I see Meyer's win ratio is quoted at 58%. Well, for the record the Boks have played 15 matches under Meyer and won 10......so his win ratio is actually 66.66%. But there were also two draws....so his loss ratio is a very respectable 20%.We lose one match in five under Meyer. - And if you split the draws ....his corrected win ratio is 73.33%. - These are simply facts. Gnaw on that you Meyer bashers.

Mozart The win ratio last year was 58% - winning 7 out of 12 games played. Draws in international competitions like the RC is meaningless and detrimental. In that competition we won 2 games out of 6 played and drew 1. That is definitely sub-par. Lets not ignore the fact that two of the much publisized wins was against the Scots. We barely managed to beat them at Murrayfield - we in fact struggled badly against them - a team which was easily beaten by Tonga the very next week. We beat two teams trhat was drastically impacted upon by injuries - Australia and Ireland - in the latter test we struggled through and managed to win by a whisker. That is why figures quoted are so misleading. It depends on the quality of opposition that the teams plays against. our performance against top teams in the ratings - ie teams above no 5 - is really sickening. It is teams that you play in that category that makes a difference - especially in the top 3 where you are supposed to be strength against strength and Meyer's record is at present standing at 25% wins.. Percentages - like thrown around means a winning percentage equalize the opposition to equal in status - namely you say that if a team beats Outer Mongolia in a test it is equal to beating the All Blacks. That is really an utter crap way of looking at teams strengths and weaknesses - in other words it is not even of any consequence in determining success rates against top teams. Percentages means effectively nothing - what makes sense is how the team performs against the higher rated teams in world rugby that speaks volumes. .

Nonsense. Every coach has soft matches. In fact any coach who has led through a RWC has had more than his fair share of soft matches. You guys go on about Meyer's record....it's pretty much par for the course. You treat a draw as if it was a loss, because it suits you......just another example of bias. Meyer hasn't set the house on fire, but we are on a 6 match win streak As Spoony says.....let's see what happens this RC.

Have to agree with Mozart, Meyer deserves loyalty, respect and support.

Moz exactly so. Ou maaaikie and snapster in their bias want to insist on draws being equivalent to a loss! They are it appears a bit mathematically challenged. I dont want to overstate this because they can assess what team has the higher score - but there it stops.

They will not take any note of factors like Morne's abysal kicking form, the FACT that a number of players moved on and the injury count and its beinng Meyers FIRST year.

His win ration in his first year was 58% which is not good enough, we were lucky to achieve that given our intercept escape by Frans against the Argies and our scrape throughs against Ireland, Scotland and England at the end of last year.

And wow Meyer has a 100% record this year against the mighty Italy, Scotland and Samoa!!

Meyer and the Boks were crap last year, we were piss poor against Scotland this year and given the squad my guess is we will lose all four to Oz and NZ

Oh come on Moz.  I always thought you were one of the more cerebally enhanced forum members but this piece of numerical gymnastics is straight out of the flat earthers handbook. You cannot discard or reinterperet unsavoury results in an effort to bolster Meyers ordinary win/loss record and expect to be taken seriously by anyone other than the fawning Meyer fanboys.

Come on Moz. By resurrecting Hasbeeno's infamous "neutral draws" theory from last year, all you've done is given him an excuse to wax lyrical again about complete crappy statistics!

You of all people should know better than that.

With draws you have two options. Option one, which I have chosen, you split the draws and give them half a point. The other way is to leave them out of the denominator. ...so then Meyer has 10 wins out of 13 matches .....or a 76.92 ratio in decided tests. Oops it seems I was a bit conservative. - What Dave and apparently you NZ chappies want me to do is score draws as losses....not good for insight, but still yielding a win ratio of 66.66%.

Thats not true Moz, I don't want you to score wins as loses, i just want you to calculate Meyers WINNING ratio properly by counting the number of matches he has actually WON and dividing that number by the TOTAL number of games he has played.  As you have already conceded, Meyer has WON 10 games from 15 attempts giving him a respectable 66% WINNING ratio. Disregarding the 2 draws or "splitting the difference" equally between the wins and losses ledger as a way to artificially inflate this 66% figure is a dishonest endeavour. You cannot expect these conclusions to be taken seriously by the numerically literate.

Seriously Moz and with the greatest of respect,  If Meyer is as great a coach as you proclaim, he wouldn't need fanboys to proselytise on his behalf, conjuring up objectionable arithmetic and imaginative qualifiers. His success would be self evident and undeniable in spite of creative reinterpretations by his partisan apologists, not because of them. Besides, its still early days for Meyer. I would expect his current 66% WINNING ratio to steadily rise, especially if SA persevere with regular mid year matches against Scotland, Italy and Samoa.

Actually Nuke I don't think he is a great coach, but I think some of the flak he is getting is a bit extreme. Also I follow your pure "win ratio" argument....but I'm a bit unclear how we distinguish between 10 wins, three losses and two draws....vs ....ten wins and 5 losses. I know which I'd rather have, and there has to be some way to reflect that in a success stat. But I have to assume only a pure number will suffice, so I'll stick with a 20% loss ratio....that way everybody is happy.

All this mathematical gymnastics is meaningless - as meaningless as Meyer is as a coach. To my mind he remains a crap cosch with serious deficiencies insofar as - * team selection: and * game plan determination are concerned We are four days away from the start of the RC - where we come up against top or higher rated teams in world rugby. Anything other than a convincing win against Argentina would be an extremely bad sign - matter of fact a win by less than 10 points on Saturday can be construed as a sign that Meyer is failing SA Rugby worse than expected and the Springboks will go down badly in the tests played later in the year. If we lose against the AB's, Wallabies, France and Wales - their is one suggestion that should be made - he should be fired because of rank stupidity in team selection.
