madiba magic at SA 7s,,,

south african 7s has been dominated by the NZ 7s, there have been 9 7s series in SA in total and NZ has won 7 of them including the last 4 years.

but the blitzboks just might make it number two today, the passing of madiba has seen south africa more united then usual.

before the blitzboks played in their quarterfinal match against portugal, the team went for a jog around the field and the crowd went nuts.
when the played against portugal, the crowd was insanely loud and u just cant ignore the madiba magic which is floating around the appropriately named nelson mandela bay stadium.

top dogs fiji have already been eliminated by a strong samoan outfit, and NZ will face samoa in the semis.

i cant help but feel that its going to be south africa and NZ in the final, but madiba magic has been one source of inspiration which has beaten many a strong NZ team in the past.

good luck to both teams in the semis, and i hope to see both nations playing it out in the finals, wouldnt be surprised to hear the PE crowd all the way from melbourne,

NZ thorugh to the finals as they look for their 5th SA sevens title in a row.

they beat samoa in a physical match 19-5, but not without paying a possible heavy price with key player tim mickelson injuring his arm in NZs last try.

congrats to the NZ 7s team though for an 18th consecutive podium finish in the sevens series circut, 19th podium finish if u incluide the 7s RWC which NZ won.

blitzboks are running on to the field in their semi final clash with the pumas, and the crowd again goes beserek.

hope they win and im looking forward to the final which should be epic.

congrats to the blitzboks who now advance to the finals to face NZ.

the way the blitzboks are playing, the madiba factor and the crowd who are insanely loud, i wouldnt be surprsied if NZ were to cop another hiding like the one fiji gave us last week, o_O
i hope not though,

cant wait for the finals, come on boys, this could very well be ur hardest match of the year and thats taking into account last weeks fiji bitch slap.

 the draw for las vegas 7s is out and damn, who ever loses the finals between the blitzboks and NZ 7s will have fiji, australia and scotland in their pool, while the winner will have wales, kenya and canda.

loser will have it tough in las veags, cos fiji are a 7s powerhouse, while australia have that ability to beat both teams.

 Nice come back but the blitzbok forw ards are not up to it. Powell needs to see this weakness. Otherwise there is some good talent. Kolbe in my opinion should be on the field before Geduld.

 saSUE a deserved win. However we need one big but fast forward. We we taken to the cleaners by Fiji at the kick offs and again this tournament we had the worst stats re kick offs. Its too big a weakness.
Anyhow great to win.

maybe spies should consider playing 7s rugby, especially now that vermeulen has a mortage on the Boks No8 jersey???

frankie horn does a good enough job at taking lineouts, and IMO blitzboks have a well balanced team, but spies would fit in perfectly.

kenya and zimbabawae are also very good at the kick offs, but thats cos those three races are pretty tall on average anyways.

ah well, im off to bed now, enjoy ur nice Bok win there brother beeno, we both know u get F all of them so dont go spending it all at once, :oP

 Yes I suggested Spies debulks a bit and takes up sevens. The forwards are tigerish but knocked of the ball too often as well. A guy like Bobby Skinstad would have been a great.
saSUE I see we are now second on table and 2 points behind nz. If Powell can find that one bigger but fast loosie then we are in with a big chance. 
Sleep well saSUE and dont have bad dreams of the Mighty Bok forwards!

It was a very emotional day for SA sportsmen and both the Sevens team and the cricketers playing India dedicated the games to Mandela.   Both were successful -


*   As you said SA won the Sevens and now has an easy pool in Las Vegas - Pool B is a nightmare - virtually no easy matches in that one; and


*   the cricket team beat India easily in the second ODI  by 134 runs. 


Both teams were really inspired and played way above normal capacity.   And it was raining since Friday in Durban - you know Mandela's Chosa name is translated as Rainstorm - the Chosas believe that he blesses us that way.   Miracle they could play cricket today and it started raining lightly in the Indians 17th over - they batted second.  Everyone was worried that the game would not be completed since a minum of 20 overs is required - otherwise it is a draw.   As the 20th over started the rain became slightly heavier and the Indian captain lost his wicket on the fifth ball of the over.   After he was out - the rain ceased and the game was completed.

 Madiba magic..Ha ha yep Sas..It has nothing to do with the fact that NZL are on the slide. Did Fiji lose an icon last week as well when they stripped your boys 44-0? The game is evolving but NZL keep taking the same team. The rest of the teams know what to expect now and can build a defence to that.

 

Just like on the radio this morning, the host of a morning show reckons its all because of Mandela that SA won but nothing about us just being better on the day. Its all Mandela...

 

Is this what you guys are going to say when we go 2 from 2 in the RC next year against NZL..Will that be Mandela too?

that was a hiding all right no doubt about it, but theres no shame to losing to fiji, they are the No2 7s team in the world, but while that was a wicked hiding, funny how NZ still managed to make the cup final one torunament later, while fiji had to settle for being the plate winners.

and at least we didnt lose to the austrlian 7s team aye like the blitzboks did in the gold coast, that would be the XV man game equivalent of the Springboks losing to ireland, which no suprises the Springboks have done 3 times in their last 5 tests.

but food for thought, the fijians have given the NZ 7s team an even bigger hiding in the past, they once beat us 61-5 back in 1996.
since then there have been 14 world series tournaments, and NZ have won 11, while SA, samoa and fiji have all won one a piece.
so this talk of NZ rugby on the slide is typical saffa wishful thinking, will bookmark this thread so that i can smile smugly when NZ wins the 7s world series again.

ive often mentioned how little u know about NZ rugby, and this is another prime example.
in the last two years, NZ has introduced more new faces into their national 7s squad then anyone else, ive heard that fiji have introduced more, but from what ive seen with their roster on paper, i cant confirm that..

NZ like all teams still have a core of players who have been there throughout the years, but theres new faces who will be in the NZ 7s picture for a long time if they dont make the jump to XV, players like giles kaka, ben lam.
so a big yawn to accompany my zero surpise about ur lack of knowledge on NZ rugby, but at least ur imaginary BFF sione lauakis uncle will be proud as usual with ur comments.
