This idea that you have to rely on players you have coached before is very depressing. Bringing back Victor, or considering Spies before he had any track record captaining the Bools, just suggests there  isn't a level playing field.

I mean how long does it take to establish a rapport with a player.....after all Meyer must know all the leading SA players.

Get the manne that deserve to be there, get to know them better.....treat them like adults. There is no need for a security blanket of Bools.

Meyer is beginning to alarm me. Speaking of Loubcher as the backline coach and now bringing back pap matfield. victoria has appaently lost bulk and is probably now only 100 kg. No sane person would d osuch things?

Man these these two blunders rank with anything the nutter pdv ever came up with!!

Agreed gentlemen, Meyer has me worried with all these things I'm hearing. Looks like he wants to bring the Bools blue-print of skop, jaag en donder to the Boks, we all know what happened there...

Agreed Moz, Meyer is starting on the wrong foot. First is was all the Bulls coaching staff, now its all the Bulls players and worse than that retired Bulls players - get a grip Meyer. Choose the best players. Forget Matfield, play Etzebeth and Bekker. Forget du Preez, play Hougaard - end of

C'mon Beeno, no need for insulting a great player by calling him Victoria, it's not as if he's asking to play again and it's not his fault Meyer wants him back in...

nj great in your mind -  a disaster for the Boks in mine. No ways should he come back! How he ever fooled so many is the mystery!

Again, don't have a go at Victor because Meyer wants him back, he can't help it if a coach is a bit obsessed with him....and to be honest, I SERIOUSLY doubt he'll come out of retirement.

Secondly, a disaster for the Boks?? Are you serious? Or are you just over emotional with hatred for the idea of him returning? I hope it's the latter because otherwise you're the one trying to fool us with your rugby "expertise".

Objectively I think Meyers hand has been forced to pick what he knows because of the crap schedule he has to work with. So he reverted back to type. That said, I would like to see him doing some serious clearing out and start backing the youngsters. We have some fantastic young talent which I believe can do the job, we stick with these guys. PDV proved that experience don't always counts and so did England. So why bring back Du Preez, Matfield, Bakkies etc.

Maybe he thinks he can get more out of them that PDV managed to.

Bok fans don't deserve the crap that's unfolding, just when you think the nightmare is over another one sticks it's head out.....why? Is Matfield and FDP going to take the Boks to the next WC?...if this isn't rediculous then it's just dumb! I'm rapidly losing faith in Meyer.

Everybody jumping on the bandwagon about Matfield should rather make sure of what has been said.

www.supersport.com/rugby/springboks/news/120416/Matfield_to_fulfill_crucial_Bok_role

Former Springbok lock and SuperSport analyst Victor Matfield will play a massive part in the upcoming series against England, whether it is as player or a consultant in the Springbok side.

Bok coach Heyneke Meyer never confirmed that he was talking to Matfield to make a return and come out of retirement against the English, but then again, he never denied it either.

The bottom line is that if the Bok mentor feels he has enough firepower, both in the setpiece and leadership, he may not go the route of bringing his most trusted lieutenant back into the game, but if not he will look at whatever options are available to ensure a test series victory against the English.

Meyer on Sunday told journalists that Matfield would be working with all the lineout jumpers at the Super Rugby franchises, and that he planned to use him as a consultant, but would not be drawn into specifics when asked if he would return as a player.

Victor will definitely play a big part in helping with structures and going around the country to help the lineout jumpers in South Africa,” Meyer said.

Clearly there are guys here with superior knowledge of what is happening and also how the whole coaching thing should work.  It is with amazement that I read the wisdom here without it being applied at SARU.  Why is it that these experts are not taken seriously and appointed as consultants to the people at SARU?

That I may differ from the likes of the dead muzo, a guy with a number for a name and some other is of no consequence.  However I would rather wait and see if the proof is in the pudding or if the newly appointed coach is just a puppet.  Clearly he has an impressive record of coaching in contrast to his predecessor who was not all that bad in the end either.  Strange, eccentric and funny-clown-like but not that ineffective.

My advice would be for you guys to hold your horses a bit – or if you are so convinced in your expertise, write a letter to SARU and offer yourselves, your time and expert advice as a service to the county instead of sitting in the cheap seats criticising for all it’s worth.

I do trust that those who are such determined critics have the experience and proof to back-up your claims and to substantiate your expert opinion.

as an All Black supporter, i was a little worried when i heard SARU appointed meyer, but hearing these rumours of matfield and du preez (both legends) coming back has left me with wry grin on my face.
i agree with most of the sentiments here, etzeben and hougaard are the obvious future, so why not give these stars a chance to shine??? meyer is prob looking for immediate success and feels more it is more probable achieving it with the old guard, but at the end of the day, meyer still needs a chance to actually put his plan into place and we can judge accordingly with his results.

@lunatic,
forums like these are designed so that passionate folks like all of us here can voice our 2cents, nothing wrong with that now is there???  so if some want to voice concern or disdain at individuals, teams or even bloggers. each to their own, aye???, :)))

Nice t osee ou windpomp clicking immediately with his d=ss baord ally as arranged no doubt.

WAs t othe facts well on the radio this morning it was stated tha tMeyer could bring back matfield depending on the injury to locks situation - this will be the pretext. Wha tinjuries - tests are stil lsome time away. bekker has no tbeen sent home so how serious is his injury. Etzebeth may play on Saturday. Who is seriousl yinjured tha the needs to prepare the ground like this?

I hear victor has lost an alarming amount of mass. As he was only a meagre 107 kg at his best i gues she mus tcurrentl ybe dow to 100 kg - the same weightas wee brussouw but more strung out!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahaha

Lunatic I guess you would have also said dont criticise ou pdv as he knows better. Well lunatic pleased be advised we will crit the coach when he goes wrong. Do you think loubscher is the bes tbackline coach available to the Boks in the entire world as Meyer is claiming?

What is a "windomp" and a d=ss board?  Been around the world an have never come across these.  Backline coach is in all probability been selected as part of a team effort.  Whether or not he is the best is clearly a debate one can have.  However what would be your suggestion?  Is your suggestion available to work with the coach?  If so, why not write an e-mail to SARU.  I am of the opinion that we in South Africa take things to easily we should complain through the correct structures more often.  To post ludicrous name-calling here will achieve nothing.

I would however strongly advise you to replace your keyboard before sending such an email as the inconsistent keystrokes may make you look a bit like nut when sending an email to the likes of the management of SARU.  Maybe send an enema-mail that guy on the gravy train with the cushy job is a great starting point - send it to Erusmus.

Apart from being a lunatic who are you on ss board.

lunatic writing to SARFU is a waste of time. These oaks installed ou pdv as bok coach after all.

Some time ago I got hold of Jurie Roux,  who is an acquaintance, and tried to persaude him to start up the fans forum on Sarugby.net - the offical home of the springboks  - but to no avail.

What works better is mass protest on rugby websites which they monitor. Look what happened to Bryce Lawrence he nz ref of the year. Huge outcry and behind the scene actions were taken  -result he was booted off the international elite refs panel! Too few people write in and they take no notice whatsoever.

As for my spelling your comment again reveals your petty ss board heritage.  We have a lunatic on board. Bwahahahahhaha  -a hearty welcome lunatic!
