"The New Zealanders play a game where options are exercised and implemented to the best advantage of their team.   We should not have a game that is so restricted that the opponents knows exactly what to expect."

Mike, do you know what the parts of our usual game are that are so predictable? And do you know what the solution is. No politician speak just straight to the point answer please.

New Zealand punish every mistake we make, if there's a overlap they spread the ball wide if there isn't they kick it. Too many times have we kicked the ball when we should have passed it and vice versa eg. Ellis Park where Morne should have kicked the ball out of the 22 but decided it was on and passed it wide where we eventually conceded a try by Messam. Link up play between the loosies and the backs is poor, Alberts is non-existent in this facet of play. Breakdown/ruck time is also an area of improvement, we have far too many ball carriers and not too many breakdown specialists. Again another facet of play missing from Alberts as I've never seen him enter a ruck or clean one out.
Decision making is sub par as we have always relied on the boot for an answer, but now the modern game supports the attacking team kicking the ball has become increasingly redundant. We need to kick the ball when/where there's space, not try and make space by kicking the ball.

I think you mean kirchner right/ i dont recall that incident. but im talking actual noughts and crosses backline stuff. no "creativity", "have a go" or positive mindset nonsense.

Shezza, kicking the ball is ESSENTIAL to success at test level.  New zealand annually kick more than us. carter kicks more than morne every season. territory is the most important aspect of the game and being able to attack is only a part of the puzzle, not all of it. attacking is not as easy to do as just running it. I want Mike to explain to me exactly how we must improve our attack. no i hate morne and lambie will get us going nonsense.

 Gonso
I will explain to you the essentials of rugby insofar as backline play is concerned - and those include the following:-

*   The halfbacks needs to be able to read the game and take options*   The backline play should never be predictable*   The kicking game should be strategic and not wildly erratic*   Ball skills
Halfbacks
The SA half back combination has been a curse for years.   Morne Steyn stand so deep in the pocket because his reactions are slow and robotic.   He really is clueless about when to kick or when to pass balls - that being mainly the result of him not being able to read games properly and act accordingly.   It i not only Steyn who cmes short in that regard - very few of oiur flyhalfs in fact has that ability.
It is no use to have a flyhalf in the team that is slow in the uptake and slow in decision making.
Predictability
This predictability starts with our half backs and it is carried forward to the inside center who habitually crashball - never trying to draw in defenders and creating space for players outside of him.   Running straight at the first defender is the most we apparently expect from  our centers - no angle running - no imaginative play.
There are serious problems with running lines as well.  Most of our backline players run straight at defenders and not running in a line that draws in defenders.
Kicking Game
Kicking the ball is required in test level - but then it must be of strategic value - not long  donkey kicks down the middle of the field that can be fielded withe ease and is merely a handover of possession.  Aimless kicking is not acceptable - the New Zraland players kick even more often than we do - but their kicking game is precise - the recipient is mostly under pressure when he receives the ball.   In our case the kicking is wild erratic and of minimal value.  We think a long kick is valuable - it is only that if it is correctly aimed and strategic - making lfe very difficult for the catcher. - otherwise it is aimless.  Our kicking game does not meet the requirements refined by the New Zealanders

Ball Handling Skills
This is a problem that persists in SA rugby - the ball handling skills are sub-standard.  Our backline players often enough pass balls to the wrong players and they do not time their passes well.   They use skip passes eliminating overlaps when oridnary passes were called for.
Much is being made of the off-loading abilities of some of our backline players - funny enough those leas6 capable of off-loading balls.    Ball off-loads is a weapon - but out backline players - with extremely rare exceptions seem to be incapable of off-loading value balls
The problem is that our players may have some ideas as to what is required but their skills in delivering is defective.    It is not what is right or wrong with the SA playing style - it has more to do with execution that is seriously flawed.

Cheezer.....oh cheezer what a dumb little prat you are. Morne threw two excellent long passes just outside the 22 resulting in tries by Habana, after excellent work by Louw and Vermeulen. Nobody complains about those.

But then we have Morne passing to JdV to JJ Engelbrecht, who cuts away from his support straight into the arms of Reid and Nonu to get turned and then compounds the issue by missing Nonu in the ensuing play. And it's Morne's fault? Cheezer wash your mouth out.

