Seems that Fourie Dupreez will be a member of the coaching staff, with Alan Zonadagh the director of Rugby.
Not sure what happened with Matfield at the Lions, where he did not last long.

Is the following the newspaper report you referred to:-
" Victor Matfield looks to be the favourite to be unveiled as the new head coach of the Bulls ahead of the 2019 Super Rugby season.
According to Rapport, the former Springbok lock has edged out Deon Davids for the role.
The other man shortlisted for the position, Pote Human, is expected to be named as one of Matfield's assistant coaches.
The other big news is that Alan Zondagh is in line to be named as the new Director of Rugby at the Bulls, replacing John Mitchell.
Zondagh, the former Director of Rugby at Saracens and a stalwart of South African rugby, would oversee all of the Bulls structures but Matfield would be in charge of the Super Rugby side.
The report adds that Matfield is in the process of trying to wrap up his contract with broadcasters SuperSport, where he works as an analyst, while his role in the Currie Cup side must also be finalised before any final decisions are made.
Former Bok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez, the report adds, could form part of Matfield's backroom staff. "
I think he had some minor job at the Lions - not sure whether he was on a contract with him or just in a part-time capacity - with permission from Supersport.- there is a reference to a CC team - that could have been the Lions, since the Bulls had Pote Human as their CC coach.
I am not sure whether Matfield will be a good enough coach - but the person in charge of him will be Alan Zondagh - so he may be able to provide advice when needed.
While wee matfiled was a disgrace to the Boks tightfies (his backline play was also very sub par) anybody smart enough to con so many is no fool and i am cautiously optimistic that the conman is a smart guy who knows his rugby and may do a job for the bulle.
So one wishes wee matfiled well and of course i am, extremely thankful his days of decimating the Bok tight 5 are over for good.
He strikes me as being the type of coach that would hire players in his own image. We will soon see string bean bearded locks running in the back line everywhere.
SB
You are wrong. Matfield was standing in the backline more often than he was playing as a Tight 5 player. He should known enough about backline play.
JW it aint gong to happen as Rassie has far too much common sense for that.
Franco Mostert, according to Wikipedia, is 112 kg and six foot six. that i s about as light as Rassie will go. At least Mostert gets stuck in for eighty minutes unlike the pap wee matfiled.
Oh brother ... haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaaa!!!
This is going to be entertaining.
I feel sorry for the Bulls. They are going to go through another dry patch under this idiot.
I can see into the future ... it's a hidden talent I have ... empty stadiums ... empty coffers ... players leaving in droves ... and more than likely the Buls will be in search of another coach by end of 2019.
My condolences, BlueBok!!

There is a consolation - Zondagh is a top class rugby man and he will keep Matfield as a coach outside of rank stupidity.

Unlike Matfield - Du Toit played his part as a lock in Tight 5 battles and Matfield did not. Playing at loosie Du Toit is obviously more visible outside of the Tight 5 and the reference you made to him is spurious nonsense.
Pakie lardy John, Matfiled and Fourie coached the Boks when PDV was the figurehead coach.
Matfiled has been coached by many coaches and has years of experience . He knows exactly how not to play lock and how to make as ass of oneself in the backline. Matfiled is a shrewd operator. You have to be to fool the good Dr Mozzzzz.
Fourie was as a rugby player a genius and also knows the game . As i said i am cautiously optimistic that the Bulle will improve. Time will tell.
Give wee matfiled a chance he is an old pro with many years of non playing experience. hahahahhahahahaha
What has Matfield achieved as coach? Who knows? At first glance it looks like buggerall but is it really like that?
Remember the days of old Snorre? There was this never-ending rumour that the players were coaching themselves. If true, I would guess Air Matfield would have been part of this coaching.
Anyhow .... nothing really to base my feeling on, but I have some serious doubts on his coaching abilities.
During that period they had Gold written all over them. Not surprising then that Peter tried to remove both Gold and Muir during the 2010 EOYT. Remember that? There was clearly a power struggle within the coaching setup.

You are wrong again. Nobody bar perhaps Beeno queried Matfield's great ability in line-outs and his other achievements attained in the prime years as a rugby player. However, his return to test rugby in 2014 and 2015 was a disaster and his performances - also in line-outs - became a joke in poo taste, H should never have returned to play rugby after retirement.
He was strictly a reputation player that should not have been near the Springbok team,
