Anyone concluding that this kid is not test quality has to be a complete idiot.

This lad is far, far better than Louw has ever been - adds so much more value in every aspect of play.

I raved about Thomas du Toit leading into the JWC - what a player this lad is going to be

I share your opinion - but Mozart is onto the misleading stance again.   He created a lot of statements about players he cannot substantiate at all.  The target this time is Reinach and Jordaan - but this was to be expected.

You can't prove you are test quality playing  against the Highlanders in Durban....when they are being overwhelmed physically. Louw was able to make a difference vs NZ in NZ....let's see how Marcell goes against the Saders.
But what was clear is Mvovo has made no progress against big fast opponents.
Thomas is clearly a very strong lad...if you raved about him that's nice. But you probably raved about 20 other players.

The norm is set - Mozart raves about some players when they play even mediocre opponents - but against the same level opponents his praise singing of other players are unbelievable.
Mozart does not like Coetzee - o in fact same as he does not like 95% of the players younger than 30 - so what else do you expect from him?

Coetzee ahs been fantastic in every game that he has played this season.
He has the skillset.
And for all you naysayers, he most certainly has no issue with his weight (being too light).
He would walk in to any international squad in the world!

Him and Alberts compliment each others style.
Looking forward to seeing them blow the Crusties away next week!
I just hope Kanko comes to the party as well!

As the commentators said, he has been sublime all season, winning 5 or 6 MOM awards.....Coetzee is the business, a far better player in every respect than the at best solid Louw.....its chalk and cheese stuff.....but the conservative twits will always go with the ordinary likes of Louw......and the very reason we will never become the best.

Last I checked, the Highlanders made the S15 play off's - if that is not a test, then what the hell is......what bullshit.

Coetzee is a class act, he proved that on Sat again

 lol saf!
ya brother... moz is a typical old timer.
Set in his ways and refuses to budge... much like clevermike on the whole Willem Alberts issue.

Look i do think Louw has been fabulous. But in Coetzee we have a gem in the making!

This is a test match.....

Well its a tough call...Flouw has proved himself. He has experience. On the other hand Coetzee has been very good/outstanding and I believe he has allready made the cross over to test rugby. The question is can he take Flouws Jersey.Competition for positions are healthy for the Boks.To be quite frank...and I hate to say this but the one player that actually hasn't produced form is Willem Alberts. If anyone needs to watch his place in the Bok team its this guy.

Louw has always been a solid player without the x factor.......Marcel adds far more value with ball in hand and has now mastered the art of the turnover.....something he has had to learn given he was never a 6.

Alberts is past his best......there are better loosies about. Jacques du Plessis and Steph du Toit would be far better options at 7

Of the current Bok loosetrio only Vermeulen is worthy of his place.

Brussouw, Coetzee, du Plessis, PSDT, Vermeulen and Arno Botha should be our loose trio options come the WC

I'm afraid the Saders are going to teach young Marcel a few lessons. But before you start attacking, let's just see what happens. It's so funny, two years ago we were in exactly the same place and Marcel flopped in the tests. A huge cry went up about how biased HM was to drop him. But the same posters now say he is so much better....which kind of proves HM's point.

In Mozart's mind players can't improve and the first professional match they play they're the finished product.

On the contrary Cheezer.....that's exactly what I believe. I think these guys all improve until they are at least 28. Wings may be the exception. So if you can follow the bouncing ball....what I'm saying is chaps like you were  howling for Coetzee two years ago, but now the story is, he has improved so much. So how good was he two years ago....far from a finished product according to that theory.

Coetzee is a hard trier....he does a number of things reasonably well without having a dominating strength. Like Mvovo he tends to look great until he plays against top quality opposition.

So I say again, let's chat after the Saders semi.

So you believe players can improve until they reach the age of 28 - and that they maintain the standard of performance they reach by the age of 28 thereafter until they choose to retire themselves?   Is that why you cannot stand it when people point out serious decline in performances of players after the age of 30 or even earlier?
Lets face facts - some players are early developers and start off careers early - maybe because of the attainment of physical superiority at an earlier age than others.   They may start off like  a bang in playing rugby and then stagnate and go backwards in performance sooner than then happened in normal cases.  Francois Steyn is an example.  He was very good when he hit the scene in 2007 - and went sour during the past three years.   In other words decline sets in at a much earlier date that when he reached the age of 28.
Your theory abut players looking great until they play against top opposition is laughable - since your interpretation of player performances is so twisted - it is unbelievable.    When you like a player - he can be poor against opposing teams like Scotland - yet you praise him as being exceptional (Bakkies Botha) for instance - while other players who shine against Scotland is denigrated because they only played against Scotland and that does not count.
Lets face it - your assessment of player performances is a joke and is contrary to fact.   As ab exampkle - you said Alberts was doing fine - but his assessment on Foxsport was 7 points - an absolute failure.  he fails constantly on higher level as well - but hie perforamces are always graded by you as fine or good.  An absolute farce - but that is pretty normal with you.

Nice thread Saffex;  I think Marcel has impressed a lot of people this season, and I'm one of them.

Well said Chippo; "Look i do think Louw has been fabulous. But in Coetzee we have a gem in the making!"

Here we go another dumbfounded lie, I've never took notice of Coetzee in the past 2 years, only recently have began to like Coetzee and even then I haven't called for him to start for the Boks or anything. Brussow is the flank I've been calling to start.

Coetzee having muscled up to 109kg has now added the physical edge to his game.......almost always breaks the advantage line on the run and his biggest asset is the amount of work he gets through.......he is what we had in Schalk as a youngsters......never say die attitude. He now just needs to learn the subtle touches Schalk has learnt.

The most frustrating point regarding Coetzee is posters inability to acknowledge that the guy is getting better and better every year........its the failure to move on from ones initial take on a player that confirms a short sighted view.

Players evolve.......Coetzee was raw and played out of position in his first year of test rugby......he was solid in those games.

Since then he has grown physically and learnt the art of the openside role, in particular the art of the turnover........why the fuck are posters so verkrampt that they cant even acknowledge this.

He is twice the player Louw is

Coetzee has been extraordinary for the Sharks, but you must remember that Super rugby is further away from test rugby than anything even in Europe! And he plays in a certain dynamic as well. I don't know if he is really test quality now but why disrupt Louw and the rest who played so well on the ground throughout 2013? TIme will tell but I don't think he is going to do anything better. Only Brussow can add more, but he is freakishly strong and a special individual.

Just a question.   Do you stated that Super Rugby is further away from test rugby than Club rugby in Europe is away from test rugby - so on what do you base that assertion or is it just your own opinion?
I do not agree that Coetzee should replace Louw immediately in any effect.  I regard Coetzee as a very good back up for Louw and he won;t let us down in future when Louw is out of contention.
To my mind Brussow has had enough chances and he constantly foul them up - even on Super 15 level.   Too many penalties and that is a fact.   I do not rate him higher than Louw and Coetzee - but that is also a personal opinion.

The usual confusion. Coetzee has to show it at test level. But as with all players he has to get there first. HM won't be taking great notice of his S15 performances, hell Watson was the S15 player of the year.
But Saturday is different. He will be up against NZ test loosies. So let's see if he can impose himself. If he can't, all the process tackles...all the runs through S15 opposition won't amount to much. If he can be part of the difference, he is finally ready for test rugby.
As for Brossouw, he is the 2 litre car competing against 3 litre cars. He was great for the Lions series, or more specifically the first Lions test....after that his body started giving out. Now after several engine rebuilds, he isn't half the player he was....although occasionally we see touches of greatness.
