I am still optimistic about Meyer.
Most of his dubious selections are not first choice Springboks and not likely to play.
The Bulls are the only South Africa side to have won the SuperXV, having done this 3 times in the last 7 years.
If he does select them as first choices then that will be more concerning
Some of the players below are not great, but then again neither are the other players who could have been choosen in their place.
Kirchner- Likely that Willie LeRoux starts, but if Kirchner starts then we really need to be concerned.
Kirchner was solid last year for the Boks and one of the better players. I would prefer Lambie as the back up fullback, with Kirchner currently in 3rd place. I can't see anyone else in SA at the moment apart from Willie making the number15 their own. He is also a player of colour which is a requirement of squad selection.
Basson- Not much difference between him and Mvovo, so could have gone either way.
Basson is the top CurryCup try scorer of all time, and has also finished first in the SuperXV for the most tris scored. Give him oppertunities and he will score. He is also good at Kick and chase which is a major part of the SA game.
de Jongh- Not a good option. However again not many people from other SuperXV teams screaming out for the position. I would have preferred Sadie or Ebershom. Could be a quota selection influencing his selection over Ebershom.
Morne- with Goosen injured the standard of flyhalf play from Sa was terriable this year.
Morne is the form South African flyhalf- even with all of his limitations.
Lambie was piss poor the whole year and the Sharks backline was best in the 2 games he was not at 10.
Pienaar- A qualty player, but does not take on the opposition around the fringes of rucks. Can also cover pole kicking.
du Preez- I am not sure what his form is like. Perhaps the easy life in Japan and not being overplayed will good for him. He is only 30. Given that he was once the best 9 in the game, perhaps he may prove to be worthwhile. He also knows the Meyer game plan and how to implement it.
STEENKAMP- Fat Bastard. Did get Sa player of the year award in 2010, but got hoplessly overweight in France.
J.Kruger- Solid in the lineouts. I would not have chose him especially as he is going overseas.
Flip, F.v/d Merwe- A good forward w
Alberts- A quality player who brings mongrel to the pack.
