I spent the morning listening to a Podcast where Gary Gold was interviewed and he spoke about Transformation. I also recall a similar interview with Jake White. Both pretty much believed that they can put a transformation team out that can win. But looking at the players that both them mentioned. I almost feel like they are merely saying that to try land a springbok coaching job.
Gold spoke about Mvovo and Jantjies, but we have seen how poor they have been. Jake was harping on about Ricky January and Guthrow Steenkamp still being great players, but none of them could fess up and actually say that these guys are either not in the position to the worlds best but more of a musical chairs.
Gold had the gaul to see that they should implement a BEE programme in rugby so that coaches and players know where they stand. He also mentioned of the constant meddling by the government and rugby administrators that would single out which quota players would be picked. No wonder we are seeing so many below par quota selections in the bok setup. There is absolutely no concept of merit in our teams.
We will never be able to compete if we are hamstrung by having 20% of players that wouldn't even be picked for their own provincial team but because of politics players like Rudy Paige that has been absolutely awful get picks at the bulls even though is not the best and in return gets picks for the boks.
I'm not holding my breath at all
