Here is all the activiyies Alberts and Steyn was involved in during the game

Alberts

4:17   :   Poor tackle attempt - player stood up - while Alberts hung onto one foot.

11:26 :   Assisted Lambie to make a tackle on De Allende

12:42 :   Tried to tackle Knobel - missed out because of speed factor

13;40 :   Assisted Coetzee to make a tackle

15:52 :   Got ball from Du Toit in line-out -- passed immediately

19:36 :   Attempted tackle unsuccessful - to slow to really get to player

23:23 :   Missed tackle completely

23:45 :   Helped two other players to make tackle

29:08 :  Tackle made but player went forward in the process

31:58 :   Missed tackle

40:10 :   Carried ball 5 meters - after Sharks foul up kick in reception - party responsible for that one - but recovered ball for carry.

48:17  :   Assisted Herbst with tackle

50:10  :   Carried ball 2 meters - ball retained by Sharks

51:12  :   Carried ball 3 Meters - ball retained by Sharks

55:20  :   Ball passed to Alberts - tackled immediately

55:43  :   GOOD AND EFFECTIVE BALL CARRY.  The 5 mete carry ended in a maul from where it went to Lambie - when he got tackled 3 meters out - ball came back to Mccleod - who scored his second try.

66:37  :    Knocked on Ball

71:06  :   Made tackle - WP retained possession

71:33  :   Made tackle - WP retained possession.

Summary

Alberts himself made 3 tackles during the game - he assisted other players in 4 cases to make tackles - one very poor tackle allowing for off-load - missed 4 tackles completely (landed on the grass in the process).

He was involved in 4 ball carries of which only one actually produced marked benefits for the Sharks -  all four carries ended in mauls - none represented more than 5 meters in territory gained.

He knocked on the ball once.   There was an allegation that he took line out balls - that never happened.  Du Toit in one line out took the ball and passed the ball on to Alberts and he immediately passed it out to the next player.

THE ABOVE IS A REAL DESCRIPTION OF ALBERTS ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE GAME.   HE WAS STANDING OUTSIDE OF ALL MAULS BAR THOSE FOLLOWING HIS FOUR BALL CARRIES AND NEVER CONTRIBUTE TO BALL RECOVERY.

THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT HIS PERFORMANCE CAN AT BEST BE DESCRIBED AS AVERAGE AND LESS THAN WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM A SPRINGBOK.   I DARE ANYONE TO WATCH THE GAME AGAIN AND PROVE ME WRONG IN WHAT I DESCRIBED ABOVE.

Francois Steyn

14:50  :  Hard tackle on De Allende

29:20  :  Missed tackle on De Allende

45:50  :  Assisted Coetzee to make tackle

46: 47 :  Carried ball and passed to outside players - try, but disallowed

52:32  :  Carried ball about 2 meters - tackled - ball retained

Later - before replacement - I found two tackles made by  Steyn plus another pass that nearly let to a try - Marais tackled and landed out of play.

Summary

Steyn in fact made 3 tackles during the whole game -assisted Coetzee with one tackle - missed one tackle - carried the ball twice over short distances - and made two good passes.

THE ABOVE WAS THE SUM TOTAL OF STEYN'S COMTRIB UTION TO THE GAME.
