What a match....sorry Tuks, not today.
Maties Skop Gat!
The Maties have three players the Stormers need badly at flyhalf, center and full back. The latter is a younger brother of P-S du Toit.
Maaik, tonight yhat 12 made a huge difference...by the looks anx effort he reminds of Dewaldt Potgieter who played flank for the Bools, but at 12, he has got the distribution and pin point kick of a FH....and Maties as a team, defended like titans.
Glad one of my teams still wins trophies.
I think Doc Craven phrased it the first time: If Maties does well in rugby, WP tends to do well as well..... and he said it back in the days when Ikeys every now and then tends to produce a competitive team. Do they still play rugby in Cape Town? (of rook hulle dalk te veel dagga?)
Welgedaan Maties.
Maties buy up talent. Rugby not so important at UCT
Another dangerous tackle for me decided the match.Tuks were dynamite 2nd half throughout the season and the momentum had definitely shifted till that tackle.
I would include that left wing for Maties too in for the Stormers,their scrummie too has been on the ball and always has plenty of time,maybe not so much in the step up to professional rugby though.
OK lets summarize
Who should the Stormers look out for in next years Super Rugby squad:-
* Anton du Toit
* Murnier Hartzenberg
* Chris Smi
* Jordan Chait
* Johan van Niekerk
Like other SA teams the Stormers is bound to lose a number of established Springboks next year and they would have to look at replacements. We must bear in mind that they in the past looked at the Maties Varsity Cup squad to draw players from - the latest being Stander at flyhalf,
There is one really outstanding player that was the key to the success of the Maties successes this year and that was Jordan Chait at flyhalf. Other than Pollard I have seen no flyhalfs on Super Rugby Level this year that even remotely showed the acumen, ball skills and reading of the game this youngster has shown.
And then there are of course Chis Smit at center - better than any Super Rugby 12 than we have seen this year on Super Rugby level.
