Ma' a Nonu heading for the Stormers

Seems that South Africa's opening its doors to Ma'a Nonu as the All Blacks midfielder's Super Rugby future looks increasingly uncertain.

Nonu appears unwanted by any of the five New Zealand franchises, with a return to the Hurricanes about the only remaining option.

Springboks captain Jean de Villiers says they'd definitely have him in their part of the world.

"You've got a world-class player like that, you want to have him in your team. So, like I said, we can do with a couple of backline players at the Stormers, and Cape Town's not a bad place."

The Springboks have completed their final training session before tomorrow's Rugby Championship test against the All Blacks at Eden Park.

My opinion he'll head to France, surely there's noways we can match the French offers or Japanese . Anyway he only performs at international level, where he's formidable, so why would it be any different when he plays for the mighty WP ?

Funny though as we were just joking on here the otherday when he was carded about Nonu joining the Stormers as he was a bit of liability at times.

It's also being reported Ma'a Nonu is on the verge of joining Top 14 club Clermont Auvergne, French reports suggest.

Toulon were said to be in the mix as well, but their flamboyant owner, Mourad Boudjellal, has been quoted as saying the All Blacks second five-eighth is off to rivals Clermont.

Nonu is without a Super Rugby contract for next year, having turned the Highlanders down and not offerred anything by the Hurricanes.

Speculation has grown that he might have to consider playing overseas and they've been lent weight by Boudjellal's comments, who said he'd attempted to sign Nonu.

"We looked at the option, of course, but the player had very high contract expectations and did not fit our needs perfectly," Boudjellal told French newspaper Var Matin. "With Bastareaud, Maxime Mermoz and Matt Giteau, the position is full, especially as Rudi Wulf, Bryan Habana and Drew Mitchell can also play centre."

The newspaper cited Boudjellal as saying Nonu would sign for Clermont with reports suggesting "high contract expectations" were in the region of €650,000 (NZ$1.1 million) a year.

Clermont are coached by New Zealander Vern Cotter and boast the likes of former All Blacks wing Sitiveni Sivivatu on their playing staff, along with fellow Kiwis Benson Stanley and Regan King.

Nonu may not be the brightest spark around but I reckon he knows he'll be linched if he EVER had to play for any other countries super rugby team.

It's off to Europe or a sabatical till someone in New Zealand accepts all the baggage that accompanies him.

zero logic in that, why would nonu want to make spXV money and not be elgible for the All Blacks, unless the NZRU make a special sabbatical allowance for nonu.

this would be smart, ive always been a big believer that NZ players should only need to play anywhere in the spXV to be elgible for the All Blacks. that way our players are still exposed to spXV level rugby, while back home their spot can go to anew up incoming player, its a win win.

with SBW almost a sure thing for the chiefs in 2014, im leaning towards nonu chasing the $$$$ in france, as opposed to him playing second fiddle to SBW which is the most likeliest scenario.

also isnt vern cotter going to be coaching scotland next year??? meaning nonu wont link up with him, which is prob a good thing considering the fire and gasoline effects nonu and sader coaches have had recently, lolz.
