Match stats for Boks vs Oz

NZ Herald seems to bury its match stats these days but I found them at the bottom of this article.

Essentially Oz had much more attack than Boks: 596 meters to 307
Boks made far more clean breaks though 7 Oz to 17 Boks (would be interesting to see how made these clean breaks).
Boks also had more offloads: 7 Boks 4 Oz
Boks had to make far more tackles
On defence: Boks won more lineouts 7 Oz (they lost 4) to 12 Boks (they lost 1)
Overall looks like a decent performance by Boks at least 1 kiwi commentator has said they could beat ABs - we will see. For sure ABs are not playing anywhere near their usual standard but Hansen is giving new blokes a shot, sometimes this is forced by injuries. Looking forward to Boks vs ABs as we will all get a better sense of how good our teams are. IMO ABs will win but it will be a tough game of course.

We won't beat the ABs, but it's not about that, it's about showing a visible improvement from last year. 

I'd be happy with it not getting embarrassing in Albany. Them smashing the Aus in Bloem, and running you guys close at Newlands.

The improvment is there for all to see, just about building on that, the traditional springbok forward dominance and set piece dominance is seemingly back - now it's time to get some invention in the back line. 

It doesn't help that we sell ourselves short by leaving better players at home - Combrinck, RJvR, Am, Nkosi would all improve this team greatly. 

 Agreed Deddy. We have already improved and can do even better with the correct sellections.

Well ... it's not exactly as if we could do any worse than we did last year, Deddy.

We hit bottom with a thud ... and were well on our way to challenging the rest for the 10th ranked spot ... and beyond. We looked rather determined to achieve this milestone.

How could we not beat such a pathetic French side. I'm sure if we had played them last year we would have done the same. Same goes for the Pumas. Have they turned to sh!t or what?

The only thing that's changed with us since last year is that with the inclusion of Coetzee's help we've gained a little more structure to our game ... not that that was evident with all the aimless kicking we saw yesterday. Seems it's easy to return to habits of old ... especially when Jantjies hits the panic button.   

Other than that, we're still the same losers we were last year ... using the same race based policies ... the same poor selections like Coenie and Jesse Kriel ... the same useless quotas in Cassiem, Bongi and Rhule ... just with a little more structure.

It's like polishing a turd.

We've been fortunate to have played these pathetic nations this year and it's given us the impression that we're moving forward ... that we're finally "progressing" ... but it 's all unfounded ... and probably based more on hope for the Bok than facing reality.

Winning every game is always a priority but I agree the main goal is to have the best team for the RWC. In the last couple of cycles we have been able to win almost every game and win the RWC & as fans we are so spoiled. We may lose a few along the way but as long as it is clear that we are progressing in building the best RWC team I am not going to get over excited about a loss or two.
