Since the RWC started Morne has attempted 57 tackles and made 54....for a success rate of 95%. The last tackles (two) he missed were against Samoa. The only other tackle he missed in living memory was  Toby Faletau once in the Welsh game.

This is a spectacular tackling performance, especially if you consider that attacking his channel has been the supposedly  go to strategy for our opponents. Again this weeked, with Manu being shifted away from Jean, this is being touted by Morne's critics.

Do you guys seriously think Carter or the Quaalude are superior defensively? Think again.

Interesting stat there Moz! I noticed that Morne made a couple of big tackles against England. He also got his backline going on a few occasions. There are just a lot of people that are anti-Morne, no matter what he does.

Mozart, precisely why I always talk about fans / supporters being subjective.  And I think to a degree we all are guilty at times.  This notion that Morne is a weak link is bullshit and has allways been.  Hougaard did not have a great game, but with him and Morne that 9-10 channel is well protected.

Thanks for the statistics..

Agree I have always felt Morne makes his tackles But that is not the essence of the question gentlemen. They are tageting the gainline. Manu to drive at Morne and breach the advantage line is the idea being mooted. I think that is achieveable but for the fact fat boy is likley to meet up with a loosie or two or even Hougaard as well. Now this is where you need a robust defender like Vermuelen rather than Spiesies.

Morne is hardly physical and thats the point - players will run at him and he wont be driving them back, they will cross the advantage line and Morne has no hope in hell of stopping Manu in full flight, he will need assistance, thereby drawing a 2 on 1 and opening up space. Morne his a girl.

As for Carter and Cooper. Carter is a far better defender, Cooper like Morne is a weak defender

Be honest snapster, there aint a flyhalf in the world that could spend an afternoon driving Manu back in the tackle.  Too much nz lard.

What we do know is that Morne can tackle as well as Carter or Cooper. So no more nonsense about Morne's tackling please. Those stats say it all.

Game set and match.

Saff, Manu drove De Villiers, as well as a couple our forwards on a few occasions last week. Morne is a good enough defender....the stats don't lie. He is not the best...but he is good enough.

Moz, I have given up on posting Morne's tackle stats. Seems this time around a few have taken note, but I can gaurentee you that there is someone somewhere, at this very moment, arguing that his defence is suspect and way below par.
