Meyer at it again

Meyer is a funny bunny - his actions are always as predictable. In a statement he said that Botha Is out of rugby for the year and he is contemplating calling up another player into the squad to replace him. However, he then went on to say that we have a strong poo of loosies in the squad and went on to name them as Spies, Louw, Coetzee, Alberts, Kolisi and Labuschagne. Strong the above with the exception of Louw and Labuschagne is one thing they are not. Meyer cannot see - * that Spies is performance wise a zero, that Alberts is not a proper loosie (rather a lock without the necessary speed to be a loosie) and that Coetzee throughout Super 15 and in the last two tests was under-performing; * that although Kolisi did well in certain aspects of the game - but is deficient in especially the breakdowns; and * the reason for the problems encountered in breakdowns are the result of the players he picked at loosie. Spies is of no value in that component of the game, Alberts is a lock rather than a loose and is not speedy enough to get to breakdown points quickly enough to be effective) and that Coetzee plays zero roll in breakdown situations. Meyer can talk as much as he likes - but the players he selects (other than Louw and Labuschagne and to a lesser degree Botha) ) are never going to be effective in breakdown ball recovery. Why I said Botha to a lesser degree I basically take into account what happened in Super 15 this year - where Labuschagne ws much more successful in that component of the game than Botha - but I rate all three higher than any of the rest in that component of the game. The three are also better all-round players in ball-carrying. linking n attack with the backline and creating and scoring tries themselves. What is evident Is that Meyer will never consider not selecting Spies, Alberts and even Coetzee - but would continue being disgruntled with breakdown ball recovery. That makes him such an enigma - if he select the proper players - the breakdown problems will in the main be solved, if he does not the problems will persist because of the players he himself selects..
