.....and will die by the boot. If he can't kick the goals, his whole game will erode. We saw signs of a confidence problem yesterday.
In a way it's ironical because his tackling was superb again and he was quite elusive when he decided to run. These aspects of his game are actually still improving. But his kicking choices were off. Not the attempted drops, which were clearly dictated by the state of the game and our inability to crack the defence, rather the tactical kicking. That said if that rolling ball Foden saved went into touch, the same crowd that booed would have been cheering.
What bothered me was the hesitancy as to whether to kick or run.....signs of a player not confident in his choices. And the one or two wasted kicks straight down the pike.
So why didn't Meyer bring on Jantjies to replace a struggling player. Obviously because he has zero confidence in him winning the game. With the worst win ratio in the S15 and a 30% missed tackle stat, who can blame him. Jantjies was there to come on in the last quarter, if we had a big lead.
My guess is it might have been different if Lambie was available. With Goosen hurt and still learning, that is the obvious place to go for a replacement, if needed.
But Morne has had the iron nerve to kick a long one to clinch a Lions series. That's bottle and damn few have it.
