#MissUniverse2019 goes to Miss South Africa!

Sunday 8 December saw the crowning of the 68th Miss Universe at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. 

The three-hour show was hosted once again by award-winning comedian, Steve Harvey alongside actress and former beauty queen Vanessa Lachey, and saw performances by Fifth Harmony member, Ally Brooke. 

After wowing the judges and fans throughout the competition Zozibini managed to swoop the title, taking over from Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray. 

Zozibini is the third South African to win the Miss Universe crown. The first was Margaret Gardiner in 1978, followed by Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in 2017.

She is also the first Miss Universe to wear the brand-new "Power of Unity" crown which is said to be worth R73 million.

Yes I saw them live at the Mumford & Sons concert in Cape Town a few years ago. Don't know their albums but will check them out later this evening.

In the meantime SA is in chaos.   We are likely to have a situation where we will not have electricity for up to 12 hours a day for the foreseeable future.    I am afraid that the situation is out of control.    So why moan about something less serious - we should all be moaning about the fact that SA is going down fast.   

*   SAA is under Business Rescue Management in other words bankrupt

*   PRASA is under Administration in other words bankrupt

*   ESKOM should be under Business Rescue Management in other words bankrupt.

Not beyond saving, but it sure is difficult to stay positive. 

And then they BS everyone as to what the real reasons for the power outages are...and the populace swallows it...

Let me put it bluntly - Afriforum threatened  to approach the Courts to put SAA under Business Rescue and before that could happen the SAA Board decided to put the company under Business Rescue,   The reason for that was that the Board and not the Court will then be able to identify the Company responsible for the implementation of the Rescue   process.

At this stage what is clear is that SAA is in debt for about R40 billion and is losing money on  a daily basis - so the debt is rising rapidly,   

The Business Rescue process allows for -

*    negotiations for settlement of the debt and deal with a  process how  debts should  be settled and how money due to SAA should be  recovered -  eg Zimbabwe owes SAA close to R1 billion in ticket sales not paid to SAA;

*    a recovery plan for SAA and if that is considered not possible in view of poor management and bribery and corruption - which caused the demise of SAA anyway - the Business Rescue  Operator can then start disposing of the assets through sale or for a takeover of the Company by another airline or operator.   

In the end I think SAA will remain in  name only, but the airline will be operated by a private owner - not by the Government.

Shocking and sadly that is all that Africa has achieved in each and every country since the so called liberation struggle came to power - corruption, crime, rape, unemployment and the total collapse of existing infrastructure.
