There is only so much of this type of migration that SA rugby can cope with......my guess is that we are fast approaching the getting out of hand stage


Three quality props in Koch, Marcel v/d Merwe and Maks v/Dyk are off

 Incredible list. It really has become like soccer.....one wonders about the SH international tournaments. In soccer these cups like Copa America are played in one country and compressed into 3 weeks. Is that where the RC is heading?

I think the point of getting out of hand has come and gone.
Even if the player returns for Super Rugby (as the Lions players are) - it has been shown over and over that their performance suffers and the injury risk is much higher.
If it wasn't obvious already, it is impossible at this point to expect any SA franchise to compete with the continuity of selection, stability and the luxurious depth of the NZ teams.
Same goes for the Boks. 
For the sanity of any Bok supporter, expectations needs to be much lower.
Lower.

I'm afraid the last great Bok team - at least one that could challenge the ABs - played in the 2015 WC. Hope you enjoyed it.

Its nothing short of crippling.......my guess is that the list is even bigger when it comes to school leaves or youngsters playing in the Varsity cup. Its getting out of hand now.


Gone are the days that we only really saw players at the end of their careers leaving for financial reward......its all ages now. The rand and quotas tip the scales firmly in the exit direction.


Its only going to get worse. We have a young SA cricketer as our 1st team pro, he plays for Boland - he says he has no future as a pro cricketer in SA thanks to the quota which by all accounts is worse than in rugby. How sad for him.


Munster and Ireland have targeted Jean Kleyn along the lines of CJ Stander.....its one thing the lads leaving but its another when they end up playing for another country. The sooner Pichot works his magic and makes it so much more difficult for players to qualify to play for other countries the better.


Its all very sad really.

 And then almost the entire SA was p!ssed off at Kevin Pietersen when he said that he got out because of quotas............
I'm afraid that the ANC are getting their way. Before long their will not be any quality white players. There will be very few white players to choose from in any case.
Those who excel at schools level will simply stop playing the game after school. Those whose families are able to do so will send their kids to schools abroad so that they could eventually qualify to play for those countries. 
I can remember when someone made a hell of a noise, on this forum, about what a stupid racist fcuking Ducthman HM was when he left out Trevor Nyakane because of his discipline and attitude. "How can he be so shortsighted to leave out a black player in this day and age? ", he asked.

 Naas Botha stated that the blame lies with SARU.   They are supporting financially 16 CC teams (circa 500 players) and 6 Super Rugby teams (circa 200 players) as well as the Springbok team.  There is not enough money to pay players and he feels that the CC should be reduced to 8 teams and Super Rugby to 5 teams.   That would release fund for paying the key players in top level competitions more and would at least keep some of the really talented players in SA .

Not too long ago, we were told that players who were leaving were mercenaries, who should just fcuk off and/or that they were not needed in any case and/or that they were washed-up hasbeens and/or useless in any case, etc, etc. Some of us warned that the current state of affairs were not too far off.

I have no issue with the washed up hasbeens going.....it makes sense for them to go and chase the money at the end of their careers and they do us a favour opening up their positions to youngsters back home.


But sadly the trend has changed somewhat and now we are seeing the exodus of good young talent and potential stars of the future.


I was really looking forward to what the monster lock LeRoux Roets might have to offer us but that has sadly been taken away from us.

Well I hate of course to mention this but many an oak here (including I believe the said windpomp) said we shouldn't pick from overseas players. In vain did I warn these oaks of the folly of the policy given the mass migration offshore which would only get worse.
Part of the problem is we have unthinking folk like windpomp and ou maaaaikie as well who consistently get these things wrong. Strategic matters go swooosh over their sloped foerheads!The kbbs think they are off the hook as thsi issue is for the noble saffas to deal with. However they would be wrong of course as they held themselves up as an example of not selecting overseas players. That they do not have as many departing was of course ignored. Some gullible folk here fell for the anti Sa rugby propaganda. Be warned the kbbs are a villainous bunch led by that well know rascal JW!!

The weaker the rand,  the more young players are going to leave. Selecting players playing overseas- might even be more encouragement.

 It's a straight fight between the economics of European club rugby and Super rugby. The more Super teams you have, the more players have to be paid.

Answer.....have less Super teams and  games, higher income per game.....pay the best local talent more, by default send the lesser talent to the NH and Japan.

 But surely it cant be all about money Moz? NZ isnt a wealthy nation but we seem to be retaining more players of interest to the national and super teams ? The 6th team was pushing it a bit far as Ou Makkie says ?The transfer of talent from all SH 'oop north' is worrying .

Wardrad it is the Exchange rate. 
Having a weak currency is not good for buying- but it is good for selling.
Then at the end of their careers- convert this money to rand and make a major profit. The weaker the ran becomes- the more value the pounds or Euros will have after their playing careers. They could probably set them selfs up for life.

WD the uncertainty about the future plays into it as well methinks. NZ is a whole lot more predictable. But it would be instructive to see comparative salaries for the top players expressed in a neutral currency like the Euro.