Mozart
It is seconds before the half time whistle - Morne is in the Springboks  22 and instead of making a relieving kick that would probably be the end of the half - he passed the ball.   Why did he do the dumbest thing seen in rugby for years?  Because he was told in advance not to kick when the Springboks win a turnover.
Morne is the worst flyhalf SA ever had - and that is a fact.  Aside from that exercise in absolute rugby stupidity - he missed 5 tackles in the Ellis Park test - two of which led to tries by the AB's.
Mozart - shut your trap - you are talking your normal BS.

So Mikey...how did you like your Bok 13 Jordaan today. Waaaaahahaha....you sure know how to picke em. Eight tackles made out of 13...and he manages to miss Reid through the outside gap. What an embarrassment....gassed by an 8th man. Game effectively over at that point.
As for your man Lambie, read my mozcroscope on the Welsh test it was uncannily similar today.
So perhaps you should shut your trap before you hurt yourself.

Weasel doesn't understand rugby. As I said he should know when to pass and when to kick, when JJ got turned over which in turn led to Messam's try, Morne could have prevented that if he cleared the ball rather than trying to spread the ball towards JJ. It's hard replying to such arrogant ignoramus.

F du Preez could also have prevented that by not passing to Morne.....but it wasn't his fault. Nor was it Morne's fault. It was the fault of only one player, the guy you passionately backed...JJ. He ran away from his support and didn't beat the tackle or even stand until help arrived.
And by the way....Morne didn't "try to spread the ball towards JJ" , he made a crisp pass to JdV.
You seem to have a poor grasp of what happened and an even poorer grasp of the circumstances....the Boks had to score tries, a mere win was not enough. Couch potato rugby fans like you would be barking at Morne if he had kicked...a disgusting group.

You are a seriously demented liar - I am definitely not a JJ Backer - neither is Chezza one of those.  The whole problem was the fact that instead of making a relieving kick - the dumb and thoughtless Morne Steyn passed the ball - that is a fact.
How you can blame the outside players for that mistake is crazy -  the fact remains Morrne should have made a relieving kick - he was n the best position to do so - but he did not.
Nobody would have moaned if Morne made a kick at that stage and Naas Botha would not have gone ballistic during the break - stating that it was rank stupidity not make a relieving kick.   So one assume Naas is also in that disgusting group you refer to.
Your player assessments are so weird it is not disgusting - it is a crazy hodgepodge of justification of the incredibly stupid and poor players and an attack on players you do not like.

Do I really have to enlighten you on rugby basics? It's the pivot's decision/responsibility to set up play, Morne chose to release the backline rather than clearing the ball. There's a difference between scoring tries and being a complete idiot trying to play the ball from your own 22 when there is no space. You're past it and quite clearly don't understand rugby.

There was plenty of space ....just as much space as when he released the ball and Vermeulen and Louw made their breaks. This was poor execution.....by JJ a player you backed vehemently last year. And if there wasnt space JJ shouldn't have stepped inside away from his support.

You seem to suffer from age discrimination....are you a racist as well?

I didn't JJ vehemently at all, so you can fuck off with you're continuous lying weasel. I backed him over De Jong who was the worst center in Super 15 last year and I also blame Morne for Barretts try at Ellis Park. There wasn't space, New Zealand had more defenders marking JJ and De Villiers than there was Bok attackers.
That last sentence just show's how much of a snake you are, pathetic. Also quite funny coming from someone who lived through Apartheid and probably said or did nothing against it.

Hmmm...anti de Jongh. Well that sounds consistent, doesn't it?  Actually I never 'lived through apartheid" I left in 1973 as soon as I graduated. But what is it you are biased against, Race? Or are you a homophobe, do girls scare you or are you just anti liberal.  It's clear you have a raging problem with older chaps...but it rarely stops with one thing when you are a bigot. And you are exactly that....a bigot who cant argue by reason.

And arguing by trying to humiliate someone is reason? I am the least bit prejudiced against anyone, you trying to label me as such just goes to show how lowly you are. Pure and utter scum. I'd suggest not replying to me again, rather not deal with your bullshit anymore.

Get it into your thick skull - the passes Steyn made to Louw and Vermeulen was NOT in his own 22 and did not happen seconds before the half time siren was about to go off.  You still do not recognize the rank stupidity displayed by Morne Steyn in that case - you must be the greatest dunce in the world in rugby observation
