There was a serious deterioration in the performance of the Lions in the CC. Like in the case of the Bulls - where Matfield was the assistant coach for attacking play - the question arises whether Matfield's impact on the Lions is not negative and his appointment a mistake,
He was a good player until 2011 and then went bad when he retuned in 2014, His coaching of the Bulls iro attacking play was poor and one has to see whether the situation improves in Super Rugby 2018. I have my doubts though and it w ill be interesting to see what happens in that series.

There we go again. The Bulls, when Matfield was the attacking coach, were so crap that they won the SA Conference. When is Ou Maaikie ever going to explain that anomaly to us?

He was their attack coach in 2014 and 2015 and attack vanished from the Bulls game after 2013. Even in the 2013 SR series the Bulls and Stormers shared one thing - they combined to form the lowest number of tries scored. fact is the Cheetahs backline scored more tries than the whole Bulls team did.
Fact is further that the Bulls could not get rid of Matfield fast enough in 2015.

Well Mike ... it certainly would explain a lot.
The Lions were a force in this years SR and have regressed terribly since Matfield's appointment. That's no coincidence. They don't look like the same team anymore.
For one ... we see Janse van Rensburg playing at 13 now ... when we all know that he's much better suited to the 12 jumper. That's where his strength lies. Vorster has played at 13 before and impressed there. No doubt an ignorant Matfield suggestion.
It takes just a few bad decisions to undo a lot of hard work and let's face it, Swys has come up with a few doozys since Johan Ackerman left. Letting Acker vd Merwe go was really annoying and Matfield's appointment is the cherry on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
Matfield is known to divide people rather than unite. Everything he touches turns to sh!t as is very much evident at his former franchise and now at the Lions.
I thought we were on our way to seeing a Lions era of at least a decade. Well ... that dream has come and gone.

Mike, for the millionth time. Matfield stopped being an assistant coach at the end of 2013 because he farking started playing again in 2014 when he signed a two year playing contract. But hey, maybe the facts are just wrong because everybody on this forum are BS’ers except you.
If Matfield was such a divisive person then why is it that he has such a good record as a captain. Why is it that he was such a popular captain when the won two Super Rugby titles on his watch? Why is it that the rest of the rugby world held him in such high regard accept in South Africa?
Then again, when a team does not do well it is easy to pick out the person/persons that you dislike and blame them. We have been hearing what a great coach Swys De Bruin is, for a few years now and there were even a number of people arguing that it is actually him and not Ackermann who was the real force at the Lions. Now suddenly the wheels come off and the new guy gets the blame. What a weak plodder Swys has to be if he allows new guy Matfield to waltz in and fark up everything?

Why is it that the rest of the rugby world held him in such high regard accept in South Africa?Because they want a weak Bok side with the renowned fop matfiled at lock who was as gruntless as a gadding fruit fly!
Ou matfiled has a lot to prove as a coach although he fancies he should be Bok coach Bwahhahahahahahahahaha One thing though ou matfiled is the biggest con artist there ever was in rugby. I wonder if he has the smarts to be a good coach. he played a lot of his time in the backline and should have some ideas about backline play.I have doubts about wee matfiled as a coach. Time will tell. CC wrote a sane bit on this.

Actually I was also wondering why Rohan was playing 13 and Vorster 12. It seemed odd.....but either way without Jantjies those guys looked as ordinary as yesterday’s porridge.

In 2014 and 2015 Matfield was a divisive in the changeroom similar to Fat Fransie in the case of the Sharks. They took talk in the changerooms to Ludeke and White respectively. CC is perfectly correct about that statement.
The outcome was a flight of players from the bulls overseas and departing from the Bulls. It was clear that during 2015 the Union became aware of the toxic situation and fired Ludeke - while releasing Matfield from his contract.
Matfield has a long history of being divisive in teams and that he was part of an inner clique that ran the set-up when De Villiers was coach. his relationship with Meyer and Lude4ke was indeed que3stionable - so what will his future as assista nt coach be?

Mike. You should get in touch with HBO. Game of Thrones is coming to an end and there will not be any more books. They would probably be desperate for someone who could come up with new fantasy stories.

Listen Dofdoos
I have corrected that so-called major flaws I made and Mozart keep commenting on the issues I raised and so did you making stupid and devious comments on issues. If you read the history of the UK you should by now realize you are a hairsplitting ifiot.
And of rugby you know zero - so it is a pleasure to laugh at your continuous BS,
