Here we have it in the words of the man so many on the Board love to quote:
'When I was fired [as Springbok coach], they appointed Harry Viljoen and he lasted for a very short period of time and then they got Rudolph Straeuli and he wasn’t successful. Then Jake White came and served four years and did well and won a World Cup. So surely some continuity should have happened after that?'
For once I am in complete agreement.....firing Jake after 2007 has resulted in nothing but failure. Not a perfect man perhaps, but a brilliant rugby coach.

That is utter bullshit.....Jake was pathetic in the 2 years leading up to the WC and should have been fired, Eddie Jones saved him as he has England......the credit to Jake is misplaced

I wouldnt mind another pathetic coach.

09 Oct 2016, 21:32#5
A solid squad
A game plan on both attack and defense
It may not have been pretty, but it won us a fair share of games.
We dominated England, France, Ireland and Australia and held our own against the AB's during his tenure.
Sure, Eddie was fantastic for us, i agree!
Jake was a solid enough fella to acknowledge that we needed someone with Eddies nous to help our backline. Whats the harm in that?
So if Ackermann is made coach and he gets good backup... will he also be pathetic?

Jakes record leading up to the WC was something like 26% that year......his first 2 years were good and then he got exposed for playing boring predictable rugby.....he was on the brink of being fired before the WC......he never brought Eddie is SA rugby did.
Now fuck off you c%nt!!!!

Moz it was all political. Jake ahd built a great team barring wee matfiled 105 kg. The anc thought it a very good time to give jake the boot after winning the world cup and bring in that clown pdv! that was a huge set back. The dismissal of jake by the anc was a disastrous move. Halfwits like saffex can't see the wood from the trees! Jake may even been able to retain Eddie. The hapless guppies are still in the wilderness having lost Jake. Hahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha BUT evidence means zero to those with "minds" as closed as clams. Wherein all is darkness.

Wrong....Jake won the TN in his first year.....was 5 minutes away from winning it in his second year.....had a politically disrupted 3rd year, but came back to win the RWC in his fourth. The clueless one was you, pining after Luke.
09 Oct 2016, 22:58#10
@Saffex
In 2004 Jakes record was 69%
In 2005 Jakes record was 67%
In 2006 Jakes record was 42%
In 2007 Jakes record was 82%
Where did you get your 26% from?
His 2006 was full of politics (read watson, stofile etc...).
Eddie did help. The purpose of calling Eddie was to help our backline, which he did.
Ok, so if not Jake, then who?
My only other realistic choice right now would be Ackers. But I somehow doubt he'd have the same success with the Boks. He'd have loads more than just rugby to condend with.
Now [removed] off you c%nt!!!!

26% was a guess, 42% it was then, which was pretty pathetic.....on par with Coetzee now
My Bok coach now would be Ackerman and Swys as a pair
Ackerman had no say in the selection of the A side, the squad was selected by Coetzee......that A side played a great brand of rugby handicapped by April at 10 followed by Brummer. But Moz you would not have known that for you never even saw the games
Give Ackerman and Swys the free run to select their Bok side and without doubt they would achieve more than Jake ever would

Remember: Bring in Ackermann but DON'T FORGET to remove the quotas!!!...because if not he's almost in the same situation, hands tied and told to "select 50% of colored players by 2019".
Coetzee is mentally disabled (no doubt about that), but the quotas don't help his case at all.

There are enough quality players of colour to meet the 4 that need to be in the starting side and 2 that need to be on the bench.
Useless Coetzee could not even get this right.....selecting the likes of Mvovo, de Jongh, Paige, Mbonambi and Oupa
But he did the same with the white players getting most of them wrong to
The guy is an idiot

Totally agree, quotas are not the issue, it's his selections which are woeful. Habana for example is past it but even his selection of white players is questionable.
Dave, Coetzee is a dead horse, see no sense in flogging it.... Your take on Jake is wrong and it has been for as long as I can remember.....sure Eddie helped, turned our backs around but give credit where it's due....who invited him? JW must have realized that the then backline coach Coetzee, was useless.

Carr and Kolisi some would say are nothing better than club level...f or example
But even if they were then you've just blown your own point about quotas being the reason for the decline in the Boks.

The way the coach issue was handled in 2007 was wrong and was the result of the shenanigans of the Bulls wanting to install Meyer as Springbok coach. However, would White have lasted for another four years as coach? I doubt it very much since his stule of rugby was not adjusted after major rule changes in 2008,
White's record since 2007 is indeed questionable, He terminated his contract with the Brumbies because he was aspiring to be the Aussie national coach and left in a huff when that did not happen and his record with the Sharks and Montpellier was a pr and player relationship disaster.
So what is the real point about harking back to White at this stage? Coetzee was White's backline coach in 2007 and he was as clueless about backline play as was White. The style of play of both White and Coetzee went out of the window years ago.

