To make the Aussie teams more competitive former Wallaby great Mark Ella has posited that NZ rugby should loan the likes of Barrett and Retallick to the Aussie super rugby teams !

He reckons that maybe players should be shared out among all the Super teams to make them all more competitive.OK then we will trade you Alaimo for one of yer props but dont send him back all broken and make sure ya wash all the mud off.I reckon we have a bajillion first class backs so we could prolly spare a couple .

Who would you trade ?

Don't think there's a single position where the SteroidBoks have better players than the NZ Super Rugby sides let alone the All Blacks.

Thing is, if you're trading players you're trading your 2nd and 3rd stringers, not your best.
Marx is definitely one of the better Yarpies but they'd never trade him because they'd be left with has-beens like Strauss or midgets like van de Merve.
The Yarpie teams are all so useless at scrum time I reckon I'd even pick Aussie props before any of the Yarpie fatties. The redhead bloke is the best of a bad bunch but would he make a NZ Super Rugby team? I have my doubts.

Strauss used to be a pretty decent hooker ,not as good as Bizmark mind but still not too bad.We had our problems at hooker sorted for a while but I reckon Riccatelli isnt up to speed yet and Codie Taylor isnt anywhere near Coles at best.

Now lets get some reality in here.   No SA frnchies would want any NZ Tight 5 players from any NZ franchise.   Noboidy need the sofities in the Tight 5.

As to loosies we have better loosies than NZ as well - but those are not picked because of politics.  I would pick thre lossies that would put tne NZ loosies to shame.

So how about th backline?   W have at thisstage better flyhalfs than NZ playing and those include Willemse, Du preez and Pollard,

I am not worried about centers either.  The last time SBW played in SA  De Allende trashed him as well after in the 2015 test he caused Nono to be replaced early because he played the fool with him.   We have enough other centers as well.

eW do not need any NZ players to strengthen our local sides.   In any event NZ has a problem already with a sub-standard side and two barely satisfactory sides - who needs regular ref assistance to beat opposition.   So they should first look a tte local teams and try to  strengthen them

Now back to the Aussies,   I have a suggestion - they should have foiur sides comprising players from Australlia, Fiji, Samoa and try and putsome more money into recruiting of other players into the system.   .

Where we are weak is in scrummies. /

You reckon we are only weak at 9 Mike? None of our centers are world class, they're range from fair to good, but none are world class. Our pack is pretty strong. I reckon at best our loosies are solid, but certainly not better than the NZ'ers. At 10 we have potential, but it was in 2014 that Pollard last performed well for the Boks and the other two 10's are very green and untested. Compare that to the proven success of players like Barrett, and we are just not on the same level. As for the back 3, we can't even agree on who should be given a shot, NZ have players to burn on both wings and at full back.

Bluebok

I was in the main pulling the leg of the NZ members here.   I am not so sure about the centers myself - but the way De Allende handled Nonu previously and this year SBW- the latter one of the best 12's  in NZ at present - showed

that we are not as poor at center as one may believe,   Aside \from De Allende we have Esterhuizen as well.   So I am not as despondent as others may sound.
As to the loosies who have NZ got - Read -(in the rare event that he is fit to play), Cane, Ardie Savea and Ioane.  The rest are just about average,    I would say that if the right SA loosies are  selected without regard to quotas we will be competitive.
Ther are indeed weak spots - but there are promising youngsters coming through.  By the way there is an article on site giving amazing stats on SA franchises performance.    For instance as to try scoring four of the five top positions are filled by SA teams.   In the  case of line breaks and defenders beaten three of the SA franchises are in the 5 top positions.
The above stats never happened in the previous 20 years - so is our Super Rugby teams as uncompetitive as they used to be or are made out to by some members?  I think not.

Haaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaa!!

Plum ... you beat me to it.

The Ozzies are guaranteed a few additional wins with the Kiwi refs around. That should be worth something. Loaning their refs out could be very lucrative for the Kiwis. So much so that instead of sponging off of us all the time they could finance their own damn SR tournament in the future.

I suggested a few years back that they should take their silly little tongue lolling Haka out and tour the world. Put a little face paint on and turn it into a global event. I'm sure the world will be curious to see what became of the cannibals of old.

It's a win win situation for all of us. We'll rid ourselves of their outstretched cupped hands and their constant tearful whinging ... while we join the rest of the rugby world for some solid competition. There where there's no official warning for becoming a little too physical.

I like it.

Read the full article at https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/103761559/let-all-blacks-play-for-australian-teams-to-even-out-super-rugby-mark-ella and count how many times Ella mentions borrowing Yarpie players.
The answer is zero.
I think he has a point. If we took the fringe Kiwis who failed to make the NZ Super Rugby sides along with a few of the current NZ bench options and allowed those blokes to be added to the Yarpie and Aussie sides it would definitely raise the standard of Super Rugby and make it more enjoyable to watch.
Let's be honest, the 6th choice Hurricanes outside back (behind Lam, NMS, J Barrett, J Savea and Goosen) would be Vince Aso. Aso would not only walk into any of the Yarpie sides, he'd be the country's superstar player and they'd be calling him the greatest wing of all time.
Truth.

