Mallett thinks Peyper got it wrong

'Going into the match Australia had picked their third-choice hooker [Nathan Charles]. Early on in the game you could see who had the strongest scrum.

'When you go into a game as a referee, you have to understand what teams are trying to do. Today I thought the All Blacks were really hard done by. They have a very strong pack and that was negated by the fact that [referee] Jaco Peyper really felt that they were taking advantage of the weaker Australian scrum.

'The Australians got out their 22 on a number of occasions with a free kick where they were really under pressure.'

A little awkward for the  pompous RooiAAS who is a huge Mallet fan. Apparently Mallett doesn't concur with the Aas' 19 century view that refs can't be criticized. As with all criticism there is fair criticism and sour grapes.

In this case I think Peyper, a martinet, was poor. The yellow for Barrett was unfair and  there were many other odd calls, the scrums Mallett mentions for example.

‘Wallabies were lucky,” said Rod Kafer when Nic Phipps did not feed the scrum when he should have. “I think he wants to get out of here alive,” Nathan Sharpe reminded.
