....but just as against Oz we couldn't put the opponent away. We were ahead

328 to 230 metres gained

55%  to 45% in possession

57% to 43% in territory

106 to 142 in opposition tackles.

We only lagged in the lineouts 2 to 3 in number of steals. We had tons of ball. But since 2009 we haven't had a clue as to what to do with the damn thing. Matches are won by beating tackles and breaching defences. We are simply not good at doing that....and when we do as Jean did brilliantly once today, there is nobody to whom to pass the ball.

Funny hey, just goes to show...

Stats mean bugger all!

The only thing that counts is the final score.

Moz we had 51 to 49 % possession. We did not have anyhting near the dominancee we had ver oz where I think we had 80% possesion. Against Oz we were at least 20 to 30 points better and would have romped home but for nz cheat BL  the nz ref of the year thrwn ut by the IRB!!!!!! SHOWS HOW THESE NZ MONGS ARE COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY!!!

In this match we were marginally better than England who were ucky to get a draw out o a very poor Bok perfoamce and though that nz dud Walsh fouled up in a number of cases he was brilliant compared to BL. So Moz comparisons are not warranted between these two games.

As I said before a full strenght Bok side would massacre England, and I am sure Becs will agree even if Lady MO(NH) cant see it.

The great pity of the weekend though was that the baby boks fielded a side missing so many class backs and thereby denied us the the pleasure of seeing the baby abs being massacred.

Imagine how hakwa would have coped with that. As it is I am sure a number of nz oaks are at the shrinks office and sedatives are being prescribed in alarming portions!! Ou sitting bull is coping by denying it happened. Instead they focus on their bogus win against the Irish, Bwahhahahaha ya have to feel for the down under mongs! Fancy seriously giving player ratings in such a game - why even boher if you have any sense at all?

Mozart

I do believe ths stats provided - but the real question is - what did we do with the ball when we had it.  The key issue here is Morne and I believe it when Meyer said he is worried by the performance of Morne.   Unless he improves - he is going to get the walking ticket from Meyer himself sooner rather than later.

Mike if Morne sorts out thsiskicking nightmare he is going through he will retain his spot. This is probably the best to hope for as 2014 would be about when Goosen is ready. As Moz says he does know meyrs game plan etc However, as snapster has said, maybe I am too conservative. The Bok team will change a lot over the next years and it has to be done wisely. Someone made the point about Etzebeth playing in every game so far this season. This is sheer madenss. I hope he is benched for our game agaisnt the Lions along with Jean, Kitshoff and Habana.

Beeno, I disagree with putting the blame squarely on Morne. Mate, I'll say it again and again, we need a backline coach, one like Eddie Jones, someone who can educate all of our backline into the art of attack.

We don't have that person.

Any coach worth his salt lives by stats.

Denny I fully agree re the backline coach. Meyer though has made a very strange pick here in Ricardo loubscer. Lets hope he has got it right.

The fact though if you are not dominating the gainline with good go forward ball its difficult to breach defences and hence the Meyer approach. But Mallet who really spoke a lot of sense after the match spoke of playing too narrow/restricted and not VARYING PLAY WHICH MAKES DEFENDING EASIER. BOTH ARE TRUE. IF YOU HAVE THE FORWARDS ABLE TO BOSS THE GAINLINE REGARDESS THEN A RESTRICTIVE APPROACH WILL STILL WORK. WE DO HAVE THOSE FORWARDS BUT SHOULD OF COURSE HAVE A PLAN B. HMMM SEEMS CAPS LOCK GOT TURNED ON.

Mallet knows his stuff and summed up the essential problems in a tick. Re Morne he said if his kcking doesnt come right then its time for a change. I agree

He did not disagre either with Meyer saying we do not need necessarily need a classic fetcher. He mentioned the penalties they typically concede and as an example said that a fetcher may even have cost us the game in the dying minutes by going for a ball and conceding a penalty.

Stats are good on paper...but points win matches.

Morne must go, the present squad cannot afford to carry him into the 4 nations(?)

Presently we have fit #10 players in Jantjies, Grant, Lambie and a few young future Boks so why wait.

Even if they fail they will still only equal Morne's contribution to Bok rugby.

Once Goosen is fit Morne will be an ex Bok anyway.
