'Basically what we did was play a similar game as we did against the All Blacks. Fortunately, Australia weren’t good enough to exploit our errors. This game plan will be too dangerous against the All Blacks. . 'There’s a lot we have to worry about prior to the game against New Zealand next week. It’s important that the Boks get their set-piece right. It’s really worrying that they were so poor at the lineout against the All Blacks a couple of weeks ago. A lot of work has to go into our lineout calls this coming week. . 'A tighter game plan, a better set-piece, a good kicking game, and a far better defence are the areas that they need to work on really hard this week. And we need bad weather. If it can rain really hard in Cape Town, it’ll keep the score down.' . ..... I don't often agree with Mallett but in this case he is 100% singing from the Moz hymnal. Our game plan against Oz will produce another humiliation. We can't afford to be second best in the scrums and lineouts. We have to play tighter, using the boot to break up stacked defences. And the manne have to tackle.....defence is as important as attack, contrary to what Smith thinks.

Having a better set piece or lineout is not really a game plan because no team would want to vary the performance negatively. The strategy, tactics or personnel could change, but the game plan would always be to do as well as possible, even when deploying 10 man rugby or 15 man rugby.
The breakdowns will be key. Louw will need to improve from last weeks performance, and Kolisi and co as well.

The lineouts cant be worse than the game in New Zealand.Where things could go horribally wrong is tighthead
I think Nykana starting would be a better option than Dryer.

Well Mallet is right. Because I recall last year Boks played a similar gameplan they had against OZ. Againgst the Abs. And it backfired. OF course you can play that gameplan, you just need to be perfect in execution. And I Don't see the Boks doing that. I think key for them well be to play a pragmatic gameplan. Set Pieces e.t.c. Keep it tight. Employ a kicking strategy. Play the terriotory game. Sufficate the Abs, and take way their space. Beudan obviosley get's a sniff, hard to stop. And of course start well. Abs getting a 17 pt head start in Albany. Can't happen again from a Bok perspective. Abs are so hard to chase. Also Louwe and co are going to have, to be a lot better at the breakdown. Scrummaging too. Abs mauled the Argies scrum in the weekend. If the abs can at least get parity their againgst the Boks this weekend, well go along way to victory for them.

I agree with the above but what comes later will only be a desperate temporary effort to lessen the humiliation and close the score margins so the lost will be more respectable.

We won't beat the AB's next week...this is a pipe dream. The way we are and the way we will be will continue like always. We'll never be a threat to them (maybe a once off on their off day) but our rugby will continue to flounder until we are free to be honest and fair and select the right players in the right enviroment of freedom...we are living in SA in "apartheid" again but this time it's more subtle and in it's subtlety a far more deceiving monster.

So ... what Mallet is saying is that we have to fix our set piece ... both scrum and line out ... our kicking game ... that we need a game plan to play to ... that we need to get our defensive structures in place ... including the actual tackle itself ... that our attack and running lines need a lot of attention ... and even when all that has been put in place (within a week) ... we will still need the gods to lend us a helping hand by sending a storm of sorts to reduce the final score in the end.

In other words ... we need to fix everything ... in a week ... or else. To get back to the simple basics of rugby.

Wow ... does that sound like a man who believes we have a shot? Is he confident in our abilities and our coach or what??

Of course he's right. We all know this ... except of course for SharkSh!t ... he thinks we had a great game against the Wallabies and that HouGat is a superstar. He even rates Kolisi as a world class fetcher.

LOL!!!

The problem is that our kicking game is in the main pathetic - so we have a problem and a serious one at that.    The problem relates to the quality of our kicking game - not the quantity.   To even i mply that we should kick more often without paying attention to the quality issue is a problem.
The other problem with our backline goes deeper.    It relates in the main to the center situation.    Meyer always said we do not have the backs to play a ball-in-hand game, since the backline players lacks the skills to play such a game.  He was too big a fool to realize that it was not only a player problem - it was his stupid selections that caused the rot.
In the case of the present two centers they are part of the very same problem.   In the post match comment Naas said something drastic about the two - they carry the ball under one of their arms and not in hand.   The result is that they are never really ready to pass the ball and in the end it leads to passing too late or inaccurate passes with consequential ball possession losses.
The impact of Ludeke and Meyer on the two centers and also Pollard is getting clearer in each match.   the skills they once had has been coached out of them and drastic changes in coaching are necessary.   Fact is even Smith may have problems in the relevant regard - years of BS cannot be changed in a few months.
We cannot expect any changes this coming week - but it would be interesting to see what happens next year in Super Rugby.  Mitchell will not put up with skill-deficiency and the two may have to go elsewhere to play.
My impression is that both are centers that does not really have the skill to be contributing to a backline.   Both will have problems in getting into the Bulls backline in future because of their deficiencies.

It's still Hm and Apartheid's fault.....in fact it goes all the way back to the Black Death, and some say to the Crusades. Moronic nonsense.

The latter is moronic as per normal.   Please don't comment when you have nothing of rugby substance to add.

The only two SA coaches to have won a Super Rugby title. One of them pre- the much referred to 2008 law changes and one of them post- the much referred to 2008 law changes....twice.

Peter de Villiers is the only SA coach to 3-zip the Allblacks in the same year, PLUS he beat the B&I Lions. Does that make him a better coach than Meyer and Ludeke?

Mothballs taking things again totally out of context...why did you immigrate to USA in 1972...was it because you were so upset by apartheid or were you a draught dodger...a pity the USA govt did sent you to Saigon...lol.
As usual you are very devious, manipulative and fail to see the bigger picture.

I reckon on horseback with long swords and armour might be the way to go for the wee Bokke eh ? Victor would look magnifico on a destrier with his armour gleaming and that Lion like  mane flowing in the breeze...
