Bekker cant take a season of South African rugby. He cant probably only play 15-20 games per season max. He went to Japan to make his career longer, but he may pop up next year trying to get back into the team.
At one point he was the best lock in the world. His form dips though when the Stormers play him into the ground.
He is a player that should have been centrally managed to limit his game time, and one of the bok core players that should never play in the Curry Cup

Welcome. Bekker is ten times the player Matfield is at present. Meyer prefers Matfield because of the pally-pally principle. Bekker is a hard player in all facets of the game - Matfied is a show pony.
Andries bekker is 2,08 meter and weighs 120 kgsMatfield is 2.01 meter and weighs 106 kgs
Its like comparing an over-aged kid (Matfield) with a man (Bekker) I am afraid in this case.

And Bekker decided to piss off to Japan and signed himself, by his own choice, into a contract that stops him from playing international rugby. He made the choice at a time that he was very much in the the Bok frame as the first choice no 5 lock. He decided, and made it clear that he was doing it to prolong his professional rugby career. He never said that he did it to prolong his Bok career.

The biggest joke is wee victor never gets injured because he avoids the physical stuff like the plague. Some lock. Now they try ansd say Bekker who gets stuck in is injury prone. Bwahahahhahahahaha hilarious stuff!
Well said Nonga it is a disgrace wee victor was ever chosen before Bekker. Mad as hatters for sure.
Given the level of injuries accross the board one can only conclude some thing is very seriously amiss and that includes over playing players and no central contracting system.
Our player managment is a disgrace. As is picking a 38 year old never has been like wee victor.
I asked the oaks here the other day (who are matfiled groupies) how playing the 106 kg Marcell Coetzee would effect the Bok scrum. There is a deafening silence as the oaks realise they are stuffed on the issue. The ONLY answer is a 106 kg stringbean like victor scrumming at lock will negatively effect ther Bok pack. It's game set and match!

Piss poor argument - Matfield 7 years ago was good - today he is poor, In 2011 Bekker was better than Matfield and that is a fact. Today Bekker is better than Matfield and that is a fact too. We are talking of the present - not the past.

I do not give a flying shit how "good" Bekker was in 2012, he was piss poor when it came to fitness. What is the use of he can never be relied upon to last? Fact is that he had to run away to Japan, just to be able to keep on playing for a few years longer. Had he stayed behind, he would surely have been out injured again by now, and we would have needed somebody else to carry his load........ again.

Bekker had so many injuries he ended up playing like Goosen...avoiding full contact. He could have been a dominating lock. Sadly it never happened.

He was kept out of the Bok team when in his prime by wee victor. The mind boggles!I still recall his run down the touchkline with Nokwe! We have superb locks. Etzebeth, Flip, Du Toit, Willemse, Loodt and Jaque Du Plessis.

Du Toit is not very strong....Loodt is a big ordinary lomp ou, du Plessis is too big for a flank and not a proven lock. These guys have all been written up big time, but where's the beef?

when both are at their peak, bekkers not even in the same book let alone on the same page matfield.
bekker is a lot like goosen, a mountain of potential that is to fragile to mine.
i dont agree with matfields return, but with lady elizaebth away giving birth to his food babay and stephanie cashing in his vouchers for free day spas in 2014, meyer has dug himself a hole by wasting the last two years and tapping into SAs locking talent.
he now needs matfiled for what only matfield can bring, but he dosent need wackie bakkie.
lood is getting his first test now something which is longover due, but i get a feeling that getting picked against the welsh dosent translate to getting picked against the top teams aka wallys and the mighty mighty All Blacks.
japan was the best move for bekker though, a place where his rugby fitness can be maintained, but with less physicality.

Where is the beef. Are you serious. Lood is 125 kg . Willemse 127kg. Du Toit close to 120 kg and ditto Du Plessis.Bakkies used to come in at 120 kg. Bekker120 kg. Accordng to wee victor his best playing weight ranged from 106 to 108kg. Spot the one with th e lack of beef.
Loodt, Willemse Etzebeth, Du Toit Du Plessis are the envy of the rugby world. Where do you find younsters like this.Come on Dr Moz time to wise up on locks!!!

Around 2009 Bekker showed how good he was. In a tour to New Zealand many of the public compared him to Colin Meads- who I think was the best All Black lock ever.
At the time Matfield said that Bekker was the best lock in the world. He was one of the few locks that could play at 5, but also at 4 to international standard.
5 is a more specialist lock position like Matfield, Mark Andrews etc

Bekker was wasted. Like Bissie being denied by Smit. Smit and wee victor ran the Boks while ou pdv was the comedian and collected his check each month.
Another wasted talent was Deon Fourie. Oh the stupidity of it all. The lack of insight. Too many saSUE types around in SA rugby by far!! bwhahahahahaha