And the biggest fool of all is the prejudiced farce posting on this site.   I never said that De Allende is world class - at least he is better than your favourites - Fat Fransie,  Bausteraud, Kerevi and Kuridrani .   I referred to two cases where he trashed Nono and SBW - which actually happened.

Why do you attack posters when you cannot counter factual cases mentioned fool?

Ka mate

Your comment on the wonderful players of the Hurricanes is not really proven in matches.   How did thexe wonderful players mentioned managed to lose against the Bulls and needed referee assistance to beat the Sharks
Read what the Chiefs coach said about the situation of scoring of tries  in Super Rugby this year and you will find that of the top 5 try-scorings ides - four are the SA sides.   Of the 5 top sides relating to line breaks and beating of defenders three are SA sides.  So why should we need NZ players to do what?
Most of the NZ backline players are slow and use physical strength like SBW and in th match against the Stormers he was trashed by De Allende.    In the last two matches in SA - the SA sides scored 8 tries against the 3  of the Highlanders and most of those were scored by backline players.
My ,impression is and I am talking about this year only - it seens that NZ may have soon to run a recruiting programme to recruit backline players from SA.   They seem not to have  sufficient class backline players to field in 5 NZ franchises.

Notsoclevermike, are you disputing the fact that Aso is only the 6th choice outside back for the Hurricanes or are you disputing the fact that he would walk into any of the Yarpie Super Rugby teams and instantly become one of your greatest backs of all time?

No I am not disputing it.   All I pointed out that the SA sides have trashed all six of them in the  Hurricanes - Sharks game and also in the Bulls - Huricanes game.

Aso may have a remote chance  to be considered by the SA  franchises - butitis unlikely that that wouldhappen. is remote.

I have referred to the fact that this year all 4 SA teams are in the top 5 insofar as scoring of tries is concerned and they also are tops in line breaks and defenders beaten..

At this stage I am afraid players like Laumape and Crotty will not be considered by any of the four SA sides for selection in the theoretical cicumstances where such contracts will be considered.

There are some deparments where NZ sides have better players overall - but there are others where SA players are better than anything NZ can offer and those are in respect of props, hookers and locks,   Then  there are where the top players are very even and those include the flyhalfs.  where 3 of the five top players are SA players.- with only Barrett and McKenzie being in the top 5.    I did not consider Mo-anga because he did not play in enough games to be considered.

Lets face facts there are no fringe NZ players that has a snowballs hope in hell of getting into SA sides;    There is a first need for them - strengthen the poor Blues team and get the questionable  Chiefs and Highlanders teams to become more competitive so as to win  matches without the active help of the especially the NZ referees.

It is a  tragedy - but the only worthwhile NZ teams this year are the Crusaders and the Hurricanes and the letter lost against the Bulls and was referee-assisted against the Sharks.   What happened in the case where previous years 4 of the top 5 try scoring teams  were from NZ and now only one of the teams is in that category?

From what I have seen thus far in Super Rugby - is that the SA teams are improving and the NZ sides staying stagnant or even going down in performance.  That should w orry NZ supporters a lot.

It will not last. It takes a proper environment to sustain a player's performances.

SA missed the turn to professionalism. They do not know how to play rugby, they cant train players.

After one year or so, an isolated player will be dragged to the level of the common SA player, no matter the talent and training he had when he joined SA.

Making a SA side able to play rugby will require a side with a majority of non SA players with a couple of SA players for the flavour.

Ou Makkie I would put a fit Dane Coles up against any hooker going around and guys like Faumaina not only perform their primary tasks to the standard required but also burn other forwards as regards mobility around the paddock etc.

If you want one dimensional players who can do only their allotted task and no more then fine but thats not what the NZ teams want .We want at the very least parity -plus .

When last did Coles play - not this year I am sad to see.   Putting him against Marx is like expecting from a school kid to be better than a rugby professional

The discussion was about the Super Rugby this year and the players playing this year on that level and that is where I say that we do not NZ fringe Super Rugby players to strengthen SA Super Rugby sides/

The fact is what most NZ supporters missed is what the Chiefs coach said about  the SA rugby sides this year about the style of play aside from the Lions taking hold in the SA teams  - a hu ge improvement om what happened under he duds that use to coach SA teams.

This can only improve further in future and next year the NZ teams would find it even harder to contend with - they may need even more help from the refs than they got this year.    .

That is not the problem.   The Blues loosies would be superstars if the Blues had a proper Tight 5.   They have an atrocious Tight 5 combination - but that is the case with nearly all NZ teams.  Thee NZ teams have a few worthy Tight 5 players - but none really the top class combination they should have.

That is why they need referee assistance so badly to win games that happened so frequently this year when they play SA teams.
