Jerome
Meyer has far too much patience with the players he is "familiar" with and far too little with the younger players. However, to be quite frank I do believe that JJ should never have played at 13 - he is a natural wing and only moved to 13 when joining the Bulls.
Like is the case with Pietersen I have my doubts about JJ at center - he will learn nothing from the present coaching staff - but may develop capacity if he was wit another franchise. I think there are deficiencies in his game and he would have to develop further to be a consideration. The same applies to a player like Taute.
In the case of Goosen - he is out because of the injury issue that plagued him in June. Meyer is very loyal to Morn Steyn and strictly speaking the choice was between Steyn and Goosen. I am sure that Steyn is on thin ice and he may be out sooner rather than later.
Serfontein is definitely not likely to be dropped and I think Pollard and De Allende are naturally gidf ed players - whom I also do not think will get the chop from Meyer.

What?? Oh please!!
Meyer thought he was clever converting an outside back to 13.
He tried it with Taute as well and it didn't work.
JJ should have learnt his trade as a center at club level. Expecting this average outside back to suddenly perform at 13 in a test match is absurd.
He had more than enough time to develop at 13 but learnt nothing in the 2 seasons he played along side Jean. How is that possible?
Answer ... He's just plain useless.
That's unfortunately Meyer for you. He doesn't know his arse from his elbow. He can't see talent if it kicked him the head.
Selecting the ancient Gurthro and Bakkies to the squad makes that clear enough ... not to mention persisting with the useless Pienaar.
Goosen is just another bozo not worthy of Bok selection. Like Kolisi.
Goosen is too damn fragile, plus he shys away from contact because of it. Sorry but he's not worth the bother.
Lambie is in any case streets ahead of fragile Goosen ... and he can cover 15.
Goosen and JJ deserved to be dropped. They had their shot and showed us all that they're just not Bok material.
It took Meyer long enough to figure this out. I hope he sticks with it and leaves these chumps out ... poimanently.

actually goosen is a better bet in any position than lambie. like i said lambie is just a very ordinary player, nothing he does stands out as being even good, just okay. hes a regulation pawn to b3 player. goosen has more pace, a better pass and better boot than lambie, he just isnt very intelligent as a player and doesnt know how to orchestrate attacks away from a set script like at the cheetahs. even in 2012 he was just a link while the outside backs did the hard yards running great angles to get those defenders to open up. he would make a far better 15 than lambie and i even thought in 2012 that it would be better for him. this is coming from a guy that has heavily slated goosen so no fanboy stuff. i would however select lambie ahead of goosen at 10 because he is alot more stable in contact, not a great defender at all but he can withstand so much more.
JJ? JJ offered more pace for the attacking game meyer wanted but nothing more. if anything taute should have been given more time. in 2012 he ran some great lines and tried hard to communicate with the bone heads jean and goose. he is the only other 13 that had smarts to read the defence and run good lines. but goosen kept gifting him hospital passes and failed to pick him up in good positions even once! His defence was mostly really good... even affecting turnovers for. So i say taute was dumped too early though de jongh was always the best bet at home for a natural 13, why he was dumped after an excellent 2012 EOYT where he stood up to wave after wave of England attacks is beyond me. JJ simply wasnt worth the gamble. JP at 13 also wasnt worth the game. at this point in time its too late to start over with taute. its fourie as backup and de jongh as a starter. we need a solid natural 13 and de jongh will thrive in the more enterprising bok setup. and we know that he can tackle well, so that will be a relief.

Jerome, Goosen has definitely not been cut off. I fully support Meyers approach here. Goosen is not ready for test rugby. A time in France will allow him time to mature and get his conditioning right. Meyer has a very high regard for Goosen's talent.
Personally, I think JJ has had enough time at center. It was worth a shot but has not panned out as well as hoped. However the experience gained will in fact make him a better wing. I believe he will make a very good test wing and needs to return now to his best postion. Bulle can play Jan and Small Smith. It's the obvious thing to do.

In response Goosen had a limited amount of time starting at fly half for the boks compared to Lambie or Steyn. Meyer established Goosen to start in the RC, during the process he played very well in some areas but was dropped to the bench ever since. around 3 times Goosen has started in the lineup and to me that is a indication that he has been dropped too early to the bench and there is not a legitmate reason why. There is no doubt that there was a lack of patience for Goosen to evolve as a starting player.
JJ making a transition to wing would make no difference in his general play and it doesn't solve the defensive issue or the other factors. JJ was a great support runner that plays similar to Johan Sadie at outside centre. There are a few attributes that JJ is good at and if he had to improve defensively he would be a much better centre. JP pietersen was no better than JJ but I think De Allende is the real deal at 13 at this point.

you need to look for signs of quality. Meyer even changed the Boks play to accomodate him more so we saw less balls from 9 to 7 and 8. He still failed. Watch and learn... in MOrn'es first 3 tests he saved the 1st Lions test with a crucial try saving tackle, nailed the winner in the 2nd test and by his 4th scored all 31 points against New Zealand (1try, 1 conversion, 8 penalties)... what has Goosen done? cost us two tests. you dont have time to wait for players to settle in.
Schalk, Jun, Butch, Morne, Du Preez, Fourie, Bakkies, Joubert, Big Joe, Smit, Habana, Frans, Arno Botha, Pollard, Januarie and so many more are players who made an impact from the start. The players who we wait for to produce the goods never come good... think Lambie, gaffie, pienaar, mvovo, spies, kruger, jj, jantjies, goosen, bekker, olivier, nokwe, alberts, jean, bissie to name a few.

Certain players have the x factor and you can see this right off. They hit the ground running at test level and go on to becomes greats. The Habana's of the world.
Other players have the potential to develop into a quality test player. You can however see this right from the start of their international career. Those are the boys you give a little extra time to find their feet and settle in. The Spies' of the world.
Goosen doesn't have any of these qualities. He is an over rated chump who will never amount to anything other than an average club player. Test rugby is definitely NOT for him.
We need a class act at 10 ... not another mediocre player like Goosen or Morne who were merely selected to make up the numbers.
