The Selection is the full joke that we had expected and the passengers are all there.  What we can happen is clear - a quicker than expected back trip to SA and the clubs they play for.
Some of the players have not played for months and they are not match-fit.  Then we have the hospital ward cases and the jokes like the hopeless Willem Alberts, Victor Matfield and Morne Steyn.
I hope Meyer can select a proper team from that lot - but some of the passengers would play and we are going to suffer in games.

I know you're not happy with the squad Mike, some of the selections aren't okay with me either. But it's too late too change anything now, so let's at least give them a chance, maybe Meyer's got a master plan.

Some very good players are not going for various reasons:Kitshoff the best loosehead on display in the Super 15Marcel van der Merwe who can scrum both sides is omitted in favour of Coenie whose scrummaging has been very poor and who has not played for a long time. (Koch was ditched in very dubiuos circumstances which Pieter de Villiers clearly didnt think warranted)
Willemse an ideal lock for NH conditions. Instead we have the useless victor. The loosies are also a problem. Kolisi is a quota player. Alberts has done zip for some seasons now and we could have picked Elstadt or Jaque du Plessis. Louw as the only fetcher now that the excellent Marcell Coetzee is out - very unfortunate he is not in the squad!!!! It would have been great to have a loosie like Kriel in the squad. What an impact player. Opens up new possibilities as to how we play.Faf de Klerk was the best scrummie in the Super 15 but was never given a chance. Rudy Paige is picked before him and Reinach!Given Jessie Kriel can cover 15 as can Lambie was the inclusion of Kirchener necessary. Should Jan or a Vorster or Stockies have goneHow will Fourie go?
One hopes that players who have been out for some time like Vermuelen will come back as well as Lood and Schalk! Defintely not our best side and with a lot of question marks. Experience has been the mantra.

 Here are some revealing comments:

Cape Town - Sharks scrumhalf Cobus Reinach is widely expected to be one of the unlucky players not to be selected when Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer names his Rugby World Cup squad on Friday.

All indications are there that Reinach will be excluded from the squad at the expense of the Bulls’ Rudy Paige.

Reinach was spotted at Sharks training on Thursday, while Paige remained in camp with the Boks.

Meyer is under pressure to meet transformation requirements and according to SARU’s strategic transformation plan, the target for this year’s World Cup is 30% players of colour - which constitutes nine out of the 31-man squad.

Reinach made his Bok debut in last year’s Rugby Championship and now boasts 10 Test caps. He has been on the Springbok bench throughout this year’s international season, with his last Test being the 26-12 win over Argentina in Buenos Aires two weeks ago.

While Paige showed excellent form for the Bulls in Super Rugby, the selection is tough on Reinach.

Paige will go to the World Cup with no Test caps behind his name and questions should be asked about his selection. (Not from oaks being paid to be politically correct!)

If Paige was always going to the World Cup, then why was he not tried during the Rugby Championship? (Exactly!!! Meyer may have been told to up the quota number)

Reinach should then have been released to play for the Sharks, while Paige should have been groomed when the chance was there for him to get a taste of international rugby.

Ruan Pienaar and Fourie du Preez are expected to be other scrumhalves named when Meyer names squad at 18:00 on Friday evening.

While we go on like this refusing to simply pick our best players can we honestly say we deserve to win?

I have no problem with experience - I have a problem with experience without performance.

I'm ok with most of the squad.Yes of course page us a token selection as us lol is. But the ones I feel most sorry  for are Koch and Marcel Coetzee. Surely Coetzee would have  been fit in time for the 3rd round?
1 fetcher.. that's insane!!!Kolisi is a hard worker but is probably more suited to fetching shovels or cleaning  boots than fetching a rugby ball.Brussow... incredibly unlucky

Chip-Ou,  not too much issue with Paige,  but Coenie should not be there,  neither Kolisi and Britzzz!  Him or Strauss,  not both. No problem with Zane either. We could still have sent an equally representative team with more balance.  This isn't purely Meyer's team though.

I have taken alook at the comments on Keo and Supersport. Widespread anger at the selections. Its a devils brew of quotas, poort selections and injuries.
Man its disappopinting. Now we can only hope for the best.

Look at it this way Draad....who is not there who would make a difference to the Boks against the ABs in the semi.....nobody. There isnt one key player who has been left out who now cant make a case for himself in the match 23 .

Perv may not call them Springboks....but then again, I wouldn't exactly call him a Bok fan, so consider the source.

Go Bokke!

Hasbeeno, I'm sure you are greatly relieved at this selection by Meyer. It gives you the excuse you were desperate for if they fail.Somehow I don't think you would have agreed with it no matter who was chosen.I actually think it's about the best Meyer could do. Obviously Meyer saw through Koch's inability to scrum and rightfully kicked him in to touch. Similarly you couldn't have Reinach in there as the 3rd half-back. From his contributions I saw he didn't get anything right although it looks strange Rudy Paige being selected with no test play at all in the build up.Still out of all that the Boks can  field a very competitive 23, however may be found out later in the tournament if they have a bad run with injuries.

Rudy Page seems pretty solid when I have seen him.
His service looks pretty good.
More of a traditional scrumhalf than the small wingers playing at 9 like Reinach, Hougall, Pretorius.
A scrum half needs to firstly have a quick accurate pass, a decent boot and then everything else is a bonus.

Must be Saffex. In my opinion the alternative players you keep harping on about aren't any better than what's been chosen. Lack of depth is the problem.

Lack of proper squad development by Meyer is the problem.  I am seriously disappointed by the selections - Beeno is correct, it is a devil's brew and the only person to be blamed for the present problem is Meyer.
He has a chance of salvaging some of the situation by selecting match day squad - but there are way too many passengers to even come up with a good team overall.

You are the only proven non-supporter of SA sportsmen and your support of a seriously defective team is a joke in capital letters.  I support all SA sportsmen and teams - but reserve the right to express reservations about the selections if they are obviously poor.
I support the team - but am realistic and that is a problem - we are not going to get past the quarterfinals with that lot.

Oh well ... we all expected this conservative, spineless approach.

Meyer has at least been consistent.

Select the garbage and leave the talent behind to dazzle us in the CC.

To suddenly grow a backbone would have been out of character.

He also needed to fill his team with the required quotas which he agreed to and that he's done.

Beast, Kolisi, Paige, JP, Kirschner are all there to keep the masters happy ... just a pity they don't know how to play rugby.

Throw a few unmerited white boys in like Jannie, Malherbe, Coenie, Matfield, Lood, Alberts, Morne Steyn and Pienaar and what you have is a good mix of clowns that'll  bring comic relief for years to come.

I also found it rather entertaining that he actually bothered to select Coenie. It seems he just wanted someone who could scrum down on both sides ... the quality of that scrummager wasn't the issue. He's just there to make up the numbers.

Good luck to Meyer and his Proteas ... they're gonna need it.

Go Japan!!!!

Sadly he could not even get the players of colour right.
Where are Senatla, Sithole, Rhule, Kolbe, Mapoe, Mnisi, Jantjies, Scara, Oupa and Carr.......more worthy than the likes of Mvovo, Kirchner, Jean, Morne, Brits, Matfield, Louw and Alberts