Outdated? Not really, the Boks' playing style never changed through WC2015 and White would have executed that style better, in part because he would have reached out for better help. And given how close the WC semi was, better execution could have made enough difference.

Despite your comments to the contrary the laws governing rugby was changed in 2008 to allow for scoring of tries more than anything else, The problem was that none of the SA coaches really adjusted to take the changes into account. The team under De Villiers was run by the senior players and they wee oniously unable to change the way they played.
By 2010 the AB's worked those changes into their game plan and the Springboks did not do the same with disastrous results against the All Blacks and in a number o cases against other teams as well. The Aussies and some NH teams also adjusted their playing style.
Meyer went from one plan to another until in 2015 - with disastrous results - ended up with the Bulls playing style of 2004. That could never win the world cup and was to a large extent the reason for losses in that year. Meyer's other problem was he dabbled in selection of players way past their sell-by date as well ad those players in their declining years could not adjust their playing style in any event.
White never really adjusted his own style of play as was evident in the case of the Sharks and now Montpellier. The game plan has a reasonable chance of success initially - but spectacularly fail when the chips are down. It even happened in the case of the Brumbies, the Sharks and now Montpellier.
You would never admit it since you carry on endlessly about he average of the AB team who won the 2015 WC. However, the retirement of many of their senior players like McCaw Carter, Nonu and Smith has resulted in a better team combination than they were last year. The AB's of 2016 is a vast improvement on the AB's of 2015.
That is why they bea t all teams they play against this year by record margins. The opposing teams - other than SA - was only marginally changed and they suffered against the AB's almost as much as we did.
10 Oct 2016, 08:23#27
Firing White was a mistake. His contract should have been extended.
Whether we like him or not, it's just logical to continue with the man who brings you success. In the end it's about the Bok and only the Bok. We were champs and ranked top dog.
Instead we ended up with Snorre and with him came the inevitable downward spiral.
We've had incompetence running the show ever since ... as was clearly evident on Saturday.

This notion that the Kiwi players are better than the likes of Gelant, Ulengo, Ismiel, Senatla, Sergel Petersen, Kolbe, Zas, Skosan, Rhule, Sithole, Mapoe, Mnisi, Am, Jantjies, Nyakane, Nqoboko, Mbonambi, Scara, Carr, Kolisi, Oupa, Mtembu and Notshe is laughable.
These players would all thrive in the Kiwi sides as they do in ours.
I like Oupa as a player but he is just not physical enough for a test 7, he does a good job at 7 at Super level......much like Whiteley does for the Lions but not the Boks
Coetzee's selection of Habana and Mvovo ahead of the likes of Ulengo, Ismiel, Skosan or Sergel Petersen is laughable
As was the selection of de Jongh ahead of Mapoe or Mnisi.....young Am at the Sharks looks a far better prospect than de Jongh......Coetzee is fixated with this little guy.
With Kolisi injured.....Carr, Notshe or Mtmebu would have been better options than Oupa......playing a bruiser at 7, could have opened up playing Carr at 6 or Notshe or Mtmebu at 8......I am a big fan of these 3.....all good ball players, in particular Notshe.
Playing Paige at 9 was a joke.....there is a reason this pedestrian player cant make the Bulls starting side.

Wasn't Coetzee Jake's understudy during the 2007 RWC and after? I think bringing Jake back would be a big mistake and a step backwards for SA and the Boks - remember coach luiz felipe scolari for Brazil? But then I am an ABs supporter so don't listen to me.
I wouldn't mind you bringing Jake back to coach the Boks. We have unfinished business with him -->playing island teams and then England twice to win a RWC -->What cheek.

There is no way Jake White would have last as SA coach through to 2015. That dream of Mozart is as bad as his other dreams for him and nightmares for others - are.
Fact is that in his last four jobs White -
* broke his contract with the Brumbies because he did not get the Aussie coaching job;
* was effectively fired as coach of he Sharks for nurmerous reasons spread all over the media and in John Smit's recent book;
* was advisor to the Tonga team and ran off the moment something better came up; and
* was effectively fired by Montpellier because of a variety of reasons listed in the media.
That does not indicate a stable working environment of any person - it indicates a complex mental approach that cause major problems in teams. There is clearly a serious problem in HR in this case which seems to center around White's approach towards self-enhancement of his own career ahead of anything else benefitting the teams he is coaching.
So all the harpi ng about White is just plain normal Mozart BS.
