While looking for the Cheetahs team - I saw that Meyer made some comments as to loosies and some other team issues.    Insofar as loosies are concerned I am translating and summerzing his comments as follows:-

Brussow

Meyer said he has nothing personal against Brussow and has spoken to him about the issue.   He expressed the opinion that as many of the tests played will be refereed by NH referees - who will be averse to Brussow's style of play and award too many penalties against him - he would be a bad risk for selection.  He also asked in place of whom Brussow  should be considered.

Preferred Loosies

Meyer's preferred loosies are Louw and and Alberts - that is according to the report.   Personally there is in my opinion sound reasons for his preference for Louw - especially if the NH referees situation is borne in mind.   Insofar as Alberts is concerned - there are real question marks.   Alberts was very ordinary in 2012 and in some ways below par and definitely below par in the two games he played in this year.   A lock standing in as a loosie is the best way to describe that one.  Too slow to make an impact at all.

Comments on Botha

Meyer is favourably impressed by Botha and said he played some good rugby and his silence on Labuschagne indicates that he does not rate him at all.    We can all agree that in the few games Botha played in he had a positive impact on the Bulls team - but one has to bear in mind that he has had comparative limited game time  since the dolt Ludeke apparantly does not realize his true value in the Bulls team.   On the issue of Labuschagne one can only wonder whether a move to the Bulls would not suddenly change Meyer's attitude to him.     All-in-all if Labuschagne and Botha is strictly compared the former is a much more accomplished player than the latter at this stage of their careers.

Comments on Willie le Roux

Meyer is sorry that he did not see him performing in the training camp - as he was injured and did not participate in the field sessions.   Quaint excuse for non-selection - in this modern era there are videos to watch and analyze and study - but Meyer is apparently not on that level of game study as yet.  He is dead set on selecting the way-below par Kirchner at full back.

From what I have read about Meyer's comment thus far this week - there is clear evidence that we cannot expect any progress from him insofar as team selection is concerned.   Matter of fact - he is absolutely set in his ways and his game plan - so easily read by opposing teams - can only spell disaster in this years Championship.

The article I am referring to is now on the home page and I want to quote the following extract from it:-

"The flanks I pick are also good in the lineouts. I honestly feel there is no-one who can be dropped in order to find a spot for him."

Meyer must think we are all a lot of idiots - if he thinks he can make a statement like that and think people will accept it.   His loosies for last year did not show anything in line-outs - matter of fact that is complete drivel on his part.

Alberts  :               11 matches         Won 7   -     Lost 1

LouW   :                 6 matches          Won 2  -      Lost 0

Alberts never take a line out ball in the last two Super 15 games as well - so the spook is out of the bottle.   What is worse is that Alberts made 18 tackles in the last two games he played in and missed 6 - a tackle miss rate of 25%.   And as for ball carrying the following stats that Mozart made such a noise about are really indicative of his abilities in this regard:-

Tests last year

Against Egland  June tests -26 carries - 114 meters - 4,7  mpc

                          EOYT       -  3 carries  -     4 meters - 1,3  mpc

Against Scotland                -  6 carries  -    40 meters - 6,6 mpc

Against Ireland                   -  4 carries  -      5 meters - 1,25 mpc

Champisonship

Wallabies and All Blacks    - 23 carries  -    40 meters - 1,8 mpc

Argentina                              18 carries  -    56 meters - 3,1 mpc

It is clear that against weaker teams Alberts look like he has about an average capacity - against stronger teams the capacity is minimal.  Overall his capacity is 3,5 meters per carry.

Super 15 this year

Alberts carried the ball 11 times for a meter gain of 10 meters - less than one meter per carry.

Extremely poor in the latter two matches.

If line out performance is required from the Loosies than the above is scandalously bad.    Can anyone take anything seriously - when uttered by Meyer?  I myself thinks his statements are jokes in bad tatse
