

Schalk is a 7 end of

Luke is a political pawn who makes more enemies than friends.  He was one of the reasons the Stormers did not perform.

Other than hanging around the fringes waiting to grab an opportunity to catch some shine he did sweet fanny adams for the team and only managed to divide the players and sow psychological division among players and among players and management – an opportunistic little upstart who has delusions of grandeur and a psychotic belief that he is the greatest loosie in SA.

Luke can not be considered bok material by any sensible, sane person. Dave though imagines daniels is the deal.

Go figure! The lift has either disappeared or is in need of major maintenance!!!!!
